LS [Official] Lexus LS (XF50)

GASP you gotta give them credit for sticking with a pure Japanese design ethic for the interior, that is very different from anything else in the class. Though the wood is right from the S-Class. That interior design will be a draw for some and a repellent for others. That exterior though, a shocking mess. The rear greenhouse area as people call it, looks like hearse a tacky limo. WOW. Ugly AF.

M

I don't see Japanese design. I see elements that are clearly intended to appeal to the Chinese market. Those pleated door panels and that big chunk of metal by the door handle look like parts of a dragon.

It certainly not my taste, and probably not to the taste of 90% of the guys on here, but there will be a market that it appeals to.

Perhaps Lexus has given up on the European market and is targeting a higher percentage of the Asian market.

I don't see these elements going down well in the US either.

I wouldn't be able to live with that front-end. It might work on the RX and a few of their other models, but cars in this segment are meant to look elegant. The nose of this car does not.

I don't blame Lexus if so. Businesses have to fulfill customers' wants and it is not secret that the main market for such cars, including the S class, is in Asia.

PS: IIRC, the Lexus LS was previously an american centric car, the LS together with Lexus did not really sell well in the European market

I don't mind it, I actually think it looks quite distinctive. There are also some nice interior details.

Overdesigned maybe?

Bingo.

Some claim the interior is in "Japanese design," but this is not the case. The Japanese are known for simplicity and understatement, something in which the Germans are out-Japanesing the Japanese.

The LS is nothing more than value luxury, one where over-designed themes are commonplace, meant to distract from Lexus' incapability of producing a comparably-refined, class-leading product.

Excellently put together. Unless their take on japanese design is manga and anime.

I'll rather buy a Jaguar or a Maserati and deal with all their problems than buying the clownish offerings from Lexus and Infiniti. (Even their names are trying too hard)

Generally I agree with you about the Germans ....but the interior of the S Class Maybach is a bit of a mess in places too.

with the exception of a few models, most Toyota and Lexus designs are a mess. Sometimes they'll get the silhouette and proportions right but only to ruin it with tacky atrocious design elements.
It's really a shame because Toyotas are usually well made and last quite a long time.

Black, which ought to be de riguer on a large prestige sedan, looks odd on this LS.

I am not a fan of how Lexus are using these novel materials (pleated silk paneling on the door, kiriko glass in lieu of wood in the interior) as it looks unnecessarily busy.
This door panel makes me dizzy!

I think I love it:

2018 Lexus LS350 debuts in China

The 2018 Lexus LS350 has quietly broken cover this week, debuting at the Shenzen-Hong Kong-Macao international auto show in China.

The 2018 Lexus LS350 has quietly broken cover this week, debuting at the Shenzen-Hong Kong-Macao international auto show in China.

While there’s no official press release from the Japanese marque, yet, the LS350 will be powered by the same 3.5-litre V6 petrol engine found in other Lexus 350 models, such as the smaller GS350.

Outputs of 318hp (237kW) and 380Nm are quoted by auto-sina.com.cn, and the V6 engine will be coupled as standard to a 10-speed automatic transmission.

In China, the LS350 is expected to cost around 1 million yuan ($196,530), which should make it substantially cheaper than its twin-turbocharged LS500 sibling, and should put it in direct competition with entry-level Chinese-market limousines like the Mercedes-Benz S320.

No images of the interior have been released yet, though going by the exterior shots from auto-sina.com.cn the LS350 will be available with a similar look inside and out to the LS500 and LS500h.

Lexus’s local arm has confirmed the LS350 will not be offered in Australia.

The LS500 and LS500h will come here, though, scheduled to arrive next year.

Waiting to see the reviews on this car, and some real live outside pics. That greenhouse is going to be a problem IMO.

They didn't mention this, but the rear view mirror is a screen, just like the Cadillac. The camera for it is located next to the backup camera and from experience, it's gonna be hard to keep clean. I'm sure you can turn it off though.

Must be a weird sensation looking it while driving without the headrest for the rear seats.

Genuine question, but what's the point of the rear view mirror being a screen? Also what if you had kids in the back that you want to keep an eye on? :ROFLMAO:
