Outgoing Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG Coupe to live on until next spring
Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG Coupe 20.03.2011
Will be sold alongside the new C63 sedan & wagon
According to Car & Driver, Mercedes-Benz will continue to offer the outgoing C63 AMG Coupe until next spring.
The new Mercedes-AMG C63 is out but only in sedan and estate body styles which is probably why Mercedes-Benz has decided to keep the old C63 Coupe alive until next spring. C&D mentions this isn't applicable just for the Euro-spec model as the US version will live on as well until spring which means that for a short amount of time the old & new C63s will co-exist in dealerships.
There are some huge differences between the two generations as aside from the name change (Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG to Mercedes-AMG C63), the cars boast entirely different engines, with the old C63 packing a naturally-aspirated V8 6208cc engine with 457 HP (336 kW) whereas the new C63 makes use of a smaller twin-turbocharged V8 4.0-liter rated at 476 HP (350 kW). While the horsepower figure gap isn't significant, adding the twin turbos has bumped torque by 100 Nm (74 lb-ft) to 700 Nm (516 lb-ft).
An all-new C63 AMG Coupe will probably be introduced in the second half of next year, following the launch of the regular C-Class Coupe. Mercedes-Benz is also planning a C-Class Convertible which will also get the AMG treatment. It is believed both the coupe and the soft top cabrio C-Class models will receive a slightly more individual design compared to their more practical cousins.
