Golf [Official] 2014 Volkswagen GTI Revealed

Depreciation is also something to consider when looking at the French brands, at least here.

And in the vid you posted the Gti rides in Paris:D
I have no factual support yet I guess that goes for all French cars in most countries (*SA definitely) is poor residuals.

Edit: call me old school but the I WANT factor of GTi vs A45 AMG or any other more established competitoe is 98% stronger in my gut for the GTi;) Damn near perfect car for everyone...the People's car(y)

^Its odd but where as the desire to own a GTI is higher than all of its competitors the same cant be said for the Golf R. I reckon the history surrounding GTI has a lot to do with its appeal, that and the fact its perfect.

I read an article about upcoming Golf R in Autocar. 300 hp, AWD and a slightly cheaper price than current R.

+1, same goes for my own personal taste and preference regarding the GTi vs R. IMO the Golf R (maybe lacking the 'red stripe' and 'blandness' in it's glossy black grille feels cold. Oh and the wheels of the R is also not to my taste.

Since when does the GTi mk7 have a manual gearbox?

Traditional handbrake makes more sense when combined with a manual gearbox but if the car happens to have an auto the give me an electronic handbrake every time.

It looks ok. I didn't get the same wow effect as when I saw the MkVI GTI. I am just not impressed.

I do agree that it's a great package, but it doesn't cut it for me anymore. I don't like the feeling of the interior, now that it got those hideous front quarterpanels. I just don't feel right when I sit in it, which I did (in a normal Golf, though) last week. It feels as if you are in a much bigger car, which is inconsistent with what I have in mind for the "Golf experience".

Then there's the lack of a traditional handbrake. I know it sounds obsurd for most, but I find it absolutely neccessary, both as a safety stopping device, that doesn't rely on the car's electronics, and as a driving tool.
Really? I drove a MK7 GTI and it had a normal handbrake. Where do you live? Maybe they are different according to market. I don't like those e-brakes either.

Finally! My new affordable dreamcar!
I can't wait to get my hands on one of those...
Looks perfect ^^ IMO

Btw i think 220 hp is a OK figure for such a car.
With the right setup it will become an absolute dream :)
Power is just fine, I drove it and it pushes really hard, even with 4 people. You would like it I'm sure, power delivery is very constant and handles fine.
