Polo [Official] 2014 Volkswagen Polo Facelift

VW USA needs to fix their CUV/SUV lineup if they want to sell 800k units in the USA. They won't get to 800k units by bringing over the new Golf or even introducing the Polo here. They need to (and I believe they are) introduce a new Tiguan that truly competes on size and price. They need a car that stands out from a very crowded CUV market. The Toureg needs to go, IMO. It's not positioned properly for VWs US image. As others have said, it's a good car but I just don't think that American buyers look at VW in the same vein as MB/BMW/Lexus, etc. They need a CUV/SUV lineup that mirrors that of Mazda or Ford. If they can get the positioning right like they've done for the Jetta and the Passat I think they can probably reach their goal but 4 years isn't a long way off. They need the new CUV/SUVs on the road very soon.

2014 Volkswagen Polo GTI 3dr manual review

Should I buy one?
If you want the best-handling small hot hatch on the market, then no. The Ford Fiesta ST remains that car and will offer it to you for a lower price, with an even more exciting power delivery and a remarkable chassis.

The Polo is now back in contention in this class, and paying the extra for the VW does get you a more comfortable ride, a higher-quality cabin and better resale values than the Fiesta, but handling and driver involvement come first, and while the Polo is undoubtedly capable, it remains an also-ran in this class.

There's no such thing as bad publicity. VW should be loving the exposure regardless of how uncondonable the individual's actions may have been.

8 months in jail sounds a little harsh, btw. Seriously, not just a fine?

You're certainly not the only one to say the sentence is too harsh (I've seen this video on a few other forums), but I think it's deserved. The c**ky little s**t deserves everything he gets. Unfortunately his attitude seems all to familiar in Britain right now. Self-centred, couldn't give a toss about authority. They think they can do anything they want and will just get a slap on the wrist. At the very least, why would you even put your girlfriend through that?

8 months in jail for that stupid, self-absorbed little twerp is spot on. Just enough time to get banged up for recklessly endangering the lives of real racers and innocent passengers.

If there's one place people know how to drive and avoid others it's on a track with professionals, and the VW driver was not out there to hit others or anything like that. It was completely harmless from what I saw.

Anyways.....this will help prevent others from doing it, I guess

I won't comment on the punishment that entering a track while a race takes place should deserve, but if your girlfriend (or any other person) is sitting next to you screaming like that and asking you to stop, you just f@[HASHTAG]#king[/HASHTAG] stop.

This is worse than disturbing the race, in my book.

For the next Polo:

BERLIN (Reuters) -- Volkswagen will probably stop making three-door versions of the Polo hatchback, as Europe's largest carmaker accelerates cost cutting at its core division, company sources said.

The VW brand will launch an overhauled Polo in 2017 and may discontinue the subcompact variant as demand for three-door hatchbacks is falling, two sources familiar with the matter told Reuters on Friday, adding that the next-generation Polo would only come with five doors.

The Polo, which VW has been building for four decades, was Europe's No. 4-selling vehicle last year, only trailing the VW Golf, Ford Fiesta and Renault Clio, according to data from JATO Dynamics.

With the launch of the new-generation Clio in late 2012, Renault decided to discontinue the three-door variant and only offer the car with five doors.

Wolfsburg-based VW is shrinking the number of parts and dropping unprofitable models such as the Eos hardtop convertible as it aims to boost cost savings at the VW brand, its biggest division by sales and deliveries, to 5 billion euros ($5.5 billion) a year by 2017.

To help profits, VW is also increasingly relying on the gradual adoption of its MQB modular platform for building a wide range of cars. The Polo, which received its mid-term facelift in 2014, is not yet based on MQB.

"We are on track with our efficiency program," VW CEO Martin Winterkorn said this week at the Geneva auto show.

A VW spokesman said "there are no decisions yet" on future lineups of the Polo and Beetle models.

Germany's Spiegel magazine reported plans to cease three-door Polos earlier on Friday, saying this would save VW 200 million euros.

The Beetle, last overhauled in 2011, could also be discontinued, Spiegel said, without citing the source of the information.

VW works council chief Bern Osterloh in January called on management to tackle the costly proliferation of models and parts at the VW brand, saying there was potential to cut costs by "substantially more" than the planned 5 billion euros.
