FF [Official] 2011 Ferrari FF

The Ferrari FF is a grand touring car that was produced by Ferrari. Predecessor: Ferrari 612 Scaglietti. Successor: Ferrari GTC4Lusso. Production: 2011-2016.
Lamborghini Espada is a great example of the genre, Monster, and I recall seeing it on the road in my childhood. It's gorgeous.

Thanks Sunny for your insightful contribution. Yes, that's exactly what the shooting brake theme is all about - exclusive coachwork for the wealthy. The shooting brake's popularity waned after the 70's with the advent of the bad-taste 80's.

Ferrari came in for huge flak with the unendearing and undramatic looks of the otherwise great to drive Scaglietti. The biggest criticism of the car was that for a Ferrari it looked bland. To compound matters, the fact that its predecessor, the 456 GT, was so exceptionally pretty meant that the 612 Scaglietti would end up as a Ferrari that failed to inspire.

Based on the love-it-or-loathe-it reaction in this thread, I think that the FF is going to be a standout sensation for Ferrari.

I am trying to envisage how the FF would look in the more traditional 2+2 GT coupe guise. Somewhat elongated rear overhang with a rakish semi-notchbacked roofline. Summoning competent photoshoppers !

I love how this car is causing some to be confused, astonished, flummoxed... Ferrari is creating automotive theatre. It's so awesome how there was no overwrought teaser campaign slowly revealing this car to the world - which they would have been in their right to do. Instead... pow they just drop the car out of the sky, and we're awed or perplexed by the thing... sorta like the monolith from 2001.

Ferrari is really is playing on another level here. Presumably this is the precursor to even stranger things, like a sedan or SUV - I, for one, love how they're going about their business.

looking at some of the numbers, the Espada is a monsterous 20 cm shorter than this new stationwagon.

as for the 456, its one of the most boring looking cars ive ever seen... far more bland than the 612. its time ferrari set their bar much higher in terms of design rather than looking at their own past creations and thinking "if we do better than that, it will be good enough"

Damn......I absolutely love Shooting Brakes, and this Ferrari is no exception.
Just fantastic looking inside out.

I know I sound like a blind BMW fanboy all the time, but I really wish/want to see the BMW 6er Shooting Brake version, that is rumored to be shown as a concept at some car show later this year!

One question though, is this car going to replace the 612?????

I'm quite happy with the profile and the rear (even though the Z3 coupe was the first thing to come to my mind as well), but the I'm worried about the front.

It has a "evil-but-slightly-dumb cartoon robot" vibe going on, and I don't think I like that. :eusa_thin

LOL!! Perfect description of the front. The thing looks downright GOOFY, and fit for a cheap Mazda-esque car. It lacks that serious and exclusive aura of a true premium cars front, let alone a Ferrari.

LOL!!

Dumb cartoon robot? Venom finds you remark disrespectful.

Ahh I see you have dusted off your velvet spin-doctor suit and wore it while typing that reply above :D Let's call my spare Nokia handset a long range telecommunication apparatus instead of a dumb phone.

The terms shooting brake is ambiguous as the British "summer" weather. If the FF is a shooting brake then so is a handful of hatchbacks on the market like the Scirocco.

Oh man, this Threads got jokes! :D

I think it's terrible. I HATE Hatchbacks (yes, they're always going to be Hatchbacks to me). I think Hatchbacks lack anything sexual, and they always seem to be designed for those who have quirky automotive tastes that take a backseat to their showing off the kind of lifestyle that they live (utilitarian, outdoorsman, etc.). I think they also look plebeian and lower-priced, I could never imagine spending Ferrari coin on one, nor do I think it speaks well for the Ferrari brand or image.

It also looks to be an evolution of the BMW Z-Coupes.

Maybe my prejudices toward Hatchbacks, "Shooting Brakes", Wagons, etc. are prevalent in my thinking here, but I just don't think it's a good looking ride.

The FF is longer but their profile is similar, and the idea behind both cars are the same.

I have nothing against certain bodytypes, and wouldn't refuse a design based on the "type" it is.

This is obviously a shooting brake, a style that seems to make its come-back... Well this is a very exclusive, very noble, very exquisite bodystyle.

However, this FF is not very enticing in itself. The design is quite, well, not very interesting.

The latest Ferraris are rather cartoonish ini fact. In the proportions, details, overall design.

Lacking refinement, going for easy show like big LED-lights and peugeot-style bumpers... The proportions are nothing to write home about, detailing aren't that exciting... I even would say I prefer the very scholar Scaglietti design to it.

It might grow on me, but till now... Maybe it's the angle of the pics too; IRL it will be very long and very wide and very flat, which could make it much more interesting than it is in those pics.

Okay, it has AWD, a first for a Ferrari.
Okay, it is a shooting brake.

So what?

I have to admit it does look a lot better in that picture. Better looking than the 458? Definitely, but that's not saying much...

Yes that photo makes the design stand out much more then the previous photos, but better that the 458...IMO No way!

this car hits all the right spots for me; the styling, concept, drivetrain....i see me all over it. o, and this is a Ferrari i could drive anywhere, anytime. perfect.
