A8/S8 New Audi A8 (D4) - Official Pics & Info

Hmmm, that RS-ish front end is quite nice.
Indeed it is!

But from this angle, it still looks like a big A4 :(

IRL standing - facing both the A8 and A7 from the font is the best angle. They have a VERY low stance, extremely sporty and tight. The sheet metal literally looks like as if it was pulled tight over the body frame. Honestly I was very overwhelmed at JIMS seeing these cars under the floodlights, they are sporty;)

It definitely looks its best in dark colours which might explain why Audi's colour chart was set up this way. The front overhang is excessive in my opinion but from most other angles it's a handsome looking car and at least behind the wheel you don't have to look at its nose and talking of behind the wheel it's rather good to drive.

let's hope next A8 will be based on real wheel drive platform...it outhandles the heavy S class, and 7 series now...could it get worse instead of better? Carefull what you wish for. Wagging the tail on an A8 seems like the wrong market profile.

Audi A8 Ranks Highest in Large Premium Car Segment and Highest Performing Model Overall

The 2012 Audi A8 is the highest performing model in the study for the first time; 2012 Audi A6 receives the Most Appealing Midsize Premium Car designation
The Audi A8 received the award for the most appealing large premium car and is the overall best performing model in the 2012 J.D. Power and Associates APEAL study released today.
The study measures how gratifying ownership of a new vehicle is to consumers, who gave the Audi luxury flagship sedan high marks. In fact, the A8 received the highest score in the 2012 study. APEAL survey respondents also ranked the redesigned and progressive Audi A6 as the most appealing model in the midsize premium car segment.
Overall, Audi APEAL study scores improved by 13 points from 2011 results, indicating an immediate payoff for the Audi brand strategy to bring the most technologically advanced lineup of models to U.S. consumers in the luxury car market.
Audi moved up one position to rank 4th out of the 34 nameplates in the 2012 APEAL study. This is the 17th year of the J.D. Power and Associates US Automotive Performance, Execution and Layout (APEAL) Study SM, which examines owners’ assessments of the design, content, layout, and performance of their new vehicle in the first 90 days of ownership.
“Audi products have become the envy of the luxury automotive industry,” said Scott Keogh, President, Audi of America. “This is a result of our unwavering focus on developing premium vehicles that are intelligent in design, progressive in technology, and exceptional in performance. According to the 2012 J.D. Power and Associates APEAL Study, consumers are recognizing this as well. There can be no question that Audi has the right lineup for these times.”
The 2012 Audi A8 – the flagship of the Audi brand known for its superior design and progressive advances in engineering, technology and performance – received the APEAL award in the Large Premium Car segment. With a score of 902, the A8 was the highest-performing model in the 2012 APEAL Study. This marks the first time in the history of the study that an Audi model achieves this distinction. With its design and innovative Audi connect™ system which offers Google Earth™, Google™ Local Search, clear and efficient Google™ Voice Local Search, real-time weather, fuel prices, news and travel information as well as a Wi-Fi connection for up to eight devices, its no wonder that the A8 received such high marks by APEAL respondents. Audi is the only brand globally offering factory-installed wireless Internet, an advance now available in core models, such as the Audi A4, Audi A5 and Audi Q5.
The 2012 Audi A6 received the highest ranking in the J.D. Power and Associates APEAL study for the Midsize Premium Car segment. One of the most innovative and technologically advanced Audi models to date, the A6 boasts intelligent features such as head-up display, a MMI® touch pad that recognizes handwriting in multiple languages, a thermal imaging camera with night vision assistant as well as the Audi pre sense plus driver assistance system. The A6 also features Audi connect.
Other Audi models fared well in the J.D. Power and Associates APEAL study results: the 2012 A4/5, Q5, Q7, and TT all ranked third in their respective segments.

I can fully see that award. The car is packed with tech and a knock out interior. The exterior is the only weak link.

^I use to feel the same way about it's exterior but I'm seeing more and more of them and I now feel Audi has judged it's evolution rather well.

I saw a basic equipped, gray-ish A8 parked next to an E63 yesterday. Aside from that gargantuous grille, nothing on the car looks like it's trying to be more expensive to you than being a stretched A4. It really surely didn't look like the more expensive of the two to my eyes at all.

One of the worst Audi designs in decades. Gigantic fail, particularly when you see it next to an A6, which is so much better resolved ....

Its as dull as dishwater to me, the S8 is the only version that looks just ok to me.

M
Co-sign that. I see to many A8's in Doha, fully equipped, white, with 21-22" rims... And still they look weird. But when you see the S8... whoa!
And the A6..is just such a beautiful car... Will never forget Audi for screwing up the A8.

This A8 is one of the most boring cars I've ever seen. It was already outdated as it came on the market. And this is supposed to be premium..? Well, not designwise it is. No style imo. If Audi is continuing this dull overall design, it's going to lose a lot of potential buyers.

...And yet,the brand is doing the complete opposite. Posting record numbers in sales for consecutive months.

I know, donkeykong, but I don't understand. There will be a moment in time where customers understand they're being screwed by Audi. It's a self called premiumbrand unworthy to sell an A8 for € 100.000 that looks exactly like an A4 for € 40.000. But then again, Audi (being a V.A.G. product) isn't a premiumbrand.

If you feel that Audi is not a premium brand there really is no sense in contiuning this discussion. My question to is what constitutes "premium",and what doesn't?

Audi is V.A.G. (Volkswagen Aktien Gesellschaft); V.A.G. is Volkswagen; Volkswagen is no premium brand. But I see you think there is no sense in continuing this discussion. Have a nice day, Donkeykong ;)

Audi

Audi AG is a German automotive manufacturer of luxury vehicles headquartered in Ingolstadt, Bavaria, Germany. A subsidiary of the Volkswagen Group, the company’s origins date back to the early 20th century and the initial enterprises (Horch and the Audiwerke) founded by engineer August Horch (1868–1951). Two other manufacturers (DKW and Wanderer) also contributed to the foundation of Auto Union in 1932. The modern Audi era began in the 1960s, when Volkswagen acquired Auto Union from Daimler-Benz, and merged it with NSU Motorenwerke in 1969.
