M1 BMW M1 Hommage Concept

The BMW M1 (model code E26) is a mid-engined sports car produced by German automotive manufacturer BMW from 1978 until 1981. In the late 1970s, Italian automobile manufacturer Lamborghini entered into an agreement with BMW to build a production racing car in sufficient quantity for homologation, but conflicts arose that prompted BMW to produce the car themselves. The resulting car was sold to the public, from 1978 until 1981, as the BMW M1. It was the first mid-engine BMW automobile to be mass-produced; the second was the i8 plug-in hybrid sports car. This year's Concorso d'Eleganza at Villa d'Este has its public day tomorrow, which is when the world will presumably get its first look at the new BMW M1 concept, a stunning, modern take on Munich's original supercar that is part of Bimmer's 30th anniversary celebration of the classic machine. The private exhibition took place today, however, and the guys at Asphalte.ch -- they were the first with live shots of the Lamborghini LP560-4 earlier this year -- have once again scored a coup, snapping the new, copper-colored M1 concept in all its glory, both alone and alongside its forebears. We expect to have a lot more on this car tomorrow (assuming a press kit will be released sometime overnight), but for now, head to Asphalte.ch to see more shots of the car under the lights. Hey BMW, just pull the trigger and greenlight a production version already, because this thing is awesome.

Re: Sneak Peek! BMW M1 Concept at Villa d'Este

Will this be an official BMW concept car? I am not a fan of it, there are still too many retro touches

Re: Sneak Peek! BMW M1 Concept at Villa d'Este

Looks great except for the wheels and the Chevy headlight design...

What is the purpose of the concept. Is it a look at a future model???

Re: Sneak Peek! BMW M1 Concept at Villa d'Este

wierd but cool

Re: Sneak Peek! BMW M1 Concept at Villa d'Este

Cool. :usa7uh:
Looks very American.

Re: Sneak Peek! BMW M1 Concept at Villa d'Este

Wheels look like they come from Escalade.

Re: Sneak Peek! BMW M1 Concept at Villa d'Este

Weird and Ugly. Looks like an unresolved kit-car with a whacky paint job.

Re: Sneak Peek! BMW M1 Concept at Villa d'Este

A very interesting yet pleasant surprise!

Must be like the Mille Migle Concept of 2006.

Re: Sneak Peek! BMW M1 Concept at Villa d'Este

Is it official or a student work ?

Re: Sneak Peek! BMW M1 Concept at Villa d'Este

Yawn! A complete bore, very uninspiring. What happened to "forward not backwards"??? Way too much retro.

Re: Sneak Peek! BMW M1 Concept at Villa d'Este

its Beutiful... I like it.. the details are so nice..

Re: Sneak Peek! BMW M1 Concept at Villa d'Este

It's official BMW concept :)

It is.

But it's just an "anniversary concept" - just like BMW Mille Miglia 2006 Coupe Concept was. Presented for Villa d'Este exhibition.

It's a project of BMW Mobile Tradition department - just like MM 2006 was.

The car is a homage to the original M1 (same case with MM 2006 Concept vs the original Mille Miglia coupe) - therefore the official car title is BMW M1 Hommage. As celebration of 30th anniversary of the original M1.

:t-cheers:

BMW M

BMW M GmbH, formerly known as BMW Motorsport GmbH, is a subsidiary of BMW AG that manufactures high-performance luxury cars. BMW M ("M" for "motorsport") was initially created to facilitate BMW's racing program, which was very successful in the 1960s and 1970s. As time passed, BMW M began to supplement BMW's vehicle portfolio with specially modified higher trim models, for which they are now most known by the general public. These M-badged cars traditionally include modified engines, transmissions, suspensions, interior trims, aerodynamics, and exterior modifications to set them apart from their counterparts. All M models are tested and tuned at BMW's private facility at the Nürburgring racing circuit in Germany.
