Cooper First Spy Shots : 2013 MINI Cooper

BMW doesn't need to change the hood. Put hood airbag or pop up hood.
Sounds like excuse for another 1er.

This MINI is not shaping up as nicely as it should.

I read a comment by Gabriel on motoringfile.com that the long nose was a good camo. I hope this is true.
Regarding the interior I don't mind loosing the central speedo. I likes rhe R53 wirh navi, then you got both speedo and revs mounted int the steerin column.
The steering wheel in these pictures is just camo, its a BMW wheel.

The all new MK3 MINI family will encompass a more distinctive range of models thanks to its versatile new platform say BMW insiders. The new "UKL1" platform has been designed to accomodate two wheelbases, two widths, and at least two different seating heights, according to a senior source.
Todays MINI line-up has been based on one basic platform, which has been stretched to create the Clubman and Countryman. The lack of dimensional flexibility, say insiders, resulted in the rather unusual proportions of the Country/Clubman.
The all new MINI 3 line-up is expected to go on sale next autumn. The new MINI hatchback ( F56 ) will be revealed first, followed by the new Clubman ( F55 ), Convertible ( F57 ) and Countryman ( F60 ).
The new Countryman will get the UKL1's higher seating position, making it a more-convincing baby-SUV, and less like todays jacked-up hatchback.
The Clubman will take advantage of the longer wheelbase, but lower seating position. Thats because the second-generation model is being reinvented as something of a sports estate, and might lose the single rear "Clubdoor".
One confirmed additional model -nicknamed the Traveller- will be similar to the BMW Concept Active Tourer. It will use the wider tracks, longer wheelbase and higher seating position.
The new tubocharged 3 Cylinder engine is due to be used for all MINI models except the most powerful Cooper S, and JCW models, which will get a closely related new four cylinder.
The most powerful three cylinder will get 200 bhp and 198lb ft. The entry level 120 bhp/132lb ft petrol version should return sub-100g/km in a 3 door MINI. An entry level, 78 bhp/165lb ft diesel engine could be used in an ultra frugal MINI hatch.
The ZF 8-speed automatic transmission will be an option for the MINI, and BMW insiders expect it to take an increasingly large share of MINI sales. The same trend is already being seen in sales of the new 1-Series.
Four-wheel drive is also an option on the new platform, and sources say the company expects demand for AWD to grow markedly across all BMW and MINI models.

The next MINI gets practical aswell as profitable.
Demand for practical MINI's is growing hence why the MINI Countryman is globally the best selling MINI model as well as the most profitable MINI model.
The 5dr will expand the options for the customer who does not want a crossover and will make the next MINI more practical for those with the need for flexibility due to family commitments etc.
More practical MINI's are on the way including the BMW Active Tourer based MINI Traveller (nee SPACEBOX) and the MINI Activity Tourer ( a more practical PACEMAN) , even a four door sedan MINI is considered in response to increasing global markets for MINI products.

This five dr. MINI also gives a preview of the upcoming BMW City compactive which will also feature as a 3dr and 5dr aimed at the Audi A1. As a combined family BMW are looking at around 600,000 units annually of BMW/MINI UKL products by 2020. The next MINI codenamed F56 will premiere next summer just before the World premiere at the IAA in September.
A concept MINI model will show the look of the new MINI at Geneva in March and will indeed become a future production model. The first BMW bodied city cars will be seen soon as they begin winter testing , drivetrains etc are currently undergoing evaluation in MINI mules. The MINI prototypes are extensively covered in disguise with the front end of the MINI R56 taped on the front of the prototypes in order to prolong the car.

The BMW city car could be the first modern BMW to use a name rather than a number although no decision is taken as yet. Titles in the running include "Compact , Compactive , Urbanic and even Metro, although these could eventually be used as model lines for the baby BMW.

And that's supposed to be the regular MINI hatch in 5dr form?

I have to admit I'm not too happy with my Countryman, the compromises MINI made turing what should have been a standard 5 door hatch into an SUV have made it a horrible hard riding twitchy pig of a car, but I love my MINI's I've had 4, if the standard 5 door looks like the car above it will be bye bye Countryman. I also hope they improve the interior quality, for a somewhat premium car it's not good, my assistants Kia looks and feels more upmarket.

The headlights are getting to big IMO. Just like the Korean cars of which the headlamps make up 70%:D of the total front-end design. Is it cost saving or what?

Scott27 > rumors That mini Will present a 5 doors concept this week ? Could it be possible ? ;)

They are holding a global MINI dealer event primarily for the MINI PACEMAN launch but they will be previewing the new MINI F56 for the dealers. A new MINI Concept will be shown in Geneva previewing the next MINI in styling and model progression.

MINI

Mini (stylized as MINI) is a British automotive brand founded in 1969, owned by German BMW since 2000, and used by them for a range of small cars assembled in the United Kingdom, Austria, and the Netherlands. The word Mini has been used in car model names since 1959, and in 1969 it became a brand in its own right when the name "Mini" replaced the separate "Austin Mini" and "Morris Mini" car model names.
