5 Series (F10/F11/F07/F18) [Official] BMW 5 Series Gran Turismo (F07)

The BMW F10/F11/F07/F18 is the sixth generation of the BMW 5 Series, manufactured for model years 2010–2017. The body styles of the range are: 4-door sedan/saloon (F10), 5-door estate/wagon (F11, marketed as "Touring"), 5-door fastback (F07, marketed as "Gran Turismo"), and 4-door long wheelbase sedan (F18, sold only in China and the Middle East).
As officially the last member here on GCF have I now had a chance to get up close with the 5GT. My impressions are as follows.

The car is huge.

Then I got a bit closer and the car is still huge :D It looks a fair bit bigger/heavier than the 7-series. The frameless doors are very cool and it is on the inside that the car really shines (and then I'm not talking about the plastic around the lower parts of the seats). The front seats are nice and the cabin is really cosy and comfy but it is in the rear I would like to travel. Very spacious but not rock solid.

The interior is what makes this car make sense. This is a transportation vehicle, transportation of two people. The interior is of great quality, 99% of it anyway. The seats are perfect for my size and everything is where it should be. It is pricy but I guess most of these will have corporate first owners (the 530dGT on display was €80k).

I think I like the car, for what it is, but is should be in silver to show the lines and to make it look a bit smaller.

I don't know if it's just me, but the angled part of the dash where the interior trim is located makes this car look more van-esque inside. I can't say that I liked this part.

Best regards,
south

And when I said it is an R-Class competitor people thought I was nuts. It's huge as hell but sleeker than your average people carrier.

I thaugt so too when I first saw it, but the way the GT is executed is very different from the way the R-class is done. If the GT was to be as practical and seat as many people as the R-class, it would have needed to be 8 meters long and 2,5 meters wide.

On the M side of the equation, Autocar says that the gasoline V8-powered 550i will remain the pinnacle of the range, as BMW has "ruled out" a M-Technik variant. Given that BMW has recently seen fit to move M beyond traditional cars (see: X5 and X6) and that these higher performance models often have thicker margins attached, this strikes us as somewhat curious decision – especially as the 5GT figures to be the most dynamically promising of the bunch.

:jpshakehe I wanted an 5GT M so bad too.....

Was that a statement from the "Offroaders Digest"? Nothing curious at all about not making a Motorsport version of a glorified taxi.

Well I actually like the 5GT. I think the design and usefulness are very impressive. An M versions would have been thrilling..Of course it wouldn't be a track car, but I believe it would have been useful considering I was strongly considering purchasing one in 2-3 years.

That's exactly the type of vids i want. Seeing the other propostions is priceless.

Yeah it looks weak and old gen car, on the other hand the silver car, bare the grill had potential, and if you look closely, the current one that won the comptetion had much better initial tail lights.

But the concept at 1.26 in the video looks much better than the production version.

Yes, it looks better but you can see the rear head room & boot space are compromised. This design would go well with eg. 5er coupe-sedan sportback - with same sitting position as in the sedan. While definitely not with the elevated sitting position like it was idea for the GT - since rear space & boot space would be just too compromised.

Btw, I like the idea of the new (old?) BMW kidney grille ... It looks quite radical but still utterly BMW - in contrast to upturned 3D kidneys.
