Yes Klier, you're smarter than the safety experts at Audi, BMW, Mercedes, Volvo etc. when it comes to driver assistance technologies.

It's simply not relaxing to drive around without your hands on the steering wheel here in crowded western Europe, I would imagine.
But you're right I am no expect and don't even know how it works. All I know is I never want it.

Thi thread has been brought back to life.lol. Will try an E400, but wished they made a E450.

My reaction when I saw that French video:

If I were going to buy an E-Class, I would definitely specify it with DP+ with SA.

Always makes me sad to see such a nice car smashed to a pulp! This offset crash test has shown that many new cars look incredibly weak when compared to the Euro NCAP test! I am glad to see the E-Class perform really well as the A-Pillars, roof and front doors still looked in good shape although the front structure crumbled horribly but took most of to impact energy. Some videos I have seen off new cars such as for the Toyota Camry and VW CC had terrible frontal deformations but even worse was seeing the A-pillars bend and the front doors crumble in as well. The Camry in particular looked really bad after as the front door B-pillar broke away completely!

Mercedes-Benz E-Class travels from Africa to UK on a single tank of fuel

Arriving at Goodwood Festival of Speed
A standard, British-registered, Mercedes-Benz E 300 BlueTEC HYBRID has traveled from Africa to the UK non-stop on one tank of fuel.

British journalist Andrew Frankel was behind the wheel during the adventure, averaging a 3.1 l/100 km (73.6 mpg) fuel consumption. The journey started from Tangier in Northern Africa and took him to the UK, traveling through two continents, four countries and three time zones in a total time of 27 hours. Frankel arrived at Goodwood just in time for his appearance at the Festival of Speed, having covered a total of 1,968 km (1,223 miles).

During the course of the journey, the journalists encountered "heavy rain, intense heat, rush hour traffic jams and dramatic elevation changes". The car, fitted with an optional larger 80-litre fuel tank which costs an extra 125 EUR (£100) in the UK, was virtually standard – powered by a 204 PS (150 kW) and 500 Nm (369 lb-ft) diesel engine and a 27 PS (20 kW) electric motor. Working together, these two units allow the vehicle to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h (0-62 mph) in 7.5 seconds before reaching a maximum speed of 241 km/h (150 mph).

This E 300 BlueTEC HYBRID can be seen in action throughout the weekend as a part of the "First Glance" paddock. The model is available in the UK as a sedan or a station wagon with prices starting from 49,800 EUR (£39,880).

These FL E's look soooo good on the road. I anxious to see what MBUSA will announce for the 2015 E-Class range. I want to try out the new E400. An E450 would be ever better.

M

Well they actually did it. In the U.S. the E350 Coupe and Cabriolet are replaced by the E400 Coupe and Cabriolet. That makes sense. What doesn't make sense is that the E550 Sedan has been replaced by the E400 sedan. I don't get having a V6 E350 with 302hp and a E400 with 329hp. Yes I know the torque is the difference, but still. The sole consolation is that the E400 can be had with RWD whereas the E550 could not be.

I don't get it, but I am eager to drive a RWD E400. No 9G yet either. Sigh............

I was browsing the German Mercedes website and noticed the 9G-Tronic is now available on almost all new diesel E-Classes (except E200 BlueTEC, E300 BlueTEC Hybrid and BlueTEC 4-matic models), although strangely the petrol models still do not have this transmission as an option or standard. Maybe it will eventually be phased in.

Is the standard elegance version higher than the Avantgarde version? Or is it only the AMG styling version that is lower?
Tried to search on the web, but didn't find anything regarding this.

Test drove the 2014 BMW 5 series the other day, and then I got to try the new 3 series GT which is built on the chinese version of the 3 series. The ride was extremely smooth, but the rest was not impressive.

I have only had AMG styling pr sportspackage on my cars, but next time i will probably go for the elegance, or at least the luxury suspension.
I hope they keep the star on the hood for the W213 elegance also....

The C-Class looks good with both the classic star on the hood grill and also with the big star in the sports grill. I think for the next E-class they will do the same as the sports grill version introduced on the FL is very popular but the classic grill version is still selling well and still looks great!

a small question:
A friend of mine is thinking of buying a E 220 CDI with AMG sports package.
Is it possible to only take the base version and choose AMG Sports package?
Or do you have to choose either Elegance or Avantgarde to be able to choose the AMG sports package?

The AMG sports package includes 611 artico dinamica seats, sport seats, sport stearing wheel and AMG exterior....
The only thing may be the interior three colored lighting one does not get?

Mercedes-Benz E-class limo offers six doors
GERMAN COACHBUILDER BINZ ROLLS OUT FACELIFTED VERSION OF LIMOUSINE

German coachbuilder BINZ is as known for its Mercedes-Benz E-class conversions as it is for its specialized ambulance and police models, and the company has just updated their range of six-door limousines based on Stuttgart's midsize offering. Mercedes-Benz treated the E-class to a thorough facelift for the 2014 model year, and the German coachbuilder has reworked its version of the six-door limousine as well, one of its most popular models.

BINZ has been working with the E-class platform since before it was called such, creating station wagons and limousines starting with the W114 chassis back in the 1960s. The company was able to capture a good chunk of the limousine market with its W123 offerings, especially the four-door model with reworked rear doors and a generous C-pillar passenger compartment, and has created many different versions of subsequent E-class cars.

The latest W212-body E-class six-door limousine is offered in eight passenger and six passenger form -- the difference being the layout of the middle and rear row seats -- making it an interesting option for diplomatic missions and hotels alike.

Stretched at the B-pillar by 43.7 inches, the BINZ six-door limousine uses specially fabricated middle row doors. The interior layout is reworked to maximize passenger space, and in Comfort-spec the limousine offers additional consoles for the middle and rear seats. Multi-zone climate controls are offered as an option for all three rows, as is a beverage chiller incorporated into the rear seat console. BINZ's six door E-class is also offered with a Connectivity Package, which includes a wireless router and an integrated telephone.

BINZ offers the six-door E-class limousine alongside the E-class-based four-door Business Limousine, which features a short inserted section at the B-pillar and is offered with a retractable partition between the driver and rear seat passenger compartments. The six-door limousine, being a favorite of posh hotels in Europe, can be ordered in E220, E350, E500, and E250 CDI flavors, though the smaller engines are most popular among the company's customers.

BINZ briefly had a North American subsidiary, but does not currently offer any of its vehicles in the U.S. The company's main customers for this and other types of Mercedes-Benz conversions (which include ambulances, police cars, fire and rescue vehicles, and hearses) are mostly in Europe, so the six-door limousine cannot be ordered here.
