A6/S6/RS6 Next Generation Audi A6 (C7)

Who's in charge at Audi AG? Is he blind? :eusa_thin

Every car coming from Audi now looks pretty much the same. We sold our second C6 and got a 320d waiting for the C7. But from the looks on the pics, it will probably be better to buy an 520d F10.

Looking similar is OK imo but there is absolutely no surprise... i might be biased but there isn't much eagerness to see how the car looks when fully undisguised because we know pretty much that it will be something very predictable anyway.

As with the A7 it's one of those cars that need to be seen in the fresh before you can fully appreciate it's looks. I can't deny that the design isn't as elegant as say an XF but it will still be a handsome looking car in it's own right.

I don't think anyone has said it will look ugly, just not very imaginative.

It's a catch 22 that statement, if you try and reinvent the design every time you product a new model people complain that there's nothing familiar that ties the models together, but when you make each model have a familiar design language people complain they are without imagination. I'm glad I am not a designer.

Pleasantly surprised. Yes it will look like tha a8 & a4 however its got its own design language as well. Angle of the front wheel doesnt help this picture/chop? however think of it this way......

Does anyone know when they will release the car?

Audi's have never spoken to me personally (although my first car was one). And I respect (and appreciate) clean, gimmick-free designs, that aren't trying to "reinvent", as that's overdone today, and clean is a breath of fresh air in its own right.... But my problem with this car, is how it just doesn't look as "expensive" or "Euro" as the older Audi's (this goes for the A4 too). A lot of this lies in the greenhouse, it just looks extremely plebeian and like they made it as "car that copies an Audi's greenhouse", more than the classic Audi greenhouse.

Well, to add an interesting point to this conversation about green houses... The Ford Five Hundred was designed by the previous head of Audi design if I'm not mistaken.

I haven't felt that at all. It feels very Euro to me. In fact, when they introduced the A6 near the end of the last decade, they more or less introduced the coupe aesthetic to a 4-door. Up until then, 4-doors were pretty upright. The issue I have is that the greenhouse and overall profile are pretty much the same amongst the mainstream line-up, i.e. A4, A6, and A8. MB has offered up enough distinction amongst its line-up, including the mainstream sedans. BMW has a bit less distinction than MB, but IMO it's still distinctive enough. The 3er is short in length and stubby. The 5er is more wedge-shaped and casual. The 7er looks more upright and regally lengthed. The Audi line-up offers the profile shape, with some the major details being the same and some of the minor details being different. This A6, in itself, is a nice, gimmick-free design. But in the context of its lineage, both its own and the other Audi brethren, it's rather long in the tooth.

Sorry bout the double-post, but just noticed Footie's statement.

I agree with that to a certain extent. The thing is when you keep repeating the same motifs over and over again. Take the extreme example of Jaguar, prior to the current XF, of course. You can only acknowledge your past for so long until if gets boring. You're right in saying that it's easier to keep doing what has been successful, and there's no denying what Audi has done is anything short of spectacular. But for how long before it becomes too safe and predictable?

Thanks for those pics Mave the C7 will look hawt!
but why does the numberplate say 8 and not 6 ?
Chop maybe? :)

Perhaps I have misunderstood something. But aren't the pictured automobiles A8s' ? I'm quite certain that they are.

I am certain that this isn't the new A8. Here's an A8 from a similar angle, notice the panel lines where the bumper and rear quater panel join, they aren't the same.

In fact once you start to examine the two design you can clearly see the two are completely different.

Well, competly is not the adjetive I would use.

OK, similar designs but side by side will look completely different. Much like the human face, we all have 2 eyes, 2 ears, a nose and a mouth but we all are different, even ones from the same family. :t-cheers:

Quite true regarding the rear bumper/quarter panel area. I also notice the apparently missing boneline on the bootlid and the somewhat different rear window. Also the different taillamp graphics. But somehow, these pictures don`t seem to reflect what the Brenda Priddy spyshots are conveying. The proximity of the top of the rear wheel arches to the shoulderlines or the third side window next to the C-pillar, for example. Perhaps the photos are indeed merely photoshopped.

Whatever, we shall be seeing the official press photographs soon enough. I imagine within the next 4-5 weeks at the latest.

C'mon they are the same car! Both are A8s. The "differences" are only due to the bad quality of the second pictures hiding some details.

No way the A6 will be that similar to the A8, not even Audi can do that. Even the size appears the same here, do you really think Audi would make them that identical, even with the exact same wheels?

The A6 will be sportier, shorter and slightly lower, and will have a less static stance. It won't be much different, but still recognizable as a different model when you look at it!!!

Neither of the images are an A8.

This here is an A8.

Look at the chrome detailing above the exhaust pipes, where the panel joint lines are around the rear bumper, the shape of the boot lip. It's obvious that these images aren't that of an A8.

Indeed you are right, footie.

Bootlid, rear bumper shutline, rear lights inner design, chrome detailing are different.

I assumed, seeing the "A8" in the plate of the first car, that it was an A8, and that only the second one was supposed to be the A6. And found out both were identical...

I should have verified.

That said, those A6s are very similar to an A8, and I certainly hope the real deal will be more dynamic and innovative. I'm sure at least the front will be, with the very nice new grille, but the rest of the car is quite heavy...

Let's see!

Audi

Audi AG is a German automotive manufacturer of luxury vehicles headquartered in Ingolstadt, Bavaria, Germany. A subsidiary of the Volkswagen Group, the company’s origins date back to the early 20th century and the initial enterprises (Horch and the Audiwerke) founded by engineer August Horch (1868–1951). Two other manufacturers (DKW and Wanderer) also contributed to the foundation of Auto Union in 1932. The modern Audi era began in the 1960s, when Volkswagen acquired Auto Union from Daimler-Benz, and merged it with NSU Motorenwerke in 1969.
