6 Series (F12) [Official] BMW 6er Coupe (F13)

The third generation of the BMW 6 Series consists of the F12 (two-door convertible version), F13 (two-door coupé version), and F06 (four-door "Gran Coupé" version) executive-sized grand tourers. The F12/F13/F06 generation is often collectively referred to as the F12. Production: March 2011 – September 2018.
Speaking of CL 65 AMG competitor and V-12 engines:

BMW has a rather competent 6.0 544HP V-12 Biturbo of their own. I suspect that this powerplant would easily fit under the hood of the new 6 series. Such a car would be less martialistic and more hyper-luxury oriented than the upcoming M6. Or let Alpina work its' magic on the V-12 and introduce a B6-12 BiTurbo with over 600 HP. That'd be a nice CL65 AMG competitor, methinks.

Thats what I'm saying. A CL500 has nothing that stands out from the 6er other than the badge. 650i is a better deal than a CL500, no doubt.

What nonsense. A 6-Series, as nice as it isn't even on the same level as the CL550. A better deal? None of these cars are "deals".

To say the CL550 is nothing but a badge is plum ridiculous.

All true AND correcting my mistake - I do not see the S-coupe as a direct competitors at all - The 6er an CL cater for TOTALLY different tastes IMO;) more Bentley vs CL and 6er vs SL in my books, well maybe I am unique LOL.
:t-cheers:

Let's leave any BMW vs. Mercedes Benz debate for the Internal Combustion section shall we? We can debate the 6er's looks, identify competitors and discuss these in a mature fashion but let's leave the my-car-is-better-than-your-car stuff out of here please.

Personally I think of it like this:

BMW's Marketers: "The new 6er Coupe is big enough and good enough to compete with the CL Class."
Mercedes' Marketers: "Our CL Class doesn't have a direct rival from BMW."

Whether they are or not is purely down to a matter of opinion - it would be a never-ending debate.

So I am not 'that' unique:D
And I fully agree:t-cheers:

Now enough before Martin becomes angry with our off topic chat ;)

Hey STFUMAN! ;)

Actually it's not off-topic - debating where the 6er fits into the market and who its competitors is definitely not off-topic. It's when we get into "Merc pwns BMW in the luxury limo coupe stakes" and "BMW makes the Merc look like a horse's behind" [as is so often the case in an official model release thread] that I feel such conversation should be moved to Internal Combustion.

I do like you V8 overlap thing though. Nice observation.

Compare to a 650i its nothing special that stands out. I know CL is based on S-class thats why MB fans thing its more special while in the truth its not. So in the eyes of yours it might be ridicolous but not in mine.

While in truth? What truth is that? Due tell? Truth of the matter is that no Mercedes is special in your eyes so what does it matter? A 6-Series doesn't compete with the CL nor is it in its class.

There are many nice Mercedes out there I like. Your dark senses are clouding your seeing.

Indeed, these cars are all over-priced when you really get down to it. The entry price for a 6'er is ridiculous on its own IMO.

Between 6'er and CL, I can't say which I think is nicer, until I see the 6'er in person, and until I see them together. However, the CL will always hold supremacy over it. That said, at this point in time, I'd prefer the current 6 to the previous CL (two cars that I never fully loved, though I partially love the prev CL, and rarely kinda like the current 6'er), so I wonder how this gen will play out. If someone were offering them both to me, I'd want the CL without question. If I were spending my own money, I might go 6'er, unless we're talking AMG CL.... And I gotta be a lot richer than I am now to pull that off. :D

Alpina can make the B6, and that's it as far as I am concerned.

HOWEVER, I would truly love to see a BMW 660i with V12 TT. That would really make the 6er F13 the new 850i...

A 6-Series doesn't compete with the CL nor is it in its class.

M

Huh? A 650i and CL 500 very much compete.
A 640i and CL65 AMG don't, no.

Lol...First BMW folks want the 6 to compare to the SL. Then they want it to compare to the CL.

Lord have mercy..I say compare it to the E-class coupe or CLS! :D

Or we can say both are nice luxury coupes and leave it at that!

And you're typical haterism is clouding yours if you think a CL is nothing but a badge. In fact you're blind.

You guys disappoint me.

The CL is a barge. It sports the largest wheelbase of any production coupe on earth, save the Phantom Drophead - and that's by a slim margin.

The 6er competes and compares directly with the Jaguar XK. It only compares perceptually with the CL because the 6er is the highest-value coupe offered in their range.

It's hard to imagine BMW ever developing a CL-like product. I'll admit that they could be cross-shopped because they could both function as impractical 2nd or 3rd cars for families with very high HHI but product-wise they're on two completely different levels.

It is funny you say this because I found myself making the same argument for the RS5 and the M3, considering they do not technically compete.

It is interesting to see in the automotive industry how people will compare cars that shouldn't be compared only because, like you said, in each of the brand's respective sections, it is the only coupe they make or the most expensive coupe they make, etc.
