LS [Official] Lexus LS (XF50)

This render looks good to me.

This has got to be the most controversially styled car in this segment now, its looks divide opinion left right and center, but it is growing on me. It looks good in the videos, kind of futuristic and breaks the sombre conservative styling of the germans. This could be the surprise car in 2017 and maybe could shake up this segment if it drives very well.

IMO, it looks better than the mess we were expecting. However, that doesn't makes it any good.

It's bonkers to realize that a 28-years-old original LS has more character & stance than a new one.

That very fact should be worrying & shameful for the people behind the design of new Lexus line-up!

Not to derail (but I will): the first gen LS was ground breaking and an amazing car. It was the best and most important car Lexus ever built. Maybe that's also the problem because it was so good that nothing after it could exceed it.

Thieves also love the first generation LS.
20+ years ago, a friend's LS was stolen and never recovered.

"Character", at least visually, is about the last word I'd use to describe the original LS - It is about the least interesting or inspiring car design I can think of. It is simply big, but it manages to be big and also have no presence at all. Great car I'm sure, just incredibly boring to look at.

Very true. But then W126 and W116 S class had lot more character and beauty than W221 or even W220 and the original LS, I feel, was much closer in resemblance to the beautiful W126.

But the new LS is much better especially inside than the one that came before it. The last generation LS was just too ordinary in design inside or outside. The latest LS is a much cozy place inside and it also takes the inspiration from W221 interior IMO.

Lexus inadvertently confirms electrified LS

fifth-generation LS flagship sedan at last week’s 2017 Detroit auto show. The sole model was an LS 500 powered by a twin-turbocharged 3.5-liter V-6 delivering 415 horsepower and 442 pound-feet of torque.

The related LC has an LC 500h hybrid model, so it was odd Lexus didn’t confirm the coupe’s gasoline-electric powertrain for a potential replacement for the outgoing LS's LS 600h model. It turns out Lexus does have a new electrified LS in the works, and it's possibly due soon.

In one of the official shots of the redesigned LS’s interior, an “EV MODE” button is located on the center console, confirming that an electrified model with an electric-only mode is coming. The script of the “EV” is the same used in many Toyota hybrid vehicles, including the regular Prius, so it doesn't necessarily indicate an LS plug-in hybrid is coming. (In the regular Prius, hitting the "EV" button provides about 1 mile of electric range.)

Then again, with rivals BMW and Mercedes-Benz already offering plug-in hybrids with their respective 740e iPerformance and S550e Plug-In Hybrid models, Lexus would be smart to offer an alternative. There have been reports Lexus is preparing a hydrogen fuel cell-equipped LS, though this model isn’t expected until the end of the decade.

We should have more details soon as sales of the redesigned LS commence in late 2017. The car arrives as a 2018 model.

damm!
i like it! yeah i do. It looks sporty, wide, its the most cool car in this segment.
yeah, the s-class is still the boss, but other competitors wont have any chance...
and the cockpit is the most modern i have ever seen in an stock car...it looks like some concept, just amazing!
cant wait to see it in real

I was driving the other day and thought I saw the new Lexus LS. But it turned out to be the Infiniti M35.
Which shares some similarities don't you think?

I wish they covered the DVD player in the front and back with a retractable door, a la S-Class. Also they ought to have upped the quality of the buttons to the left of the steering wheel, i.e. the trunk release, gas filler door release, etc. And even though it makes sense to have the e-brake close to the start button, it looks odd where it is. It should be either on the console or left of the steering wheel.

I do see quite a bit of the Infiniti M35 (now Q70) in this...3-window side profile, C-pillar, flared front fender, rear fender, etc. However, even though the pic SCOTT posted has been squished horizontally, that car is definitely more rounder and organic whereas the LS seems flatter and closer to the ground.

For me I have to see this car at the dealer, away from the auto show lights and the shiny wheels. Most of all, I want to sit in it and take in the interior. I'm intrigued by this car as I was the LC500.

Too many buttons on the steering wheel !!

I still like the interior design, but they are overlooking too many low quality details (buttons, dynamic switch, cup holder), BMW and MB are using metallic coated buttons that looks nice and feels classy.
