iPhone 5 2012

What happened to your iphone 4..?

My girlfriend has it 'cause she needed a phone. I still use hers for lots of stuff at the house, but after I got the HTC Android to hold me over until iPhone 5, because it was the cheapest Smartphone I could get (free upgrade, and lower monthly payments than an iPhone 4S), I returned it because I just didn't need it nor love it, so settled for an LG dumbphone to save me $40+ every month. I actually don't even really need a Smartphone technically, but there are times, especially when traveling, that this dumbphone drives me nuts with its limitations. The funniest, though, is when people look at you like you're some kind of alien because you have a dumbphone, like you're some second class citizen, lol.

Funnily enough, this LG dumphone and a Samsung dumbphone were the two newest cheapest phones out (both with keyboards). The Samsung "version" was an utter crude POS, the slide out keyboard was very harsh and felt like it wouldn't last more than several months, the graphics were harsh, while the LG has a much more solid build, and the keyboard slideout is very fluid and "high quality". My friend got the Samsung I'm speaking of, and as I predicted, his keyboard is already broken and wont slide out fluidly, and the phone is falling apart.

I am spoiled with these low monthly payments, but I've been waiting for iPhone 5 for some time. If I jump back into a Smartphone it'll be it.

No luck just getting an iphone 4, or 3? Or a pre owned iphone 4? Or even something like a galaxy nexus? I can buy one out right for $380 AUD. I used to have a dumb phone for many years but once you switch to a smart phone you can never go back.

Whip out your Mercedes keys the next time people look at you that way.

Nobody can beat Nokia when it comes to cheap phones. They are indestructible.

You get what you pay for really, the iphone 5 will not be cheap, that is for sure.

Hahaha, well said. I always make that same joke. It's funny, these days "Phones", iPads, etc. are like the new cars. Me? I'm old fashioned, I'll skimp on all that stuff if I have to, to keep that Benz key. :D

It's interesting, in this day and age, you see people will no jobs, low income, etc., but $120+ a month Smartphone bills. Hey, it's still cheaper than fronting a high car bill to look cool.

Yeah, I've had great experiences with Nokia and LG dumbphones, they might not be the most refined and slick products, but they will run forever.

Nearly everyone in my office, even the unpaid interns, have iPhone 4s and the latest iPads, often concurrently.

The current plans are just horrendous. I too have been spoiled by a very low monthly payment by the fourth carrier in the US after I decided to retire my AT&T service. It will be extremely hard to justify going back from mid-two-digits to three digits - may even just spring full price and just port my sim (cut it) with unlimited data. The extra dough is much better spend on a car that gives me some comfort on my daily 35 mile commute.

Same here. Last time I checked, through ATT, with a text plan and data plan, an iPhone or any higher end Smartphone is gonna be well over $100 a month. That's just nuts. You can get a Jetta or something for that! Though, I do pay $70 a month already for unlimited text and 5MB's a month of data usage, so it's not like I'm paying peanuts, but I am saving a good $40+ a month.

I've heard some services have better plans than ATT. I guess I'll find out soon enough.

What kind of phone plan are you guys on at the moment? I bought my phone outright for $600, and I sign up for a cheap phone plan, $15 a month, for $350 call and 1GB data limit.

Alright, I am joining the party a little bit late but I'd argue right on time for the revealing of the iphone 5 next week.

There was an interesting note about exterior advertising in Yerba Buena:

The icons being stretched seems to suggest that the iPhone will follow through with the leaked images we have seen about a taller, not wider, iPhone 5.

Im really super excited! :)
I have such high hopes for the iphone5!

First of all, I hope for a better battery time. They just have to improve the iphone 4/4s battery time.
2nd, I hope for a biger screen (and by that, directly little bigger keys on the keyboard, for us with big hands), and also Siri in more languages.

You know, I am not that excited for this iPhone if the leaked photos are true, which I believe they are considering how many people have posted pictures of the phone. My issue is not agreeing with Apple's approach in only making it taller, it looks weird. Perhaps they will convince me otherwise and to be honest I will probably end up buying it. With the iPhone 4 being such a great phone and the 4s solidifying that, I am not sure how much more the new iphone can improve on it but we will see.

I hope the new Iphone got a Card slot for a microSD card. If it doenst, its a big no for me. Then I'll get a Galaxy III.

From all indications in the tech blogs, the 5 will have a nano-SIM card, slightly smaller than the current micro-SIM from the 4/4s.

I am considering purchasing the phone outright for $650 and use it with a $50 unlimited data, 1500 minutes and texts from T-Mobile, which currently appears to be the best deal I have seen in the market. Currently, under this plan, only first 100mb are at so-called 4g speeds, but from Sept.12 on, T-mobile has said throttling goes away. So, with a factory unlocked iPhone 5 and the likelihood that the phone will "fit" T-Mobile's brand of 4G (at least 3G for sure) I think this will be a match made in heaven.

Anyone "Apple" Knowledgeable (Even though nothing will be official until the 12th)-

Will the iOS6 update be available after the iPhone release?
Is it more likely that the iPhone will be taller or will it offer at least a 4 inch screen?
Will it run on 4G?

I'm sure IOS 6 will be available at least soon after, but not sure about that one.

It will definitely be a 4" screen, however, what remains to be seen is if it will be wider. So far, if rumors are correct, it will have a taller screen, but might be a similar width. I think they're doing this to keep the iPhone's form factor more "usable" and easy-for-all, as most of its competitors get so huge that carry-able qualities for some people might be an issue.

Apparently it will run on 4G. I think 4G is kind of a hoax especially to the average user who just gets their battery drained by it, and considering most people can't even reap the benefits of it, but if Apple is planning on signing a deal with China Mobile finally with the iPhone 5 ($$$$$$$$$$), then I understand that they'll need it.

I'm looking forward to the update for my iPad and iPhone (if I don't get the 5). I keep hearing that Apple will have another release (iPad Mini) is late September or early October so I wasn't sure how long it would be until the iOS6 release.
