6 Series 2017 BMW 6 Series Rumors

The BMW 6 Series is a range of grand tourers produced by BMW since 1976. It is the successor to the E9 Coupé. The first generation BMW E24 6 Series was available solely as a two-door coupé and produced from 1976 to 1989, when it was supplanted by the larger BMW 8 Series (E31). When the 6 Series nameplate was revived in 2004 for the second generation, the BMW E63/E64 6 Series, the coupé was joined by a convertible body style. The third generation F06/F12/F13 6 Series debuted in 2011 as a coupé and convertible, and a sedan variant known as the "Gran Coupé" in 2012. When the F06/F12/F13 6 Series ended production, the "Gran Coupé"/coupé/convertible models shifted into the more upmarket BMW 8 Series (G15) nameplate. The fourth generation 6 Series, the G32 6 Series, debuted in mid-2017 and is offered only as a fastback body style to complement the BMW 5 Series (G30) sedan/wagon.
Mick, I think that if your BMW dealership sees you as someone who buys an S-Class every 2 or 3 years then one could argue that a good discount is quite a good move in order to make you their customer and not MB's.

I don't know if this is common practice in your part of the world, but attracting customers with potential for a long term business relationship with a good initial discount is a tactic that I use for quite many years - and it works!

:)
Very well possible this played a role, Giannis. We in the Netherlands do business in this way as well.

Future BMW 6 or 8 Series spied as convertible for first time

This car has been caught by three differents photographers. Only one of them tells that is 6-Series Cabrio.. And is the new 6-Series.

I do slightly agree, but this was a 6er invention I believe, which was mimicked by the lambo and R8...
The soft top on the Ferrari F355 & 360/F430 Spider had similar shape but the 6-series was different with the vertical rear glass which could be retracted or not separately of the roof.

Wouldn't be surprised if they call this the 8er. Us fans care about the 6series badge heritage but they just want to group cars by numbers nowadays.
Fact is BMW has no direct competitor to the E coupe / CLS, A7, the 6er even in the cheapest form is more upmarket (and therefore more pricey) than those cars. Back then i think the 6er is suppose to sit somewhere between the CLS and the CL (now S-coupe) but that's the problem, i would feel i'm overpaying for a CLS alternative, or i would just go for a CL if i have the cash. And back then the 3er coupe was enough to deal with the CLK, but now the E coupe is a real E class, and the 4er is now up against the C coupe/A5. Now if they create the 8er to be a S-coupe equivalent class of car, the size probably wont' be too much larger than the 6er - unless we are expecting BMW to pull something spectacular off by creating a new niche there, but based on their track record in the past decade playing it so safe, i don't think they would.
In all honesty though, if the current 6er was just made a little larger with 7series features and quality, I really can imagine it being called a 8er. Just look at the 6GC, it is quite a large car and is definitely no 5series coupe.
Having said that though if there is going to be a real 5er coupe (ie smaller than the prototype we're seeing), i'm sure we would have seen it already but we haven't, so the above may be pure bs. sorry.

They need an E coupe competition - where is it?!

Natural progression of the 4-series into something larger and more luxurious could perhaps fill the void. Cars get bigger every generation, so the 2 series may grow into something the size of an old 3-series coupe (if it's not already), and the 4 series could grow into something the size of the E-Coupe... There'd still be a gap, but the further up the price range it moves, the less volume they will be missing out on. Just a thought.

Probably they rolled down the window to hide the paper with the designation on :).
The roofs completely changed if that's a 6er!
One explanation I have is that the solution with the fins was mainly implemented to achieve a fastback roofline. Since there have been advances in convertible roof geometry, this heavy and overly complex solution is not needed anymore. Also, the rear windshield did not work perfectly as a stopper.

The canvas roof looks quite taut. Almost as taut as that of the Porsche 991 Carrera series cabriolets.

Niiice.

Then there's nothing in the C-coupe / A5 segment. And drive train/chassis aside (because as everyone says buyers don't care what's inside right?), the 4er is a 3er coupe with identical interior, so it would need to move up to have a 5er alike interior to be a E-coupe competitor or else it would just appear cheap and uncompetitive.

Personally, I find that the 4 series coupe/convertible is hardly a small car. A 5 series coupe/convertible would strike me as being superfluous, especially with regard to my suspicion that the 4 series successor will grow slightly in its' dimensions. 2, 4 and 8 (or is that 6 ?) would be a sufficient 2+2 2 door variety methinks.

For shit sakes - there's nothing wrong with keeping it like it is. 3er, 4er, 5er, 6er, 7er and - for entering the dick-measuring contest with the Merc S-Class Coupe - an 8er would be just fine.
I'm hearing talk that the 5er GT (which is like a big 3er GT) is going to become a 6er, and the 6er is going to become a - aww fukkit - I've got better things to occupy my time with.
