X3/X4 BMW X3 (G01) - Spy Pics & Info

The BMW X3 is an SUV manufactured by BMW since 2003, based on the BMW 3 Series platform. Now in its fourth generation, BMW markets the car as a Sports Activity Vehicle, the company's proprietary descriptor for its X-line luxury vehicles. The BMW X4 is a compact luxury crossover SUV manufactured by BMW since 2014. The X4 is widely considered as a "coupé" version of the X3, trading its practicality with a sloping rear roof which offers a sportier styling. BMW has indicated 2025 will be the X4's final model year.
The next X4 needs major change. The current one is the least attractive X model. Looks almost like a GT from some angles.

Also the X6, it's less good as the first gen to me. The X coupe idea needs some thinking (I don't like the GLE coupe either btw).

Agree. I do dislike the X4. The new X6 is certanly worse looking than the first one. I was never a fan of the overall shape, but that front end and the magnificent rear made the model quite Batman looking. That has been lost on the new model.

Good thing M is on a roll when it comes to design and the X6M saves the day badly.

The X3/X4 grows a few inches in the wheelbase so those few inches give slight freedom to lower the roof slightly.
The problem is when you decrease platforms from the larger X6, the wheelbases decrease meaning that there are limits to lowering the roof because each model is being condensed.
This is why F39 the X2 has gone for a more upright interpretation as the original idea meant the roof would be taller giving it an identity like the SangYong SUV Coupe.
Should there be an X8? Then it would look more like a sedan at the rear.
If you look at the Mercedes GLC Coupe it is having the same issues with a higher roofline than the GLE Coupe. But when BMW and Mercedes-Benz both presented the X4 and GLC Coupe as concepts. BMW kept the X4 realistic whereas Mercedes shrunk the roofline which has not been implemented for production.

I agree.
The other turn-off with the X4 is the lack of space for the spare tyre.
That is an absolute no-no for me. Funny thing is there is space for the spare tyre in the X3.
Rear and front head room is terrible as well.
It needs to sit lower.

This will also spawn the next BMW X4 which will arrive in early 2018.
And X4 will be all-new as the F16 X6 introduced a year after the X5. Not being launched halfway through a cycle like the first X6,current X4 and the Mercedes-Benz GLE Coupe.

Much better solution IMO. The X4/GLE are going to be stuck with dated interiors by the time they reach the end of their life cycles (GLE coupe especially).

Far less dated than some in the MB lineup though, for what it's worth...

Yip - interior design from late 2000's just hasn't been able to keep up with the pace of technology design. W212 feels ARCHAIC!

I'd disagree. There's something extremely teutonic and solid about the W212F's interior. The same go with the SL's--other than the misaligned screen, I do think it screams quality and MB. IMO much better than most of the interior designs MB offers...which are much more messy and unfocused.

I'm referring to technology design - not quality. I agree the W212F interior is very solid. But it feels a full generation behind F10 and is the same generation.

That´s because the F10/F01 interior was fantastic when it debuted, and still looks very good. The X3 one never looked to good. And now, 5 years after, it looks even worse.

But I don´t think is anything dramatic. A few hours ago I spotted a couple of X3s on the road and the car still looks good IMO.

The "problem" with X3 / X4 interior is the pitch was about making it look & feel "durable". It was all about the BMW intent to make X3 the most "utilitarian" SAV in the portfolio. But those days are now over. Especially with the X3 family being expanded to cater even more tastes & needs & desires (eg X4 etc). "Utalitarian" X4 with "durable" interior doesn't make much sense ... don't you think? The upcoming Mk3 X3 family will address this issue.

Black panel tech ? Will they finally give it a proper interior instead of throwing whatever is left from the parts bin

Well, it looks like the G11 interior will be the basis of the 5er and the X3, and probably the rest of the upper line up. Same buttons, same vents and probably very similar trim insertion across the dash. The speedos will probably keep being updated with each new model that arrives.

Looks good!
