Really not my favorite category of automobile...but...

I think that FoMoCo designers have done a commendable job on the 2020 Explorer.

Sure, it has a "JLR thing" going on. But that is not a bad thing.

The front wheels are still very close to the front doors like on a FWD vehicle.

I think the cladding part over the front fender gives an impression that the front wheels are closer to the front firewall than they actually are.

Moreover, I've noticed that in almost every SUV (even the ones with a RWD platform) the front wheel to the firewall distance is closer than the standard ratio found in normal sedan cars.

Here are some examples of what I can remember:

I have no idea why the arrangement is as such, but it could be due to having an AWD system implemented within, though this doesn't explain why normal cars still have a farther placement for the front tires.
