Audi Spied Testing Sporty Q7 Prototype, Could Be the S Q7

We’ve spied the future second-generation Audi Q7 on countless occasions and now we are here to tell you the new incarnation of the SUV will bring the vehicle up to speed. Literally.

Among other benefits, the generation change will grant the Audi Q7 an invitation to the performance SUV party. Late to this the Q7 might be, but the German automaker has... big plans for the vehicle.

Before we move on to the details though, let’s take a moment to talk about what sets the spied prototype apart. Take a closer look at its rear end, as if the test vehicle has just overtaken you and you’ll notice the rounded tailpipes of the previous test vehicles are gone.

These have been replaced with a set of trapezoidal tailpipes that obviously spell “AMG”, pointing out this prototype could be the test bed for the expected performance version of the car, the S Q7. This isn’t the first time major automakers turn to trolling for their test vehicles, so we’ll move on to the technical side of the story.

While Audi hasn’t confirmed the S Q7 yet, the model’s arrival is almost certain. It’s only natural for Ingolstadt to want a bite of the segment where models like the BMW X5 M, Mercedes ML 63 AMG and the Porsche Cayenne Turbo play. Mind you, the Q7’s more generous frame will mean that its closest competitor is probably the Mercedes GL 63 AMG.

Regardless of that, motivation will come from Audi’s twin-turbo 4.0-liter V8. For the S Q7, the engine could deliver anywhere between 500 and 600 hp. You see, when Audi enters a power war within a certain segment, the automaker likes to dominate. The latest example of this comes from the all-new RS6 Plus, which takes the aforementioned 4.0-liter unit to 600 HP, a tad above everything else in the class.

Nonetheless, the Q7 will be an S, not an RS model, so we expect its output to stay closer to 520 hp of the S8 sedan, rather than to 600 hp.

Like the rest of the Q7 line-up, the S will ride on Audi’s incarnation of the third-generation VW Group SUV platform. This is expected to put the Q7 on an aluminum diet, so we could see a weight loss of up to 800 lbs (363 kg). That’s about the same as a pair of Ducati motorcycles, in case you were wondering.

Audi Q7 e-tron coming later this year or early next year

Could have a 3.0-liter TDI V6 engine that is backed up by an electric motor
Audi technology communications manager Oliver Strohbach has revealed some new details about the Q7 e-tron.

Speaking CarAdvice, Strohbach confirmed the model would be introduced later this year or early next year. Healso said the model will ride on the MLB Evo platform which will eventually underpin the next-generation A4, A6 / A7, A8 and "all the family."

Power will be provided by a 3.0-liter TDI V6 engine that is backed up by an electric motor. This will reportedly give the model a combined maximum output of 373 PS (275kW) and 700Nm (516 lb-ft) of torque. Despite the impressive performance figures, the crossover is expected to consume less than 4.0L/100km (58.8 mpg US / 70.6 mpg UK) and have an electric only range in excess of 50 km (31 miles).

Will use an e-turbo engine
Audi's Board Member for Technical Development has confirmed plans to offer an SQ7.

Speaking to Autocar, Prof. Dr. Ulrich Hackenberg said "The new Q7 will be available in the market next year but the electric turbo will come a bit later in the Audi SQ7 available in 2016.”

Hackenberg declined to go into specifics but the model could use the same powertrain as the RS5 TDI concept. As you may recall, it had a twin-turbo 3.0-liter V6 TDI engine with a "supplemental electric turbocharger" that was powered by a compact lithium-ion battery. This setup enabled the engine to produce 385 PS (283 kW) and 750 Nm (553 lb-ft) of torque. While those numbers don't seem to impressive by themselves, they allowed the concept to accelerate from 0-100 km/h in four seconds and consume less than 5.3 L/100km (44.3 mpg US / 53.2 mpg UK).

Toned down or should I dare say the whale has lost tons of blubber? Looks much more compact and sporty which will be a good thing. But really looks small for something thats supposed to be a 7 seater doesn't it? Well then again the new X5 looks more X3 IRL than X5 of old (E70+E53 replacement) and I do not like the X5 looking so small, honestly disappointed. My mind is leaving me I swear! I am really into Body-on-Frame LARGE SUV's these days...new 2015 Escalade and Chevy Suburban also GMC's new Sierra truck range. Almost forgot the aluminum bodied new F150 pick up.

What am I talking about!?:nailbiting::wacky::wacky::wacky:

Spied – A trio of India-bound 2015 Audi Q7s spotted testing

Three prototypes of the next generation 2015 Audi Q7 were spotted testing in Croatia recently by a reader of Car Scoops. The second generation of Audi’s flagship SUV launches next year in Europe, as confirmed to Indian Autos Blog by the company’s technical head, Dr. Ulrich Hackenberg.

