A8/S8 New Audi A8 (D4) - Official Pics & Info

No, Braaf is right. the A8 is an ugly version of a dull design (Audi design is pretty dull wouldn't you say?).
The D3 was a beautiful version of a dull design :)

C´mon. D3 is S8 guise looked better than any car of its segment, at least, much better thna E65 7er. The new A8 has nothing to do with it, no matter how hard Audi tries, the ****** the design since the moment they decided to mimic the A4 one.

What I was trying to say is that the D3 was a great execution of a dull design theme....you know, proportions and all....
The Audi design theme has been the same for ages and some cars turn out better than others..

^ And yet as a brand their products are selling extremely well. Clearly there is plenty out there is the real world that dig their designs.

LOL ^^

Clearly, but there's a lot of stupid people out there. Like, 95% of the whole population of western countries.

BTW, today I´ve seen one of the latest D3 S8s, WOOWWW, it´s so much nicer than the new model, how sad...

LOL, look up my country once on a worldmap please, if you know how to use it :)
You probably don't judging by your reply, so I'll give you a hint: it's in the western part of west Europe.

BTW, that was the funniest thing I have ever read in this forum my whole life!!
Thanks a bunch!!

It would surprise you how cheap this things can be picked up for. Great car of little more than new A4 money.

Audi has unveiled the new Audi A8 L Security, which is specifically designed for dignitaries and heads of state.
Purposely created to look like a standard A8 L, the Security boasts hot-formed armored steel, polycarbonate-coated multilayer glass, reinforced side sills, and acres of aramide fabric. In total, the interior armoring weighs 720 kilograms (1,587 lbs), while the door and window modifications comtribute an additional 660 kilograms (1455 lbs). Thanks to all these changes, the car is certified for VR 7 class ballistic protection which means it can handle everything from AK-47s to hand grenades.
Besides the armoring, the car can also be equipped with an emergency exit system (which uses pyrotechnic charges to blast open the doors), a fire extinguishing system (which douses the wheels, underbody, fuel tank, and engine in flame retardant foam), and an emergency fresh-air system which uses pressured oxygen to ensure passengers can escape chemical and gas attacks. Should that fail to inspire confidence, there's also an LED signaling system (for convoy travel), a siren, and a two-way communication system for talking to people outside the vehicle without having to lower the windows.
Despite all the post-apocalyptic preparations, the car hasn't forgotten it's luxury origins as it comes nicely equipped with four-zone climate control, a Bose audio system, a TV tuner, and two individual rear seats with power adjustments. Additionally, customers can order a full-length center console, a refrigerator, a rear seat entertainment system, and a "relaxation seat" with heating, massage, and a power-adjustable footrest.
At launch, the A8 L Security will be powered exclusively by a 6.3-liter W12 engine that develops 500 PS (368 kW / 494 hp) and 625 Nm (461 lb-ft) of torque. It enables the car to accelerate from 0-100 km/h in 7.3 seconds, before hitting a limited top speed of 210 km/h (130 mph). If that sounds a tad excessive, another engine - likely a 4.0-liter V8 - will be offered in 2012 with an average fuel consumption of 10 to 11 L/100 km (21 to 24 US mpg).
No word on pricing, but the Audi A8 L Security W12 will go on sale this summer.

High-speed Internet functionality has been presented in an Audi A8 prototype

Audi has developed a fully-functioning prototype of an A8 model fitted with a new broadband Internet-access technology.
The new in-car Internet function was developed by Audi with partner Alcatel-Lucent and features LTE technology. LTE is a next-generation mobile transmission technology, a successor to the current 3G system, that also includes UMTS mobile standard. LTE features data transfer rates of up to 100 Megabits per second, compared to 14.4 Megabits/second for 3G.
"We will use LTE technology to extend our advantage in automotive networking and further consolidate the Audi connect strategy," said Michael Dick, Audi Board Member for Technical Development, at the presentation of the broadband A8 prototype.
A high-speed mobile Internet functionality can allow for high-definition video to be streamed live into a vehicle. Offering state-of-the-art in-car technology like that can give Audi a competitive advantage.

Audi A8 Named 1 of 3 World Car of the Year Finalists

Mar 1, 2011

source: World Car Awards

Geneva, SWITZERLAND -- At a press conference hosted by Bridgestone Corporation and the New York International Auto Show at the Geneva International Motor Show, the top three finalists for the World Car of the Year, World Performance Car, World Green Car and World Car Design of the Year awards were announced today.

The winners will be declared at the New York International Auto Show on Thursday, April 21, 2011.

From an initial entry list of thirty-nine (39) new vehicles from all over the world, then a short list of ten finalists, the top three contenders for the overall 2011 World Car of the Year title are, in alphabetical order: the Audi A8, the BMW 5 Series and the Nissan LEAF.

To be eligible for the overall World Car award, the candidates must become available for sale on at least two continents during the period beginning January 1, 2010 and ending May 30, 2011.

Vehicles are selected and voted on by an international jury panel comprised of sixty-six (66) top-level automotive journalists from twenty-four (24) countries around the world. Each juror was appointed by the World Car Steering Committee on the basis of his or her expertise, experience, credibility, and influence. Each juror typically drives and evaluates new vehicles on a regular basis as part of their professional work. All hold significant stature within their own regions and countries.

The top three finalists for the 2011 World Performance Car award are, in alphabetical order: the Ferrari 458 Italia, the Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG and the Porsche 911 Turbo.

