5 Series (G30/G31/G38) BMW 5 Series (G30/31/32) Spy Pics & Info Discussion

The BMW G30/G31/G38 is the seventh generation of the 5 Series. Officially announced in October 2016, sales began in February 2017. Production years: November 2016-2023. Body styles included: 4-door sedan/saloon (G30), 5-door wagon/estate (G31), and 4-door long-wheelbase saloon (G38).
For the last time: No E-Class in the 5er thread.

I don't want to come in this thread and find more E-Class stuff than 5er. Enough is enough guys.

PS. I've already started thread-banning people and deleting posts.

Yes, that one too. Specifically, there is the positioning of the buttons and between the air vents, the layout that surrounds them, the rotary controllers for the degree of openness, even some buttons on the HVAC main control unit appear to be different design-wise.

I was talking about the main control unit, and the one above it for the media player. Those two main units are identical in the 7er and 5er. Zero difference other than materials.
And that can be said for more control units, the steering wheel, iDrive screen, light switches, etc. It's all identical.

Yes, it would be nice if the shiny black parts are made of carbon on the M5, but I am not getting my hopes up on that one sadly.

I don't understand car designers current obsession with shiny glossy black plastic trim, they are a dust magnet and they get tiny scratches very easily, and these trim feels cheap.

Because it looks expensive like high gloss wood trim, but it's not expensive.

I fear that in most cases it is not designers' obsession but a fetish of the ones overseeing the costs. Coarsening ('Entfeinerung') is the magic word here, and it's one of the reasons why some designs look great when green-lighted or clinicked (because hand-made, very sophisticated clays are shown), but don't really work when translated to series production. Was imo very striking with the E60 interior.

Does anyone notice if the dash is more dirver oriented here in the G30 than in the G11?

Btw, @Busty do you know if there is another upcoming interior in the segment as good looking as this one? I am thinking in the A6, A7 or even the long rumored Pajun.

I tend to hate fanboys wars so, if this question is problematic I will edit the post ASAP.

Anyone care to know how much Mercedes and BMW charge for the high gloss piano black wood trim?:)

In my country it's a small 600 Euros in F10 5er.

Sorry, misunderstandable. My bad.
I meant coarsening in general: seams, edges, surfaces, coating etc.

I see, thanks.
I do think the G30 looks very modern in this aspect. The whole lower dash for example appears to the eye to be a solid one-piece, completely seamless.

Seen the cars this morning in the Atrium. Do not worry about shiny black plastic its a very high quality interior.
You get the aluminium switchgear facings when you upgrade to the luxury line.
540i is the top line model for just now.

Luxury line will be like the G11 then, in terms of dashboard buttons, steering wheel buttons, etc?

I do hope there's an option to choose an M pack WITH the alu bits and pieces. Would I think be very nice in combo with a dark interior and aluminum trim.

So the reveal is tomorrow. Will there be a video presentation somewhere on the net or are they just going to release photos and info randomly sometime tomorrow?

I think having the 5er without the alu buttons is a good way of differentiating the interior from the G11 one. I wouldn´t mind if not even the luxury line had it as an option.
