Awesome interior upgrade. Looks like a CLS interior mashed with the E interior now. More metal-y, nice clock, more mature and serious. I do like the E's original hooded gauges over those CLS gauges though.... maybe.

The screen looks like a sideways iPhone to me. Purposefully I'll bet.

I don't know why, but I am smitten with the large and wide navigation screens most commonly found in Bimmers and new Lexus models. It just makes the car feel complete I guess.... MB's navs (save for S, CL Class) have always been small...much to my dismay...

Don't worry, the new S Class will get huge screens.

On topic of the "sales talk" that we were having: U.S sales just came in. I don't know what's going on with BMW, but sales are down 20% last month, the NEW 3 was outsold by the old C again (by about 300 units) AND is down 30% from last August's E90 who sold over 8,000, and MOST surprisingly....

the 5 had what could be considered its worst month in the history of the U.S 5-Series. A measly 1,688 sold last month, down 60% from last years 4,000+. The E sold 4,515 last month. I've seriously never seen anything like that. Keep in mind that you can get into a 5-Series for UNDER $500 a month right now with even a very low residual. The E is still at $600 a month with a higher downpayment and residual. The Lexus GS NEW bodystyle isn't doing much at all, and the A6 isn't a big "sales hit" in the U.S (though, now both are selling as much as or slightly more than the 5er for August)

If "Sales do the talking", then the image-conscious American consumer did a lot of talking in August, and seem to be in agreement on the E-Class. :D

On another note, maybe for someone like me, the 5er is becoming a more compelling story.... I'm tired of having a car I see everywhere.

On topic of the "sales talk" that we were having:

You do realise that we have a sales section, and that all this one market sales nonsense you're posting has nothing to do with the E facelift at all???

Can't a mod put the above in the sales section, where it doesn't pollute other threads with sales nonsense nobody here sans a few care about???
I came here to watch new E-class stuff (which I find exiting to see), and all I see are some meaningless numbers about sales. Damn.

Snob?
Or trying to provoke BMW fans by 'showing' the 5er doesn't sell well or something? Hmmm.....I think it's both, actually.

No. If anything, it shows Americans still don't know what a proper car is.....
Funny, how you can swing an argument both ways....

And funny, how this has nothing to do with the E-class FL

People were actually talking about the 5er's sales being "so much better" before, in a way to give it superiority over the E. In the U.S market at least, the sales especially in relation to higher Lease rates, lagging MPG/HP, etc., show otherwise.

As for "snob", perhaps, but really, I just hold individuality to a high regard. Of course, I'd rather buy what I find to be the best product, but it does hamper the experience of enjoying something passionately when it's "shared" very widely and commonly. I could never truly happily own an E in Europe, for example, where it's a Taxi everywhere. I don't hold it against the car or the cars merits, but it would bug me. At the same time, I wouldn't spend money on something that I deemed inferior just because it was less common. In reality, an "affordable" car that's "rare" just means that it's unpopular. "Exclusivity" truly only comes from high priced cars that are at the same time popularly praised.

That is not my case. It is the reason why I now consider Lexus. In EU, Lexus is a quite rare car. And I don't find the IS/GS/LS that inferior to its rivals. And in most cases here in EU we are talking about cars like 320d, A4 2.0 TDI, C 200 CDI, 525d, E 250CDI, 730d and S 350 CDI, so talking about performance numbers is pointless.

but the sales are better...at least the last 6 months..worldwide.

BMW 5 Series 140,031
Audi A6 129,258
Mercedes E Class 99,661

or perhaps 40.000 more cars isn't much better. Depends on how someone define the world "much better".
Let's wait and see in January 2013, then we will know how much cars were sold year 2012. Showing sales for each months do not prove anything. Maybe the facelifted E-class will give the car a sales boost before this year is over.

American's buy off of style more. :D

Apparently there were production issues with the E in China which explains part of the sales deficiency. It's also an older car and due for a FL.

UG, looks certain base model headlights are going to have cheap reflector headlamps. Much cheaper cars have the projector... MB trying to increase their margins.

Yep, such a shame. You always know when Benz cheapen their models, because it is in the most obvious ways.... pity on MB.
