These are both very beautiful cars and actually compliment each other greatly.

The E is graceful, elegant and pure. The 5 is athletic, taught and detailed.

If BMW has nailed the ride and handling compromise, the E will have to play number 2 until the new engines arrive.

Well from my perspective, the G30 is too close to the F10 but still a good looking car. The W213 on the other hand has much better proportions than the W212 and therefore a bigger step designwise.

Both don't leave room for any alternatives in the segment. The Audi A6 and others will have serious problems in the next years.

I like the Ghibli a lot, it's got that Italian sensuality in its styling and the interior is well built as well although it doesn't look as great as the Germans. Certainly not in the league of the German cars for overall competence but it's a very desirable car nonetheless due to its uniqueness.

I may be in the minority, but the G30 has the Ghibli beat styling-wise.. inside and out, imo. A Ghibli, however, will attract more attention, particularly in markets where the Maserati brand is still up and coming.

Think the Ghibli looks fantastic on the outside definitely imposing and memorable, but everything else is subpar, the interior , engine and tech. It's the unwanted stepchild of the Fiat brand.

In general, there's nothing wrong with the Ghibli's interior, with the exception of the infotainment system, something I particularly don't mind, as I drive cars, not smartphones. The plastic on german cars is better, but so is the leather in the Maserati, and the metals feel great.
Is funny how german car fans dislike the Ghibli yet the german press rated it very well. You can also watch the video review by Autogefühl, where he loves the damm car

It's a freaking Maserati, yet it feels, handles and looks like a modern Chrysler 300c. It's virtually tech-less, and not just the infotainment system is lacking.

A very far cry from what I consider a Maserati, which used to be one of the most desireable (sp?) brands in the world.

I thing that Maserati has never been more desirable then now. During the 80s it was a disaster, during the 90s it started to improve and now it reaches the apex of its recent history

I know this isn't the Ghibli thread but I have to ask everybody who is writing about the Ghibli one question: who has actually driven a fully optioned (most importantly with Skyhook) MY17 Ghibli S?

Because I will tell you that that car is a gem.
Yes, tech isn't on par with the Germans. Although infotainment and ADAS wise they're close.
Yes, long distance highway capability isn't on par with the Germans.
Yes, exterior and interior build quality isn't up to the German standards (especially not Audi who are absolutely state of the art).
Yes, the diesel isn't as strong as the German competition. BiTDI, 40d or higher.
And yes, some buttons are from the FCA bin. But let's not forget that every manufacturer is doing this without exception. I.e. Aston Martin when they wrapped a Volvo key with leather for the Vantage. I won't continue to list examples because we could, and maybe should, start a thread about this topic.

Here's the big "but": once you drive it on your favorite B road you will forget about all those things. I found that the MY17 changes, as I wrote in the MY17 QP thread, make the car a valid contender in this segment. It's an option for people who want another, more emotional, less traditional choice in this segment. Driving excitement and dynamics are in my opinion best in class. Not lap times but the fun you have while you drive it.
It's also nice to valet as it isn't the tenth 5 series being parked.

89% of the purchase decisions in the luxury segments are driven by design. The Ghibli still has an unequalled presence. By that I mean an exclusive Italian elegance and aura that is different and not as vulgar as an M5 or E63 but not any less emotionally and visually appealing.
