Cooper [Official] 2014 MINI Cooper Mk3

Mini Cooper (2001–present), also called: Mini John Cooper Works (2008–2024), Mini Hatch (2001–2024), Mini Hardtop (2001–2024), Mini One (2001–2022).
I still find it to be a very iterative update. I guess MINI are following in the 911's footsteps.

+ I'm glad the giant tachometer is gone
+ finally BMW powertrains.

- Front square shaped air intakes?
- Something about the front looks awkwardly bulbous.

Sheesh, no love for the excellent, award-winning, innovative 1.6 litre Prince engines? Poor Frenchies, they get a bad rap on this forum! :)

Anyhow, in the greater scheme of things - pure-bred BMW engines are a better thing in MINI. That new 1.5 litre three-pot turbo changes the game completely for the std Cooper.

I am not liking the styling, the exaggerated features makes the car look more toy like than before.

Really? The reason why I like this Mini is precisely because it looks fuller and less like a toy.

Yeah, I am not a fan of the over sized grill and the thick chrome ring around the headlights, and the actual headlights are surrounded by another thick LED ring. Maybe this will grow on me over time.

I can't stand the Abarth-pods. Why did they have to do that? The plain Cooper has the best exterior styling, no doubt.

YES! Here!

*raises hand*

Amazing little gem. Particularly with the JCW pack on the Cooper S.

This is going to have all the modern assistant systems, I wonder why VW is intent on letting the Beetle die a slow death.

Not going to discuss that awful VW, but the new Mini is indeed high tech! It even gets full LED headlights optionally. And those lovely LED daytime running lights are standard on all models.
Not to mention pretty much the same infotainment system as found in high end Bimmers, including iDrive Touch.

Far better interior but the external styling and proportions are most certainly not an improvement. The exterior brings nothing new to the MINI image - there's no surprise and delight anywhere to be seen; styling details abound merely for the sake of being there in a same same but different vein. Pity about the ever-burgeoning overhangs - the front one isn't helped by some heavy-handed lower valance detailing that juts out further than necessary. A better product? Probably. A better MINI? I don't think so.

1. I think I might be in part responsible for that. I have owned one of these "fantastic" engines. They are really nice when they work, no doubt, but they are flawed. As I have said so many times, the timing chain tensioner, which is a hydraulic item, simply can't seem to build pressure at startup, which leads to rattle and then slack in the tensioner. This is a design flaw and it has, to my knowledge, not been corrected for this engine.

2. New engines is the one thing that would lure me into MINI ownership again. Shame on the looks then.

I wonder if the oversized rear lights are an attempt to make the car look smaller ??

I wonder why they changed the side of the fuel cap?

...and the R56 is still a much better design. By far. It's not even funny how much better the exterior design is of the R56 compared to the F56.

In other news, MINI Sweden has started making house calls."Hi, Bruce!"

It looks the same to me. VW did a great job, building the new Beetle with huge difference in new body style. Mini just couldn't pull it out right. :cautious:

I've seen the new mini and it look great ... No visual changes à little beat bigger but not too much

MINI

Mini (stylized as MINI) is a British automotive brand founded in 1969, owned by German BMW since 2000, and used by them for a range of small cars assembled in the United Kingdom, Austria, and the Netherlands. The word Mini has been used in car model names since 1959, and in 1969 it became a brand in its own right when the name "Mini" replaced the separate "Austin Mini" and "Morris Mini" car model names.
