There is something about the front of this car that is just jarring and in your face. The old one wasn't as obnoxious.

It's the big one-piece grille. Looks like that Asian brand that ripped the new Mini design to begin with.. Forgot the name of that car..

It's that awful jutting chin-vent in the lower valance that's the main culprit. They've overemphasised a styling feature of the previous generation that've ought to have been toned down rather.
 
From Concept to reality.

The first prototypes of the MINI Cooper S JCW have been caught testing in the Arctic circle.
The market launch is early 2015.

This may seem pointless but I liked the 4 lug wheels of the R56 better because wheel designs were made accordingly so they were 4 spoke, 8 spoke and things like that. Different from the 5 spoke wheels crowd
 
It's the first genuine MINI by BMW ever. So, not a surprise it feels & drives like a true mini BMW. Although the maturity kills a bit of previous MINI fun
 
Well it has to be, imagine what will happen if the new car is inferior to the old one.
Christ you're dour, do you not think he meant in relation to the time period it was launched in and contemporary competitors? Is the F10 5 Series better than the E39, in your opinion?

Top Gear: Re. the Cooper "And, maybe because of the extra nose weight, it just doesn't feel so well-wired as you turn into a sharp corner. The suspension is firmer, but on the roads where I tried it, that just meant it was biffed about more - there was no dividend in agility. This despite the fact this car was specced with the optional adaptive dampers. There's slightly more understeer and less steering feel too. So I'm not sure the S is extra cash well spent, unless you need to do a lot of main-road overtaking. "
 
Well, at least it was cool at some point in its lifecycle.

Ah but this will be the hot and spicy MINI - JCW gets a new philosophy it is going to be looked at as the MINI equivalent to BMW M. So there is a lot of extensive chassis work etc ongoing.
But there is still scope for an even spicer MINI in its lifecycle, MINI are testing a car equipped with a Carbon bonnet.
 
The significant thing about these reviews is that if the MINI is so good? How will they perceive the BMW 2er Active Tourer. Given that they share the same architecture although with different driving characteristics.

It most probably will be the best driver's car in the MPV segment so it should be all good.

PS: What engines will be offered for the Tourer? Can we expect a 4pot with over 200HP?
 
about the engine:
bimmertoday talks about a 3-cylinder engine with 1233 cm³.
but what about the 500 ccm - strategy of bmw?

Edit: Did you Heard the 3 cylinder engine? I read somewhere the base Cooper will come with the new BMW 1.5 3 cyl, and it sounds close to a 3.0 in line six
