Vs Mercedes S-Class vs. BMW 7-series

I am still amazed by how much buthurt are the three stars groupies when a man dares to don't give a crap about the mommies carriers they worship. Why don't you people stop being obsessed by the BMW side and keep your head cool like the BMW team does ? And btw @SKY why did you rate the post old ? Disagreeing is normal but old ? What's so old about someone liking the BMW look to find the most BMWish car the most appealing car in the segment.
You call it keeping their head cool? maybe you the rest..nah:D

Absolutely nothing. You even posted it in the official G11 7-series thread. Sheesh

You call it keeping their head cool? maybe you the rest..nah:D

Might be an idea to browse the MB section then and look for BMW fans. But that can become a slight problem because you'll have to filter through Wolfgang's ads :)

Well, I have been 7 years and a half here. I think I know most of the guys that post here and what they said about each car (speaking in general terms, I don't have an excel file with each member opinion). Since I have been here, have you ever said anythig different than that post I rated as old? I rated it old because it is just that IMO. Same story, like a bot always claiming marketing slogans about a brand.

Probably a lot of the members here already know this, but I can't take seriously someone who never has anything bad to say about a brand. I can't stand the fanboyism, or whatever it is that makes a human being mind to always like something with a certain brand on it and has the necessity of hating whatever it is that is not branded under such name.

Call me crazy.

No I call you having vision problems.

You guys are a big laugh, so who is the oldest guy here?@shonguiz or @SKY?:D

Ouch that report was harsh, harsh but true. I've been saying this for years they are slacking! But I see their plan, they decided to milk the crap out of the bangle revolution, and so they have done very successfully up until the last 1-2 years. It has run its course, and I thought that this new generation with the new 7er would be the end of the 15 year long milking procedure.. But no they did it again and they will do it once more with the 5er all signs are showing this. And they Will and are paying a price for that, this 7er is more or less a still born, but they can stomach that, a 5er that's not up to par for the coming 7 years will be brutal to stomach economically..
The revolution has to come with the next 3er which is at least 2 years away, it might be to late.. To late how? Will bmw seize to exist? Of course not! Will they take a hit hell yes.
Will they go under even if the next 3er is an evolution? No they won't! Will it take them over a decade to get back on top.. Most certainly!

I won't do what the bmw fans did back in early 00-s and predict the end of Mercedes. Hell will freeze before any of these companies go under.

But one thing is for sure they need to do something big, and they need to do it yesterday, if they still aspire to be the number one premium auto maker.

Ps
I find it funny that when some ppl talked about the heavy discounts on bmw cars a few months back they caught some serious flack and second guessing from the bmw fans, now that it's presented by the media the tone is very different.

PPS
Props to @klier for having enough subjectivity to take this for what it is..I thought I would never see the day where you would admit that bmw do anything wrong. Eni gave in a while back, only Scott left.. I have low hopes for
Him though.

And finally it's a massive failure for a company like bmw with the benchmark at their disposal to still come up with what they did with the new 7er, the s class didn't debut at the same time
It's been around for several years, and I'm sure as shit they stripped it down to the bones and back up again several times and you still come up with such a sub par effort. I expect more from bmw to be honest!
Precisely what I have been saying.

I don't get the hate the 7er has brought. It's not really a type of vehicle that's going To be futuristic it has to have a contemporary design for its customers.

I thought the 7er was quite conservative and bland in standard forms in photos, but in reality when you see or sit in one, it's a lot different.

The 3D effects in the rear body work is head turning for sure, something photos aren't good at capturing. And the flat shape of the boot is pretty nice!

My father, in his mid 50's is contemplating buying a 730d M sport SWB...I questioned him, explaining isn't it a bit boring and plain for his liking? (His previous vehicle was an F10 M5 - current has the diesel panamera :( )

Anyway, he explained to me that the 7er appeals to him, because it's truly a BMW in that segment. He talked to me about the interior, and how even though it's similar to say the current 3 series - that's the point - it's a BMW in THIS segment.

Even in this price bracket with the competitors, it still stays true - with its driving position, balanced layout, instruments angled towards the driver ext...they could have gone through a merc route and used circular vents, dual screens ect but the car isn't trying to be that. It's A drivers car in the segment, it may or may not be THE car to drive, but it really does stay true to its heritage.

As a BMW fan I'm proud of the interior man, Maybe I'd like it to be a bit more exciting, but the layout - superb. I don't know what more you guys would want from it. If it was more in line with the S class design - it would be labeled as a S class copy. If it was more minimalistic it would probably be labelled an Audi copy... You get the point. It's got to have its own identity, and it certainly has one.

BMW's design language has consistency which he likes, and it truly is a family of vehicles.

The only 7-series that looks better than it's contemporary competitor from Mercedes, is the E38 that looks better than the W140. On the other end is the hideous E65, that is terrible compared to the W220, and the odd looking E23 vs. the elegant W116.

Short wheelbase vs long wheelbase makes a difference in the perception (always find the SWB much more elegant) => F01 is SWB vs G11 LWB and it changes a lot the perception of the design I think.

With all due respect, but the S has transcended the 7er.
I think that in the collective consumer psyche - absolutely - the S-Class has a brand cachet bar none and indeed transcends the 7 Series.
I have to also then express that, from a mechanical, build, functional, technical and dynamic perspective, the two cars are much closer.
