X3/X4 BMW X3 (G01) - Spy Pics & Info

The BMW X3 is an SUV manufactured by BMW since 2003, based on the BMW 3 Series platform. Now in its fourth generation, BMW markets the car as a Sports Activity Vehicle, the company's proprietary descriptor for its X-line luxury vehicles. The BMW X4 is a compact luxury crossover SUV manufactured by BMW since 2014. The X4 is widely considered as a "coupé" version of the X3, trading its practicality with a sloping rear roof which offers a sportier styling. BMW has indicated 2025 will be the X4's final model year.
Well, it looks like the G11 interior will be the basis of the 5er and the X3, and probably the rest of the upper line up. Same buttons, same vents and probably very similar trim insertion across the dash. The speedos will probably keep being updated with each new model that arrives.

Looks good!

True. I consider the X3 part of the 3-series family the same way the GLC is an extension of the C-Class. Likewise with the X5 and Q7, they will share interiors with their sedan counter parts.

Yep but my point is, with the F series, the 7er influence reached up to the 5 Series level. And the 3er shared the interior with the 1er. With the likely swith to the FWD platform for the next 1er, it makes sense that the G11 interior style reaches up to the 3er level.

It is basically what MB does.

2017 BMW X3 G01: Interior photo shows speedometer display and more

When the new BMW X3 goes on sale in 2017, it will encounter a strong competition in an increasingly competitive segment. The driving dynamics and exterior design have always been a selling point for the X3 family, but the interior somewhat lacked that premium feel many customers requested. BMW seems to have learned a lesson here and the new X3 is likely to be not only technologically advanced, but also more luxurious.

These spy photos of a G01 X3 prototype reveal many details of the interior design which have been previously carefully covered by testing engineers.

Just like virtually all the other BMW models of the recent past, the third generation of the BMW X3 features a detached infotainment display, which is carried out – most likely – just like the new 7 Series with a touchscreen. The instrument cluster of the X3 prototypes present a partly digital display, however the outer areas of the speedometer and tachometer are carried out analogously. It can be assumed that we see here is the standard speedometer variant – a surcharge will be expected for a fully digital version.

Another exciting detail is the iDrive Controller on the center console, which appears to be of a significantly higher quality than the previous generation. The buttons around the controller are wrapped with a metal surface – the plastic look of most current models is thus clearly sent into retirement. It is likely that the iDrive controller shown here is only offered in conjunction with the Professional Navigation Syste

A new multifunction steering wheel with metal buttons makes its way into the G01 X3 while the control panel of the automatic climate control seems to be similar as the one in the 7 Series with small touch surfaces that take the place of classical buttons.

Overall it can be said that the interior of the BMW X3 G01 is significantly more premium than the current model. This claim is also underlined by the expanded range of assistance and intelligent systems – such as the cross-traffic detection and the ability of semi-autonomous driving.

The third-generation BMW X3 is due out in 2017 and it’s under the codename G01 and on the new rear-wheel drive platform. The new, flexible modular system offers more interior space and a redesigned seating system also ensures higher variability and greater comfort. Sources say the G01 X3 is about 100 kg lighter than the F25 X3.

The 2017 X3 will follow the design lines of the F15 BMW X5 and F16 BMW X6, with the headlights transition into the kidney grille, a more upright “nose” and round squared shapes that give the car a muscular look. But our sources say the X3 is the first BMW to showcase the new design language.

For the first time, BMW will offer an extended wheelbase for the X3, likely catering to markets like China.

There is too much identifiable from the X1. The render is possibly based on the X1.
The ideas are there but the execution is wrong. Someone has described the new facia but they have applied it wrong. The idea is similar to the X2 Render but less Lincoln.

Excellent as always Palbay. There is also something else expected soon @ Spartanburg. After its debut in Sweden.

BMW is testing the upcoming 2017 X3 in winter conditions. Our latest spyshots reveal the production body being driven in Sweden’s harsh cold season.

This time, the heavily camouflaged car features several elements that could be production ready. First of all, the front lights aren’t generic anymore and seem to be the final versions, while the rear lights are still fake, but the back end of the car does show a new bumper.

Unfortunately for curious eyes, they are hidden under the strong camo normally used by the BMW Group. That said, the deceiving camouflage doesn't manage to hide the increased size of the X3’s body. The front bumper of the car in question is also a new design and might end up on the production version of the 2017 BMW X3.

The pre-production prototype being tested also has a bigger front grille than the one seen on previous mules, and the entire car looks much larger than the current X3. The rear wheels of the vehicle shown in the images provided to us by our collaborating spy photographers have a different stance than the ones found on a regular, current-generation BMW X3. The difference comes from the future BMW X3 platform choice.

According to insider information, the upcoming BMW X3 will make use of the new CLAR platform. This modular platform will be shared with the future 3 Series, the current 7 Series, and several other models based on a rear-wheel-drive architecture. Thanks to CLAR, the BMW X3 will lose up to 100 kg of weight when compared to the current generation.

We already know that BMW plans to offer plug-in hybrid variants of the upcoming 2017 X3, but the car is also expected to get an actual M version. This would make it the smallest SUV to be unleashed by the M division. The first ever X3 M could be launched as late as 2018 or even 2019. Better late than never, right?

I'd like to know what some car spyers will tell now with these shots from the prototype from new X3 and with a lot of shots from the mule catch until today....

Those front lights look nothing like the last AB render. It looks like an evolution of the new X1 front lights.

In fact, the car looks like an evolved version of the current one in terms of proportions, with a touch of X5 on the rear, and the front and rear ends inspired by the new X1.

Remember these are temporary light fixtures covered up with clear plastic to provide durability whilst testing in different weather conditions. So not exactly representative of the actual unit.
Also like the 7er and the 5er there are additional bonnet edges bolted on to disguise the headlight cut-out on the bonnet and at the corner of the front wing. The AB render shows the ideas but executes them incorrectly especially at the front grille where there is a more cohesive connection to how the headlights now join the grille but leaving the three dimensional corners of the grille above and below the headlights.

Remember the grille at the bonnet line has cut out outline so it is thicker at the edges.

Interesting. It seems them BMW has learned a few tricks from VW, which has integrated the lights into the grille pretty good IMO.

If you look at the current BMW X5 you see the beginning of the transition and journey to the new angular appearance of the BMW X3.
The new X1 shows the next stage of transition as you can see lines are becoming more angular, technical and less organic especially at the front and rear of the vehicle.

The new X3 brings in a more angular design language it will layout the visual path for the next cycle of BMW X models starting with the first cycles of the BMW X2 and BMW X7.
