a class sedan should be equivalent to a class hatch pricing, dont understand why would be more expensive. does adding a boot on the back add so much to price ? that said I under stand there will be cross over within ranges. ie a top line optioned A class might be more expensive or equivalent to base model c class. which ever way look at it though an equally optioned a class should not be same price or cost more as a similar optioned c class. if that happens something would be wrong !

In Poland the pricing has been released , you have to pay a 30% premium for this compared to the A class.

According to MB webpage this is called Edition 1 and its only available for 12 months.

According to MB Greece, the CLA will start from 28900€ for a basic CLA 180. The CLA 200 will start from 31900€, the automatic CLA 250 from 39900€ and the automatic CLA 220 CDI will start from 41900€.

A 10% premium over an A-class would appear reasonable, given that the CLA is supposed to be the more arispirational purchase and does have interior refinements beyond the A. In the same way the CLS is positioned above the other E variants.

What is crazy are the 30% premiums that have been reported.

It appears MB will be looking to make better margins on the CLA and have the A-class as the volume seller.

I believe these have been deliberately designed attractive enough to lead the class but be concurrently less attractive than the C-Class line so as not to encroach on those sales. This looks a little quirky in 2D, maybe seeing it in the flesh may make a difference. Are they any real life pix yet?

yeah its going to overlap the W204 not the 205 the W204 has just about a year left before the W205

Yeap, it's indeed expensive, but I didn't notice that it was only a little more expensive. Back in 2004 when I was shopping for a car in that price segment, the basic W203 C180 started from 38.500€, which is almost 6k up from today's model!

I would have waited for this over the A class for the added boot but the pricing looks a issue for me ill rather take the A class...

I definitely think this car is going to steal sales from the C Class Segment...

I am really looking forward to see this car in real...At first I didn't like the silver but those latest pictures its awesome and love that interior combo.

So let me ask you who think this will eat into the C class sales.

Do you not think that they understand that? And do you not think they will do something about that?
Perhaps rise the size and price of the upcoming C?

Or do you think they just picked a number and said that's what it will cost?

Trust me they have a plan in mind.

But despite their plans some people will cross shop the C and CLA.. but hey there are more extreme examples of cross shopping than this.

what makers do with these things is just provide choices. if something like the A casts the net wider thats a win for them. as to what it costs. it is very much placing it in the market. definitely a case of picking a number.

Yes I agree they have a Plan.....And I also think that this car will bring a lot of new Faces the Mercedes Group like the A class is busy doing...I know two friends in SA who I never thought would buy a MB are very excited to buy a new A class they both 27 and 32 years of age and were both thinking of Audi and VW so yeah I guess the CLA will have a similar impact..

I definitely have a strong feeling it will eat some off the C class sales especially till the new Shape is launched I also feel it will have a impact on cars like the 3 series A4.

In general I think it will have a huge impact on Mercedes gaining a new range of clients my main issue is such a premium over the A class..

I think a 10 to 15 percent premium is still fair but 30 percent is ridiculous..
