I mean **** me sideways..
This is one ugly car..
I saw one today in the metall..530d black.. good colour well optioned..
But it looked like SHAIT..
I mean ppl talk crap about the R class.. i mean the rear of the GT is as bad as the front of the R..
And the whole stance of the car is like a BUTT..

Artist, we get it.. you don't like bit butts. ;)

But there are more than enough Sir Mix-a-lot fans out there who love big butts. :D

That white 5er GT posted above looks freakin' awesome..much more aggressive face than the 5er sedan!

Yeah, if you say 'I don't like it' 1000 times, you're bound to actually believe it at one point, when you finally see it irl. People with no hate towards this car will not react that way for the most, I'm sure. The car looks very modern and high end. And special.

I'll predict it right now. This car will be a major fail. Just not attractive, "unique" yes, but unique doesn't = nice when it comes to cars much of the time, at least not this time IMO. :D

Just like a stupid R-Class which M-B justifiably got embarrassed by. This car does look much better than that though.

Its really not that bad looking in person IMO. The interior is near 7-Series level front and rear, its the price that may really be its undoing in the U.S. market.

Actually yeah I'll wait 'till I see it IRL to make final judgement. But usually I can tell if I'll dig it in pics.

That's exactly what I thought in regards to the sales prospects of the X6 in the U.S. market...who would pay more for a car that offers less than it's sibling the X5. But looking at the sales numbers (even in the current downturn) the X6 seems to be doing good. Of course the U.S. market is a very SUV/4WD happy market, so that may have helped the X6...but unfortunately BMW's not fooling anyone with the raised ride height of the 5er GT over a standard sedan. Maybe the fact that it's part of the 5-Series family may be its saviour.

:t-hands:

Yeah, but the GT costs quite a bit more than a base X6 as well. ;)

Actually X6 sales are doing a bit worse than expected in US market, and much much better than planned in other markets.

:usa7uh:

In total the X6 (worldwide) sales are in pre-crisis planned numbers. Meaning: the car is selling extremely well in this time - since all the sales plans for other models are not reached due to recession.

Another car that's selling better than expected is Z4. Also in pre-crisis planned numbers. While 7er sells OK - within the crisis-adjusted plans.

No data for X1 & 5er GT yet.

Thanks for the info Eni.

Does BMW expect to sell about as many 5er GTs as they do X6s (in the US..and also Worldwide), or is the 5er GT even more of a niche alternative than the X6?

Looking at the current BMW line-up of vehicles, from a product positioning perspective, the 5er GT is more of a SWB 7er Coupe. The X5 was created to offer an SUV alternative to the 5er sedan/touring. Then the X6 was created to offer an alternative to the X5 and 5er....now the 5er GT is created to offer an alternative to the X5, 5er and X6... so it's at the top of the 5-series totem pole, and getting close to the 7-series family.

Eni, has there been any reason/s put forward for the lower-than-expected X6 sales in the U.S. market. I know the economy over here is taking longer to bounce back than the rest of the world, but anything else?

And finally... any plans to showcase a new vehicle next February just before the start of the 33rd America's Cup since BMW Oracle is taking center stage against Alinghi? Maybe promote 'Efficient Dynamics' some more ?

When I see it in the streets, the looks actually makes sense. It is not sporty in any way, but it has its very own design. Comparing the GT with the R-class is just so wrong.

The price here is crazy.

According to the actual issue of "Autozeitung" xDrive will be available for all 5er GT-models in the end of 2010.
Regards

Andreas

^ it does a whole lot more than 'just make sense', but making sense it indeed does. Unlike the R-class, which looks like a high end Vito, or Renault Espace.

When you look back at the R-Klasse it was not the product that failed it was the marketing. They marketed the R-klasse as it was a Chrysler mini-van. I expect with the imminent facelift expect something 5er GT ish uplifting and panoramic, it's working for the GT. I have met people who want to drive the car on the basis of that launch film.