The next generation Q7 is expected to weigh 360 kg less compared to today’s model.

Based on the VW Group’s MLB architecture, the new Q7 is expected to weigh about 360 kg less compared to today’s model. The weight loss is reported to have come from the use of high-tensile strength aluminium in the SUV’s construction.

While some existing engines will be carried over to the new Q7, Audi could use the SUV’s launch to debut their new 3.0-liter TDI V6 Clean Diesel engine which is Euro 6 compliant. The engine, which was revealed in May this year, is capable of producing 268 bhp and 600 Nm of torque, according to Audi. Compared to the current 3.0-liter V6 TDI, the Clean Diesel is up to 13 percent more fuel efficient and emits 15 fewer grams of CO2 per km.

The Q7 in India is assembled at the company’s Aurangabad facility from CKD kits. The same arrangement would continue when the new Q7 arrives in India sometime next year.

2016 Audi Q7 Plug-in Hybrid spied on the Nurburgring

Could use a 3.0-liter TDI V6 engine, an electric motor and a lithium-ion battery pack.
Work continues on the 2016 Audi Q7 as our spies have caught two different prototypes undergoing testing in Europe.

While we've already seen petrol-powered models before, the Nürburgring prototype features a plug-in hybrid powertrain. Nothing is official but the model is expected to use a 3.0-liter TDI V6 engine, an electric motor and a lithium-ion battery pack. This setup could enable the crossover to produce a combined maximum output of 373 PS (275kW) and 700Nm (516 lb-ft) of torque. More importantly, we can expect the Q7 e-tron to consume less than 4.0L/100km (58.8 mpg US / 70.6 mpg UK) and have an electric only range in excess of 50 km (31 miles).

On the styling front, there doesn't appear to be anything that sets the plug-in hybrid apart but that could change when the camouflage comes off. Regardless, the crossover features a wider and more upright grille which is flanked by angular headlights. Moving further back, we can see a gently sloping roofline and more pronounced rear fenders. The crossover also has a tailgate-mounted spoiler and a dual exhaust system.

2015 Audi Q7: a New Design Language from Ingolstadt

Football players around the world should start saving money right now, because Audi is about to launch a replacement for their favorite quattro large SUV in a few months. We are, of course, talking about the all-new Q7, the second generation of the machine that put Audi firmly on the map in 2005.

Our spy photographers have revealed prototypes of the Q7 in different stages of its development over the past year. As the model is nearing its debut date, we think it's time to scoop how the family tree will branch out into a new design direction, one that will influence everything from the Q3 to the rumored Q8 super-SUV.

As our rendering suggests, the headlights and grille are connected into a single design unit. Basically all the premium car companies do this now, joined by Kia, Hyundai or Ford. The effect is of a wider, sportier front end, without having to affect the car's proportions.
The current Q7 has headlights that look like they've been styled with christmas decorations. The individual LEDs will be replaced by a Y-shaped daytime running element that flanks the actual Xenon light unit. As an option, Audi will let you order the Q7 with full-LED or Matrix LED.

Underneath the redesigned exterior is the MLB evo platform, which is also said to be going into Bentley's Falcon SUV. It's lighter and stiffer than before. Power will come from some of the most advanced engines on the market, including new diesels fitted with one electric compressor and plug-in petrol hybrids.

There should be at least one SQ7 model, powered by either the V8 from an S8 or the "tri-turbo 3.0 TDI" from the recently revealed RS5 TDI Concept. Considering how the SQ5 is sold with both TFSI and TDI mills depending on the market, we could see both forms of Q7, though not until 2016.

A flagship on the way?

Sources tell us Audi is once again mulling a model above the Q7, which has gone mainstream in China and the US. Like the BMW X6, the answer seems to be going for a four-door coupe body and more standard trim across the range. Due in 2017, the Q8 should emerge for outdoors testing next year and will feature even more aggressive styling.

Audi

Audi AG is a German automotive manufacturer of luxury vehicles headquartered in Ingolstadt, Bavaria, Germany. A subsidiary of the Volkswagen Group, the company’s origins date back to the early 20th century and the initial enterprises (Horch and the Audiwerke) founded by engineer August Horch (1868–1951). Two other manufacturers (DKW and Wanderer) also contributed to the foundation of Auto Union in 1932. The modern Audi era began in the 1960s, when Volkswagen acquired Auto Union from Daimler-Benz, and merged it with NSU Motorenwerke in 1969.
