CLA [Official] Mercedes-Benz CLA Coupé (C117)

The Mercedes-Benz CLA is a series of luxury subcompact executive cars manufactured by Mercedes-Benz since 2013. The first generation was a four-door sedan based on the platform of the W176 A-Class and W246 B-Class compact cars, marketed as a four-door coupé. In 2015, Mercedes-Benz expanded the CLA family to include a station wagon configuration which it markets as a Shooting Brake. As the V177 A-Class sedan took its place as the budget-conscious sedan, the second generation got longer and wider than the W205 C-Class.

Don't think they will change the outward appearance of this car too much, maybe updated light graphics, new infotainment screen inside, similar changes to the A-class.

The CLA Shooting Brake will be updated at the same time as the CLA according to MB Passion. The seat comfort package may include the seat depth adjustment from the A. :)

Anniversary at the Mercedes-Benz plant in Hungary: Mercedes-Benz Kecskemét plant produces fivehundred thousandth passenger car

Kecskemét – Production anniversary at the Mercedes-Benz plant in Kecskemét, Hungary: 500,000 vehicles have rolled off the production line since the plant opening on 29 March 2012. "The Mercedes-Benz plant Kecskemét, together with the lead plant in Rastatt, Germany, makes an important contribution to growth in our compact-car segment. In Kecskemét, with the CLA and the CLA Shooting Brake, we produce two models exclusively for the world market," said Markus Schäfer, Member of the Divisional Board of Management of Mercedes-Benz Cars, Production and Supply Chain Management. To celebrate the production anniversary, the Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán visited the plant. At the same time, he took the opportunity to personally meet the new CEO and Site Manager, Christian Wolff.

The fivehundred thousandth passenger car from Kecskemét is a cosmos black CLA, which is going to a Hungarian customer. "The production anniversary is a success achieved together by our workforce of over 4,000 people. Our qualified experts and dedicated employees produce passenger cars in top-quality. The Mercedes-Benz plant Kecskemét continues to have a very good perspective with its successful products. We are planning to further develop the location on a continuous basis. Currently, 15 million euros are invested in an innovative logistic concept", said Christian Wolff, who has been CEO and Site Manager of Mercedes-Benz Manufacturing Hungary Kft. since 1 January 2016. Wolff also expressed the company's gratitude to all its Hungarian partners in politics, administration and society, and in particular to the city of Kecskemét, for the on-going and constructive partnership.

The Kecskemét plant largely contributes to the international success of Mercedes-Benz with its production of the B-Class, the CLA and the CLA Shooting Brake. The CLA and the CLA Shooting Brake are produced exclusively in Kecskemét for all markets worldwide. The compact cars are continuing on the road to success at Mercedes-Benz: In January, 45,840 customers decided to buy an A-Class, B-Class, CLA, CLA Shooting Brake or GLA, representing a 35.9 percent increase in unit sales compared with the same month last year. One year ago, the number of compact models delivered to customers worldwide increased by 25.8 percent, to a total of 582,531 passenger cars.

I sat in a new CLA over the weekend. It felt like the quality of this car has improved, but so has the price. The CLA250 I sat in was 44K. Not entry level pricing at all. I sure hoep the facelift brings more mechanical refinement and even tighter build quality. Did they ever fix the ride quality on this car? It was a disgrace for a Mercedes-Benz product.

The CLA has been a disgrace for me from day one. If they have us the A, it would have been much better.

I think consumer report called it most disappointing car of 2015 or something like that.

I own a CLA 250. My πrice is 43K. I upgraded to the lea†her which adds stitched dash and top of all of the doors. It adds a major sense of luxury and quality to the interior. The transmission isn't the best, and the ride is a little stiff but not that bad. I had quite a few rattles in the interior of the car and still have some. That's really been the only disappointing part of the car. Even the hard plastics are of good quality and don't sound hollow like some BMWs I've been in.

Mercedes-Benz Will Also Build RWD Models in Hungary
Mercedes-Benz seems to be satisfied with doing business in Hungary, since the German company has announced a new investment in the country.

As some of you already know, Mercedes-Benz has a factory in Kecskemet, Hungary, where it builds cars based on the MFA platform. These models havea front-wheel-drive configuration, but some of them come with all-wheel-drive solutions.

The most recent investment announcement from the Stuttgart brand refers to plans to build another factory in Hungary, which could also make rear-wheel drive cars in the country.

