Q7 Next generation Audi Q7 - CGIs, info, spy pics

I wish they ditched the single frame grille! Back to the old grille would open up a lot of design possibilities imo. It would be fresh again and they can play with the sheetmetal again instead of putting on a giant grille.

Audi needs to know this out the park. Get it to market and let it dominate before next generation ML/GLE and GL/GLS come around. I would think those Benzes will now get a S-Class/C-Class type makeover and that will spell trouble for everyone else.

I believe the text below contains the same statement like at audiblog.nl but only in english:

Next-gen Audi Q7 confirmed for Detroit debut
Based on the MLB Evo platform
Dr. Ulrich Hackenberg, member of the Board of Management of Audi AG and head of Audi’s Technical Development, has announced the all-new second generation Audi Q7 will be officially revealed during the Detroit Auto Show in January 2015.

Speaking to IndianAutosBlog at the Paris Motor Show, he said “if you make a trip to Detroit, you’ll see it”. Most likely the model will make its world premiere on 12 or 13 January 2015, when the press days of the motor show will be held.

The 2015 Audi Q7 will be based on VW’s MLB Evo architecture and will be significantly lighter than its predecessor, as previous reports have indicated the model could drop as much as 800 lbs (363 kg). There are also rumors about a version with an electric turbocharged engine with power coming likely from the RS5 TDI concept. An e-tron variant was confirmed and it will feature a 3.0 TDI V6 working with an electric motor to provide a rumored combined output of 373 HP (275 kW) and 700 Nm (516 lb-ft).

I really want to know how they can drop 360kg off the weight of the already large new Q7!! Same story with the Range Rover (over 400kg supposed drop in weight) but it ended up only a fraction lighter than the old model.

I expect this to be a masterpiece. They've had 50 years to get this right. Stunning interior, engines and design please, not the same ole getting stale Audi design.

2016 Audi Q7 Spied with Matrix LED Headlights for First Time

As the all-new Audi Q7 is getting nearer to its debut, likely to take place during the 2015 Detroit Auto Show, we have the first photos of the SUV with full-LED Matrix headlights.

This prototypes we've been able to show you so far all came with Xenon projectors, which will be the standard setup for the new Q7. However, for around €2,000 more, customers will be able to opt for the more technologically advanced Matrix LED system.

This system made its debut last year on the A8 mid-life facelift and soon after was also added on the A6 and A7 model range, including the S and RS models. The system uses many separate diodes that can be individually controlled in order to maximize visibility without blinding oncoming traffic.

Our spy photos suggest the setup on the Q7 is a little different to the one on the sedan models. There's only one lens for the low beams and three for the high beam, separated by a vertical line of while lights from the DRL system. We actually like it better this way and it kind of reminds us of the system on the CLS-Class facelift.

We also get a very clear glimpse of the rest of this SUV's design language. It's evident that some of the current Q7's bulkiness has been mixed in with the next version of Audi's design language. The highlight of this will be a new grille design, easily recognized as a hexagon and connected to the headlights in order to create a strong front end look.

The Q7 continues to be a massive vehicle, imposing both on the road and off it. However, a new platformwill help it reduce its weight significantly. The engines available should be carried over from the A7 and A8, including three 3.0 TDI diesels with outputs varying from 218 to 320 PS. A sport model is also planned, powered by either a 4-liter twin-turbo V8 or the "tri-turbo" TDI system from the RS5 Concept, which would make this a match for the BMW X5 M50d. However, this won't be available at launch and neither will the Q7 e-tron plug-in hybrid that the company wants to make.

Evolutionary but conservative. But this shows that the difficult gestation period in the design phase was accurate and in the rush to complete to meet the deadline they just continued the same ideas as the current car but made to fit their more current design phase.

hmmm...not quite sure what to think of that. I know it's pre production and all, but my first impression is not good. The giant touchpad looks silly.

Center console looks good, but what is with the trend (i.e. AMG-GT) of placing the gear shifter behind the user interface controls? Wouldn't the driver prefer to have it closer to the armrest?

Audi

Audi AG is a German automotive manufacturer of luxury vehicles headquartered in Ingolstadt, Bavaria, Germany. A subsidiary of the Volkswagen Group, the company’s origins date back to the early 20th century and the initial enterprises (Horch and the Audiwerke) founded by engineer August Horch (1868–1951). Two other manufacturers (DKW and Wanderer) also contributed to the foundation of Auto Union in 1932. The modern Audi era began in the 1960s, when Volkswagen acquired Auto Union from Daimler-Benz, and merged it with NSU Motorenwerke in 1969.
