^ The steering wheel and instrument cluster is HORRID.
GASP you gotta give them credit for sticking with a pure Japanese design ethic for the interior, that is very different from anything else in the class. Though the wood is right from the S-Class. That interior design will be a draw for some and a repellent for others. That exterior though, a shocking mess. The rear greenhouse area as people call it, looks like hearse a tacky limo. WOW. Ugly AF.

I don't blame Lexus if so. Businesses have to fulfill customers' wants and it is not secret that the main market for such cars, including the S class, is in Asia.I don't see Japanese design. I see elements that are clearly intended to appeal to the Chinese market. Those pleated door panels and that big chunk of metal by the door handle look likes parts of a dragon.
It certainly not my taste, and probably not to the taste of 90% of the guys on here, but there will be a market that it appeals to.
Perhaps Lexus has given up on the European market and is targeting a higher percentage of the Asian market.
I don't see these elements going down well in the US either.
Overdesigned maybe?
Bingo.
Some claim the interior is in "Japanese design," but this is not the case. The Japanese are known for simplicity and understatement, something in which the Germans are out-Japanesing the Japanese.
The LS is nothing more than value luxury, one where over-designed themes are commonplace, meant to distract from Lexus' incapability of producing a comparably-refined, class-leading product.
Generally I agree with you about the Germans ....but the interior of the S Class Maybach is a bit of a mess in places too.Bingo.

This door panel makes me dizzy!Black, which ought to be de riguer on a large prestige sedan, looks odd on this LS.

I am not a fan of how Lexus are using these novel materials (pleated silk paneling on the door, kiriko glass in lieu of wood in the interior) as it looks unnecessarily busy.
They didn't mention this, but the rear view mirror is a screen, just like the Cadillac. The camera for it is located next to the backup camera and from experience, it's gonna be hard to keep clean. I'm sure you can turn it off though.
Must be a weird sensation looking it while driving without the headrest for the rear seats.
