X7 BMW X7: Spy Pics & Info

The BMW X7 is a full-size luxury crossover sport utility vehicle manufactured by BMW. It is BMW's largest and second most expensive SUV in its line-up. The X7 was first announced by BMW in March 2014. It was officially unveiled on October 17, 2018, with pre-orders being taken online. The X7 has been available at dealers since March 2019.

Differences I can see thus far is that the X7 seems to have what appears to be two ignition buttons and the under the dash around the radio controls the X7 seems to have leather and not soft plastics. Seems like the focus will be quality over the X5’s interior.

The X7 interior we see in these spy shots is the optional FULL merino leather interior. The "base/entry-level" X7 interior will be very similar to the extended leather X5 interior in terms of materials used and their placement.:sneaky:

It's a shame that the interior of X5 and X7 are identical, apart from a slab of extra leather here and there. A little effort to separate the interiors would have gone a long way. It's a bit too obvious that the X7 is just an LWB X5 wo...
Its really disappointing to see this as the X7 is supposed to represent the top line luxury SUV from BMW, but is doing the same mistake as Mercedes has done with the GLS by using an identical interior to a lower mid sized SUV model with just a few changed trim materials. They want to save costs but it would have been nice to see something unique to the X7.

Problem with the GLS is that it was based on the cheap and boring lackluster interior of the previous GLE. Had it been based on the S class it would done much better. The difference with the X7 is that it’s based on one of arguably the best interiors to come out in 2018 and the best interior in the BMW line up the.... X5. Sure I would have loved some uniqueness between the X5 and X7, but unlike the GLS this is getting the best interior BMW has to offer, currently. The interior in the X5 belongs to a flagship and I do think the finer details in the X7 will make a difference. The interior in the X5 bests that of even the 7er IMO.

The captain's seats (as we say in the U.S.) in the second row look so funny to me, as they're quite close together. Used to seeing this:

or this (Lincoln Navigator):

I totally agree. Really bizarre. Having both arm rests attached further reduces this already compromised passageway to the third row bench.

A bit of a head scratcher to me

I hear you but bare in mind that full sized 3 row SUVs like the X7 and GLS are not the ultimate luxury car in many markets. Compared with the X5, GLE and Cayenne they are too big and due to their shape lack style compared with the full fat Range Rover.

Very true they not the ultimate luxury cars in many markets especially those that will rather drive saloons like S-class and 7 series, but mainly aimed at the US where big 7 seaters SUVs are what most families aspire too. I personally think they too big and cumbersome to drive, especially in the parking lot and trying to negotiate a quick 3 point turn. I would rather be driving an X5 or GLE. At the moment I am driving a 5.18m (L) x 2.05m (w) x 1.89m (H) Chev Tahoe, that makes a GLS look like a sports car cause the Merc is much lower and narrower and the Tahoe is a very cumbersome car to drive around town even through the interior is huge inside.

In general it's so weird seeing a BMW with the same 2+2+2 configuration of our big phat SUVs like the Escalade, Tahoe, QX80, and Navigator.

Yeah the Tahoe is no joke. Neither is the discontinued Excursion.

One of the lucky few who saw the pre view of the X7 behind closed doors

CBBMWNA

“I went to a private showing of the X7 (closed door, stripped of my belongings before I went in...)

Pre-production model, but gorgeous SAV. Expect new X5 but on steroids. 22 way adjustable seats in front with heated and cooled captains chairs in the second row. Three individual moonroofs per row of seats, 21 and 22 inch wheels options. Ambient lighting and wood trim options everywhere with stitched leather door panels. All seats are power to move, fold, etc. Third row was roomier than expected, as I am 6'3" and I had no trouble fitting. Third row has their own surround speakers and climate controls. To me the kidneys on the front didn't look that out of place compared to photos. Front end is very sharp and masculine. Not to mention laser lights as an option. (!) Extremely livable, was a beauty! Can't wait to see them in my showroom.”

“Me too for the preview. A very dark blue with dark tan seats. Beautiful interior. Seats were super comfortable. Large Grill did not grow on me, in person. More presence than X5, and looks larger--especially in height. Agree on the space behind the third row, but more knee room in second row than X5--I think that is where the extra length went. This is truly a Limo, except for the climb up when getting in the vehicle. For the Limo market, it needs a kneeling suspension when stopped. It'll be a big hit in China, if a step ladder is included. Extra width is apparent on the inside, but I never felt that my X5 was too narrow. This thing is so wide that it will feel like an Escalade in the parking lot. I suspect it will rob a LOT of 7-series and hi-spec X5 sales.”

Unless you mean access to the 3rd row when the doors are closed and/or the vehicle is in motion, the passageway to the 3rd row is via the outer side (the side next to the door) of the 2 middle "captains seats". They slide & tilt forward electronically to give you access to the 3rd row.

BTW, these 2 middle row "captains seats" in the X7 are the very same seats used on the new 8-series coupe for the driver & front passenger...only difference in the X7 is that they are slightly wider, have an adjustable attached armrest and are fitted with fewer electronic adjustment options.

Yes, every vehicle with this seat setup has an easy entry/exit feature where the seats maneuver out of the way. In practice, people (particularly kids) use the path in between the seats regardless because its much quicker and easier. Hutch and I will be far from the only people that will note this execution as being a bit of an oddity.

Yeah I was referring to being able to walk between the captains seats for access to third row when entering (or leaving) the vehicle. However good the tilt/slide mechanism is on each of the seats, it’s nice being able to forego that entirely and just walk between the seats. It’s much easier for children, especially

I believe this is to avoid rear wheel arch for the second row. This will make second row slide further back and make it fully recline. The system is used in several MPV.

This interior would also look fantastic in next generation of 5- and 7-series.

Won’t the LCI of these cars particularly the 7er have this new interior or at least some part of it? Digital cockpit , climate controls etc? Will see.

This interior definitely belongs in a flagship.

I guess we should call them the Love Birds Seats, since passengers will be close enough to hold hand. The armrests will really impact the pass-through space to the third row.

that does make sense. but with this vehicle i would think they'd prioritize that pass through over being able to slide the seat front and back.

LCI 5 and 7 won't have new climate buttons. It would require redesigning the entire dashboard.