The investment will be made in “the next few years” according to Mercedes-Benz officials, and it will add up to one billion euros. Instead of just expanding the existing facility, Daimler’s brand will build another factory in the same area as the existing plant.

The new facility will be complete with a body shop, paint shop, final assembly area, and a supplier park. The described elements are sufficient to making a complex like this independent from its existing "sibling," and Mercedes-Benz will take advantage of its existing infrastructure in Hungary to facilitate the construction, growth, and development of the new plant.

The second Mercedes-Benz factory located in Hungary will be built according to Industry 4.0 specifications, which will include a modular approach. Mercedes-Benz says it will be able to make both front-wheel drive and rear-wheel drive cars there, and we would not exclude all-wheel drive models out of the potential lineup.

The German brand has not specified what kind of models it will build in Hungary, but Mercedes-Benz’s press release reminds everyone that its current portfolio consists of 32 models, and that it wants to offer 40 models shortly.

A few of those new models could be built in the facility that will be constructed in Kecskemet, Hungary. Do not exclude hybrid, plug-in hybrid, and electric vehicles from the potential models and variations that could be built at the new facility.

  • Production of front- and rear-wheel-drive cars according to Industry 4.0 benchmark approaches.
  • Creation of around 2,500 new jobs at the site as well as additional jobs at suppliers in the region and in German plants.
  • Markus Schäfer, Member of the Divisional Board Mercedes-Benz Cars, Production and Supply Chain Management: “In the next few years, we plan to invest around one billion euros in building a new plant at our site in Kecskemét. We will establish a state-of-the-art and efficient production facility, in which different vehicle architectures will roll off the assembly line flexibly.”
  • Péter Szijjártó, Hungarian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade: “This investment decision proves that it was worthwhile for the Government to embark on an economic policy aimed at making Hungary the European centre of high value-added manufacturing activities.“
Stuttgart/Kecskemét – Mercedes-Benz plans to establish a second plant at its Hungarian site in Kecskemét for the production of front- and rear-wheel-drive cars. “In the next few years, we plan to invest around one billion euros in building a new plant at our site in Kecskemét. We will establish a state-of-the-art and efficient production facility, in which different vehicle architectures will roll off the assembly line flexibly. With this highly modern ‘flex-plant’, we will create additional capacity along with the necessary flexibility according to Industry 4.0 benchmark approaches allowing us to react quickly and future-oriented to the market needs. Our company strengthens its competitiveness,” says Markus Schäfer, Member of the Divisional Board Mercedes-Benz Cars, Production and Supply Chain Management. The Mercedes-Benz product portfolio currently consists of 32 models. In the near future, the company will offer 40 models. Additionally, it is planned to gradually electrify all Mercedes-Benz passenger car model series.

The second plant in Kecskemét will have a body shop, a paint shop, a final assembly and a supplier park. According to Industry 4.0 benchmark approaches, a convertible factory is planned. It consists of networked production systems, a fully digital process chain, the intelligent use of production data and new models of cooperation between man and machine. Thus, it will be possible to make production more flexible and efficient and to implement ergonomic improvements in the future. Preparatory actions will already start this year; the start of production is planned for the end of the decade. The investment will create around 2,500 new jobs at the site as well as additional jobs at suppliers in the region and in German plants. The final decision and concrete realisation still depends on the implementation of various conditions.

“This investment decision proves that it was worthwhile for the Government to embark on an economic policy aimed at making Hungary the European centre of high value-added manufacturing activities,” says Péter Szijjártó, Hungarian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade.

The Mercedes-Benz plant in Kecskemét has been a successful producer of compact front-wheel-drive vehicles for the world market since 2012. Since then, (as of February 2016) more than 500,000 vehicles have rolled off the assembly line. At the end of April 2016, Mercedes-Benz announced to invest around 580 million euros in the expansion of capacity and the technological upgrade of the existing facility for the production of compact cars at the site. The new generation of compact cars will also be produced in Kecskemét.

“The additional investment in the new plant with flexible production is a proof for the know-how of our highly motivated employees in Kecskemét. The site will gain additional manufacturing competence for rear-wheel-drive vehicles. A further factor speaking in favour of Kecskemét is the outstanding cooperation with national and local authorities. All in all, with the existing and the new plant, the site has excellent future prospects,” says Rainer Rueß, Head of Production Planning Mercedes-Benz Cars.
