Range Rover [Official] Gen 5 Range Rover

The Land Rover Range Rover, generally shortened to Range Rover, is a 4x4 luxury SUV produced by Land Rover, a marque and sub-brand of Jaguar Land Rover. The Range Rover line has been in production since it was launched in 1970 by British Leyland. Additional models have been launched under the Range Rover name, including the Range Rover Sport, Range Rover Evoque, and Range Rover Velar.
While BMW is probably batting off orders pouring in for the 'tasteful' XM from the new global masters in China, India, The Gulf, and Asia. cooing over its sumptuous gaudiness, tasteless displaying of money, in the UK, 'owners' of 'the best car/thing ever' - greedy, stupid flippers - are being carted off to the burns unit - readvertised, obviously still unsold:

The thicko greedy 'owner' hasn't got it through his head yet that UK's 'economy' has gone, and no one is buying 10-15 mpg around town, 3 ton mobile money incinerators anymore, in Truss's Madhouse UK.

Pistonheads is also chocka with 'owners' of Defenders' suddenly realising they need to move them on, after 30-1,500 miles, 1 day to 3 months of 'ownership', for very similar cloud cuckoo land asking prices.

I think we should have a whipround, GoFundMe for them.

Seems to be popular on the Russian Black Market.

It’s interesting that in Britains moment of turmoil. There are the factions of British public that fail to acknowledge the more serious failure of the Euro. And how do some people still not accept the Euro is created by Germans for Germany. All eyes are on Credit Suisse and Deutsche bank about to be which in terms to describe it for non financial German friends. It’s like being on the Titanic you survive the sinking only to land on an island full of Randy badgers.

So:

- the real weight, even with just a weedy driver on board, is closer to 3 tonnes than 2.5
- the 'uber-luxury', floats down the road thing is largely a function of making the springs so soft, that it launches like a see-saw, nose pointing to the sky, and
- the gear changes at full throttle are horrendous - huge power cut, no spark, huge lurching, kangarooing - see 7:12

- other than that, 'Best Car/Thing in the World Ever'

Aren’t these more rivals for the imminent Range Rover Sport SVR?
I don’t see Range Rover owners burning rubber up drag strips or indeed worrying about the weight.

So has anyone here driven this thing ?
I drove the previous model and my god it was such a horrible piece of shit to drive. I’ve never ever driven something that leans like that unless it was a pre 80s car.
totally horrible and despite the lean it’s not even particularly comfortable. Just a total piece of shit. I wonder if this is better..

the Bentley, no - direct - couldn't be more so.

Just shows that even BMW's engine and probably some engineering input can't overcome horrendous mass and size - I'll bet 2.7 tonnes unladen. That car is a whale - huge - offensively big on UK roads - wide, and poor visibility ahead for following drivers.

I am surprised, though, at its poor engineering/development. It was outsourced to Bosch Engineering, who you would think would know how to do full-throttle gear changes.

This segment of cars isn't my favorite. Had the previous gen X5 as a loaned once. Both my Ex and I found the ride too floaty and motion sickness inducing. The same was true when we used a friend's previous gen full fat RR for a week.

However I believe that newer models in this segment have fancy anti rollbars and three chamber air suspension that improves body control.

I’ll have to try it someday.

That's the most ambition flip that I have come across. On CollectingCars, final bids for the new RR is roughly £130k and that's in resale spec black on black.

camera/perspective distortion yes, but that's horrible - size, colour, behemothness, everything

The grace, rightness, Range Rover-ness of Classic Range Rover and L322 have gone. Not even a pastiche. More like a mockery.

reminds me of this:

Vibrant. In the right sunlight that colour would probably pop. Under a grey sky it’s kind of dull.
Still a magnificent looking machine though.

When all else fails, wheel out Cliveden, the subliminal association with billionaire Astors.

Black helps, and normal wheelbase - the LWB above looks like the commercial/van version - just needs a solid panel and some signwriting - 'Bloggs and sons windowcleaning:

But what's going on with that rear glazed panel? Is that standard, how they all look? Without black tinted windows it Looks like a porthole, or someone cut out a hole in a binliner.

Tragic, cheap looking , and odd.

What was wrong with a proper D pillar, instead of glazing over it, and using that awful blanking?

Speaking of vans, are you aware that the new Defender, depending on configuration, qualify as a van or people carrier? This makes it cheap to lease under a business for part business and part personal use.

It's similar to how some SUVs and pickups in the US classify as light trucks instead of passenger cars. This comes with a range of benefits from a tax and emissions point of view.

Y'know, I've never noticed that until you pointed it out. Thanks!
There's a first...