While the winner of the overall World Car award must excel in a broad range of attributes, the World Performance Car award must demonstrate a specific and overt sports/performance orientation while satisfying the same availability criteria as for the overall World Car of the Year award.

Entrants may be chosen from that list of eligible vehicles, or they may be newly introduced variants that satisfy the same criteria, but are derived from existing rather than brand-new models. In all cases, they must have a minimum annual production rate of five-hundred (500) vehicles.

The World Green Car award is presented by Bridgestone Corporation (Japan). Ryoji Yamada, General Manager of Brand Management said, "We are very pleased and honored to sponsor the 2011 World Green Car award. The environment is everyone's responsibility. And throughout our global family of companies, we take this responsibility very seriously. We believe it is our mission to serve society with superior quality... not just with eco-friendly products but also in the way we produce those products and the way in which we support our many communities with environmentally-friendly activities such as wildlife habitats and our Lake Biwa initiative in Japan ".

Due to the complexity of some of the 'green' technologies, three (3) green experts were appointed by the World Car Steering Committee to extensively review all documentation and specs associated with each candidate. They then create a short-list of finalists for review by the sixty-six (66) jurors in their second round of voting in February. The three green experts were in alphabetical order: Sam Abuelsamid (representing North America), Dean Slavnich (representing Europe) and Tadashi Tateuchi (representing Asia).

The sixty-six (66) member jury chose the following top three finalists for the 2011 World Green Car award: the BMW 320d EfficientDynamics Edition, the Chevrolet Volt and the Nissan LEAF.

Cars eligible for the 2011 World Car Design of the Year award are taken from the list of World Car candidates or they may be included as a stand-alone entry provided the vehicle is introduced and available for sale in at least one major market during the period beginning January 1, 2010 and ending May 30th, 2011.

A design panel consisting of five highly respected world design experts was asked to first review each candidate, and then establish a short-list of recommendations for the jurors. The design experts were: Masatsugu Arimoto (Japan), Silvia Baruffaldi (Italy), Gernot Bracht (Germany), Sam Livingstone (UK) and Tom Matano (USA). Jurors then voted on the experts' recommendations. The top three design finalists as chosen by the jurors are, in alphabetical order: the Alfa Romeo Giulietta, the Aston Martin Rapide and the Ferrari 458 Italia.

Prime Research International, a global leader in strategic communication research and consultancy is once again the World Car Awards' research partner. The company will provide strategic reports in 2011 that analyze our awards global automotive media coverage.

Now in their seventh year, the annual World Car awards have become one of the world's most prestigious, credible and significant programs of its kind. The awards were inaugurated in 2003, and officially launched in January 2004, to reflect the reality of the global marketplace, as well as to recognize and reward automotive excellence on an international scale. The awards are intended to complement, not compete, with existing national and regional Car of the Year programs. The awards are administered by a non-profit association, under the guidance of a Steering Committee of pre-eminent automotive journalists from Asia, Europe, and North America. Peter Lyon (Japan) and Matt Davis (Italy) are the co-chairs; John McCormick (USA), Jens Meiners (Germany) and Gerry Malloy (Canada) are the directors. There is no affiliation with, nor are the awards in any way influenced by any publication, auto show, automaker, or other commercial enterprise.

The new Audi A8 „SR 8“ by Hofele Design is elegant and sportive at the same time.
Perfectly balanced aerodynamics combined with exclusive and individual design convert the well-behaved limousine into a very special sports car dressed with a dynamic, sportive suit.

The new body kit shows how an original „RS8“ made by Audi might look like.

Sportive design
With this body kit Hofele-Design transforms the Audi A8 D4 into the sportive dynamic „RS 8.“ The new body kit consists of a complete front bumper with original “RS5 mesh inserts, a rear apron with diffuser, a 4-tube sports muffler and a rear trunk spoiler. The front bumper has big air intakes which supply the intercoolers with more air. The newly shaped rear apron is the frame for the removable diffuser. This diffuser surrounds the four tailpipes of the new sports muffler. The sports muffler has an additional airflow and has a sportive sound, especially on cars with Gasoline engine. The diffuser can either be painted in the cars colour or in a contrasting colour like silver or black or can be ordered with a layer of real carbon.

Exclusive highlight
As exclusive highlight, besides the carbon rear diffuser, Hofele-Design also offers carbon mirror housings to spotlight the exclusive & sportive side of this luxury limousine.

Luxury interior
For the inside of the car Hofele-Design offers a bi-colour leather interior. The two-coloured seats have a quilted stripe made of soft nappa leather which crosses the seats in the middle. This wonderful masterpiece is available with special stitching and as a combination of different premium materials like smooth leather, rough leather or Alcantara (ecsaine / ultrasuede). Also available are leather-covered door panels and a steering wheel.

Dynamic appearance
Part of the Hofele program for the Audi A8 D4 is a variety of alloy wheels in the sizes from 9J x 20“ up to 10J x 22“.

The electronic speed-related lowering module ETS lowers the Audi A8 with air suspension up to 40mm. The system is only active on speeds under 70 km/h, on speeds over 70 km/h the system is deactivated to give the chassis its full comfort and security.

Indulge yourself a bit more driving pleasure with the engine tuning by Hofele-Design. The engine software optimisation reveilles the unused reserves of the strong A8 engines.

The 4.2 V8 FSI Gasoline engine is tuned from 372 PS to 390 PS and the 4.2 TDI CR is tuned from 350 PS to 390 PS and sensational 900 NM. That is some increase of force!

...something special from each different angle!
