CLA [Official] Mercedes-Benz CLA Coupé (C117)

The Mercedes-Benz CLA is a series of luxury subcompact executive cars manufactured by Mercedes-Benz since 2013. The first generation was a four-door sedan based on the platform of the W176 A-Class and W246 B-Class compact cars, marketed as a four-door coupé. In 2015, Mercedes-Benz expanded the CLA family to include a station wagon configuration which it markets as a Shooting Brake. As the V177 A-Class sedan took its place as the budget-conscious sedan, the second generation got longer and wider than the W205 C-Class.
Cars like 3er sedan, C sedan, A4 sedan etc are FAMILY SEDANS (at least in Europe)... and in vast numbers bought by such clientèle ... meaning they care about rear headroom & rear space (space across the rear bench). Both are much smaller (~5cm) which is quite a lot - especially in the headroom case. I don't see much cross-shopping. It's like saying CLS would steal 7er customers. Not really ... at least not much.
I think that is something that will have to be evaluated in the flesh. Looking at the measurements I find it hard to believe that the CLA will actually have more leg room. But that is exactly what the chart says. However, I've seen enough cases where the charts did not translate to actual room in person.
So, if the CLA has the rear legroom it shows, then I could see several buyers opting for it instead of the C. Especially the younger buyers.

Just as any company is in it for the business and profit so is Daimler, hence the CLA's birth. BUT if they can keep the price realistic this saloon could spell disaster for Toyota's Corolla, KIA's Optima etc. I agree with Eni it's NOT a family sedan and will not IMO lead to cross shopping within the German Premium brand portfolio. But if you can have a Benz with this looks for a reasonable price the Jap's & kie will have trouble....as if I care:sneaky::D

Interior without hatch's exposed paint bits is just perfect!(y) I like it, the CLA, I like it.

My worthless 1 cent - I sort of like the butch front half. But it stops there, I can't stand the rear half and how everything is sucked in. The CLS profile just doesn't translate well into something this short. Reminds me of some EV vehicle (probably also why it has excellent aero like wolfgang posted somewhere).

It is what it is... An A-Klasse with a trunk. It is so far removed from the CSC concept . They are not showcasing the car here on the stand , it will be @ Geneva in March alongside an S-Klasse preview concept.

Eni, I tend to agree with Martin and Wunderkind. There will be buyers who will cross shop these models, simply because of the price point they are at. For example, my aunt currently has a 3-series. She will be in the market this year for a new car. On the shopping list is the new 3-series, a logical step, and the CLA, as a similarly priced Mercedes offering. Despite the obvious differences they both tick the boxes of what she is looking for in a vehicle. The current C is not a consideration since it is about to be replaced.

There are far too many variables in a vehicle purchase, and as Martin pointed out, we simply may not understand the cognitive process some people go through in deciding a new car based on the limitations of our own thought process and decision making set of variables, and not being able to see beyond this.

Heck, some people buy a car because it's available in pink or because it has parking sensors, the latter being my wife's only precondition to buying a particular vehicle. Apart from that she couldn't care less what it was. :p

I just watched a video on Autoguide and they said the official unveiling for the CLA is going to be at Geneva 2013 where you can get "up close and personal with the CLA". i also see a lack of chrome on the red CLA from the front grille to the rear decklid i hope they fix that, otherwise its a interesting benz

That ugly stubby black roof antenna is scheduled to be deleted with the CLA facelift, according to MB Passion. Might be concealed under a rear plastic roof panel again like in the 164 ML/GL. That may also further improve the low 0.23 cW? ;)

The center instrument cluster color display shown above will also become standard in the A-Class starting with model year 2014.

For some reason I think this little thing is going to be a big hit actually. My only worry is the C-Class sales that will be lost to the CLA, at least until the 2015 model arrives. The AMG version is going to be FIRE.

I am really liking it more and more...

The Interior looks Superb having driven a B class with similar interior I am very happy with interior somehow this one looks bit more solid and classy...

Exterior I love it in RED I don't like the black rims I would like to see it in white...

but agree with the others the black wheels does nothing for these. looks much better with the silver wheels in other pics :)

In Poland the pricing has been released , you have to pay a 30% premium for this compared to the A class.

who is interested in the price, the following was published by jesmb.de for the german market. It seems it is almost as expensive as the C class.
