5 Series (G30/G31/G38) BMW 5 Series (G30/31/32) Spy Pics & Info Discussion

The BMW G30/G31/G38 is the seventh generation of the 5 Series. Officially announced in October 2016, sales began in February 2017. Production years: November 2016-2023. Body styles included: 4-door sedan/saloon (G30), 5-door wagon/estate (G31), and 4-door long-wheelbase saloon (G38).
I like it. Predictable, but that's the cool thing. Just not a fan of the exhaust tips...

BMW just went full Mercedes with those :/

A short comparison F10 - G30 - G11.

I'll wait final judgment until we get better pics, but I prefer F10's use of shiny black plastic in the interior vs. the G30's.

The new BMW 5er is simply gorgeous. It has a mouth-watering design and stunning proportions. Its silhouette is visibly slimmer compared to the F10 generation, which leads to more expressive dynamism and a more balanced appearance. However, the new G30 retains the brand's hallmark baroque design, with intricate detailing and complex surfacing, both inside and outside.

The evolution of the hockey stick is simply mindblowing to me, it looks like a piece of fine modern art with the illusion created by the subsequent lines that make the absent stick look like it would be there. I also admire the sporty elegance of the new front end with its visually thinner headlights, that solve the sort of bulkiness that the previous generation had.

The M Sport Package has been harmoniously evolved from the 7er - in fact, I consider it more attractive due to the different design element that surrounds the fog lights. The rear end is no surprise for me - is a continuation of the F10 exercise, with its carved tailgate which looks as if the car was intentionately hit and pressed on its back. The bigger rear lamps create a distinctive signature which makes this new BMW highly sexy to look at from behind.

The dashboard is dead beautiful. Although it has a lot to borrow from the 7er, it also exhibits its own distinct personality. I have always enjoyed this classic approach BMW has when it comes to interiors. Too much modern day digitalism ruins the whole purpose of luxury. In the new 5er, classic cues are blended harmoniously with modern technologies and I get the feeling that the dashboard is built around the driver (which is good, as we are talking about the Ultimate Driving Machine brand). It is impressive how the lines seem to embrace the driver. For me, this is the best interior exercise in the segment.

The new BMW 5er may not be the perfect car, but it certainly is the best limousine in the business/executive class.

With all the technological advances to powertrain management and dynamics (which we'll read about in the official press kit), the G30 will ensure top class driving in typical BMW style. Can't wait to get my hands on one!

Kudos to BMW! Well done for this mindblowing achievement!

P.S.: It remains to be seen whether the standard design package is as desirable as the M Sport Package, which, for the moment, looks to be a must for the new BMW 5er.

In some ways, the new G30 creates a perspective over the past designs. To me, it brings back good memories of its iconic E34 and E39 ancestors.

Front looks very nice. Im not sure about rear, taillights looks too big. But I will reserve judgement until I see it in flesh. I had invitation to see it last week behind close doors, but I was away and I couldn't attend.

For example I didn't like new 7er when I saw it on leaked pictures, but today when I see it on road it looks great IMO. I like front of 5er much more than I liked 7er on first photos, so I guess I will like new 5.

IMO those comparisons 5er vs E are useless, because both are "bosses" in own segment:

- 5er is sportier, with better driving dynamic and looks sportier, younger people prefers it, including me.
- E class is classier, more business car, very comfortable and with luxury interior. Older people prefers it.

the real win for bmw and its enthusiasts would be if the new g30 drives like a proper bmw. the design looks good..power trains and gearbox as ever should be good..hope it handles and drives like the bmws which made the brand today.

HVAC area is identical too. It only looks different because the 5er is in a shiny black background, and the G11 the silver background.
And of course the shifter and iDrive knob. And the steering wheel is virtually the same, only without the metal buttons.

Overall, I much prefer the 5er interior. And we haven't even seen a nice interior with alu instead of wood and without the boring beige...

Judging on basis of the low quality pics, it looks as a real BMW 5er; well done in this department. Interior is quite an improvement compared to it's predecessor. The taillights seem to be a bit too large, for my personal taste. Another thing. It's been a long time since I liked to exterior design of the 7er more than that of the 5er. It seems to be the case again in this generation, but hold final verdict on this, until I see the car irl.

Yes, I agree with you, but there are certain details that are different in HVAC compartment of the 5er compared to the 7er. Difference, even though minimal, is a difference. :)

I pretty much like this type of classy beige tone of the leather (which is somehow hallmark to BMW) with the wood trim and the metal surfaces in an M Sport Package layout.

But do you mean difference in materials used (shiny black vs alu)? Because it honestly is identical for the rest.

Definitely hallmark BMW. But like @SKY said earlier, imagine this in black with alu parts :icondrool
All black would be amazing in combination with the black of the dash.

I believe the side profile will be the best surprisse when we see it IRL. The second hoff kink, the sharper lower flanks, the double shoulder line, and the raised rear end (at least looks raised to me) will make a huge difference compared to the F10 (which had a side profile dominated only by the shoulder line).

Yes, that one too. Specifically, there is the positioning of the buttons in between the air vents, the layout that surrounds them and vents, the rotary controllers for the degree of openness, even some buttons on the HVAC main control unit appear to be different design-wise.
