6 Series (F12) [Official] BMW 6er Coupe (F13)

The third generation of the BMW 6 Series consists of the F12 (two-door convertible version), F13 (two-door coupé version), and F06 (four-door "Gran Coupé" version) executive-sized grand tourers. The F12/F13/F06 generation is often collectively referred to as the F12. Production: March 2011 – September 2018.
I don't know about the coupe ... but the new 6er cabrio is definitely DESIGNED FOR DRIVING. ;):)

This is slightly better, for two reasons:

  1. Because it communicates crearly that the car is made for driving both via text and via the respective driving scenes
  2. With focusing on the driver who happens to be a successful businessman, rather than a 30 year old rich guy.

Still, the add is not successful in my book, because it's not bold or distinctive one. I tried to describe it 5' after I saw the video, and I couldn't remember what was in the video.

On the other hand, I saw one Renault ad a few weeks ago, and I still have it in my mind. Or VW's Super Bowl add. I am still laughing with the little Darth Vader! This is a successful advertisment, one the remains in your mind.

^^^ this is the ad they show non stop on national television over here...

The ad is so-so, the car is incredible.

This ad shows non stop on national television in Holland. What does this mean? That BMW Netherlands has a lot of money to spend.

The ad fails to impress. It's not distinctive. Sure, the car looks great, but the ad fails to "stay in your mind" as other car related adverts can do. Remember the first 1er hatch ad? The one that the Joy campain debuted? That ended with the "Prinzip Freude" text and with Thom's "Principle of Joy" music playing? Now, that was a strong advertisment! I remember seeing it on TV once, and I still remember this add. It bloody made me go take a look at the 1er, when I was in no position to buy a new car. But the add made me want one!

Still, I want to see an advertisment that makes a big impact in my mind. That will stay in it and won't make me change channel.

I quite liked it, suppose it works better on the big screen than some small Youtube vid...

:D

You mentioned the words "agile car". Where is it seen? In those driving shots that completely fail to hide the volume of the car? It just looks so big, that it can't be agile. It may be in real life, but this is not communicated via the ad.

Have you guys actually "seen" the car in the metal???
It´s not that big,,,,,,at least I couldnt fit in the back seat!!! (I´m only 1.7m high)

When is the 6er coming with xDrive?

550i xDrive is faster than a 650i (0-100 km/h), btw :usa7uh: (4.8 vs 4.9 seconds)

550i takes 5 secs, so maybe we should expect the 650i xDrive to take 4.7?.

Can someone please explain to me how this cars design was inspired by water?

As usual with most statements given by designers, sounds like something the marketing department has cooked up.

Looks like it wasn't just empty words from marketing department. :usa7uh:

But that's yet another marketing video. Any car company can take a sleek coupe and blast water across its surface and say inspired by water!

I've seen examples of organic design where there is clear inspiration taken from various organic elements, but this to me looks like marketing spiel. I don't see how this design draws inspiration from water, it's properties and the way it behaves. Mazda's design language appears to be much more convincing in the elements it draws from water and water flows.

I'm not saying the 6 is not a good looking car. It's a damn fine looking automobile. I'm just curious as to how exactly it has been inspired by water, aside from these marketing videos. Have there been any statements by the designers where they offer detailed explanations?

According to Car Design News:

The surface treatment of the exterior was inspired by the natural movement of waves generated around an object in flowing water.

But if you don't believe them, take it from the guy who designed the car (Nader Faghihzadeh) ;):

"I found inspiration in geometry water – that was my personal inspiration, because water has a certain stream, and you bring something destructive, creating geometry."

...

"My inspiration was streams as a philosophy. If you think about, if you visualize the streams and aerodynamics of streams and water, or any fluent element, then this moment of the stream, photographed, was my inspiration, because I wanted a beauty which was coming from your eye, creates sympathy for certain things that are natural.
This geometry offers something elegant and timeless. So imagine a shark coming out of the water and opening a wave, and you keep this moment, you photograph this moment, and you try to integrate it in a very elegant, luxurious coupe. That means glossiness on water and fluent elements in general – you can interpret it quite well in exterior surfaces because they are also glossy. And if you see the car in movement, then you will understand why. There is a certain life into this thing and the character gets even stronger.

Because the exterior design is always the reflection of the environment, and how you can work on the surfaces – this is the art of exterior design."

Granted I haven't seen the exterior of any other car breaking through water from a sky view, it's obvious that the car resembles a "boat plowing through water" from that very angle.

Did that same guy design the F10 as well btw? Interesting to me that he's Iranian. If you live in SoCal, you'll notice that Persians have held the forte down for BMW for generations, makes sense that they'd employ one now to design their cars! :D

This should be the 6er's new spokesman.

Thanks! Seems a lot easier to get knowledge of who directly designed what from BMW as opposed to Mercedes.
