C-Class W206 [Official] Mercedes Benz C-Class (W206)

The Mercedes-Benz C-Class (W206) is the fifth generation of the Mercedes-Benz C-Class which is produced by Mercedes-Benz Group AG since 2021. It replaces the W205 C-Class which had been produced since 2014. The fifth-generation C-Class is available in sedan (W206), station wagon/estate (S206), and long-wheelbase sedan (V206) body styles. The W206 C-Class is based on the Mercedes MRA II rear-wheel drive modular platform also used by the W223 S-Class.

Marketing will never allow a 53 moniker as the halo car when the 63 badge has been around for a couple of decades now even if what you propose makes sense
I’m sure people said the same thing about a 4-cylinder “63” model too. The old think means nothing today.

The market will tolerate a C53 being the halo car of the range as long as it's not a 4 cylinder. The CLE53 is proof enough of that.

If they then don't want to burn money redoing the regulatory testing and homologation for a V8 "63" that's sad, but fine. Rather that than what they did with the P3 hybrid.

I hope AMG will go all in with modifying the inline-6 engine. They really need to over-deliver with the performance of this engine to salvage the halo of the C63 moniker. Forget making it a hybrid, just make it pure ICE, and if the customers still don't want it, they can go elsewhere in the meantime or wait for the next C63.

The problem is, if customers *do* want it, they risk fines for exceeding their CO2 fleet average. 😉

Them having a 1:1 EV for ICE power train options for every model should hopefully help with that.

But given the state of the global economy I think new car sales won't be high in general.
