The Porsche 991 is the seventh generation of the Porsche 911 sports car, produced from September 2011 to December 2019. It was unveiled at the 2011 Frankfurt Motor Show on 15 September as the replacement for the 997.

Look at the must elusive car in the world (to me lol) behind it, the Bentley Brooklands. Seeing a Porsche scrapped like that is just so hard to accept.

I was at a track day this past summer. And I actually witnessed a young driver of a 991 GT3 go off the track, hit the wall hard which caused significant (much worse than the picture above) damage to the car. It's tough to see. The driver and his passenger were fine, but the young driver was absolutely freaking out afterwards......I'm sure it's traumatic mentally, if not physically.

When you drive on a track, there are risks out of your control (unexpected tire blow out, mechanical failure, or other cars crashing into you). But most of the time, crashes occur because of driver error and/or inexperience. Always drive within your and your car's limits.....and don't try to be a hero.

Nonetheless, it can be very enjoyable despite the risks. The track remains the only place to enjoy/exploit the capabilities of modern cars. For me, I have enjoyed all my cars on track (except my wife's previous A4 wagon and her current X3). The 991 GT3's performance and capabilities are truly amazing and was a significant upgrade in terms of laptimes and enjoyment for me, which is exactly what I was looking for.

991.2 GT3 uncovered

pied time and time again with more or less camouflage hiding the goodies, the facelifted 911 GT3 has been uncovered of its secrets. As you can see in these spy photos, Porsche didn’t even bother to camouflage the 991.2 GT3 during its final development stage. And boy, does its driver look like he's really committed.

Put side by side to the Porsche 3D Kleurplaat car leaked via Porsche Netherlands, this prototype here looks like it's the real deal. Slated to debut for the 2017 model year, the Porsche 911 GT3 facelift reveals revised air intakes, LED daytime running lights incorporated into the front bumper, as well as 991.2-spec taillights.

At the rear end, the bumper resembles that of the pre-facelift 911 GT3. On closer inspection, the vertical slits in the rear bumper appear to be more pronounced than before. Heavily inspired by the 911 GT3 Cup racecar for 2017, the facelifted 911 GT3 will bring forth something for the purists, i.e. a 6-speed manual transmission.

That would be a first in the 911 GT3 since the 997-gen production run ended five years ago. Expected to mirror the 6-speeder in the 911 R, the stick shift in the 911 GT3 facelift sends power to the rear axle in true Porsche fashion. As for what lies under the hood, the 911 GT3 won’t go turbo like regular 911s did with the 911.2 facelift. It remains to be seen if the 3.8-liter boxer will soldier on with more power or if the 911 R’s 4.0-liter powerplant will find its way into the 911.2 GT3.

Whatever is hiding under that fixed rear wing, it’s a sure bet to expect a naturally aspirated unit that will definitely churn out more than 476 PS (350 kW) at full song. These said, only time will tell how the manual will stack up to the current model’s PDK and 3.5-second sprint to 100 km/h (62 mph).

Beyond the incoming 991.2 GT3, the 991.2 GT2 is also worth waiting for
