Ford Mustang II - a sub par engine in what was supposed to have been a sports car....Awful handling, bad build quality, a lack of reliability and chassis partially shared with the one and only Ford Pinto

What would y'all say is the worst car currently in production?

hmm, that's a tough one, Martin . Ssangyong Rodius perhaps? Daihatsu Copen? Or Dodge Avenger? The Lincoln MKS maybe?
I think one of the very worst cars is a actually a "premium" offering. I can't stand the sight of it... Hint: it's a drop-top. And you look like a pompous tool driving one.

Mercedes-Benz CLA.
Nah - look the CLA's not to my taste but I'll give due and say that it's a pretty honest product. The one I have in mind is a reproachable thing - a daft exercise in brand and personal vanity - and in its final iteration it's at its most flawed. Drive it top-down around town and people point and laugh. [I kid you not.]

I have a feeling you'll say Rolls-Royce Phantom Drophead??

Nooo - that might be a vulgar display of wealth but it's certainly not a car that falls into the "worst of all time" category. No, this car's not that premium but boy is it expensive for what it is...

Down here in SA this thing is Boxster money:

It's the ultimate expression of poor judgement.

"Range Rover is pretty good at building high-sided SUVs that are good to drive – but the Evoque Convertible isn’t one of those. It’s more ungainly in the corners than it’s tin-topped sibling and doesn’t feel anything as agile - probably because of the extra 280kg added by the roof unit and its motors. The ride’s not bad, but not great, either, thanks to the 20-inch wheels. We didn’t get the opportunity to drive the Evoque Convertible off-road, but there’s no reason to suggest it’s any less accomplished than any Landie: indeed, it's probably a lot of fun with the roof down."

"But make the mistake of driving harder and it unravels. There’s body roll, tyre scrub, and any attempt to dive into a bend aggressively on the brakes has the car lurching into messy oversteer that’s only kept in check by the less than delicate stability control. Never mind the new 718 Boxster S you could have for £50k; an Audi A3 cabriolet at almost half the price would eat this thing alive."

"According to Edmund's, the 1974 base engine's 88 hp (66 kW; 89 PS) was "truly pathetic" and the optional V6's 105 hp (78 kW; 106 PS) was "underwhelming." (With the addition of mandatory catalytic converters in 1975 these outputs fell to 83 and 97 hp (72 kW) respectively.)[34] In 1976 the "standard four [-cylinder] swelled to a heady 92 hp (69 kW; 93 PS), the V6 increased to 102 hp (76 kW), and [sales were] a surprisingly stable 187,567 units—a mere 1,019 less than in '75." In 1977 the engines’ power outputs dropped again, to 89 and 93 hp (69 kW; 94 PS)respectively, and production dropped "about 18 percent to 153,117 cars."

Writers of today ignore the rave reviews of 1974–1976 models, and one even describes the Mustang II as "lamentable." The New York Times said in 2006 that defective steering, together with a fuel tank of the same design as in the Pinto, a car "forever infamous for exploding when struck in the rear," caused owners an anxiety that was "heightened by the fact that some Mustang IIs had Firestone 500 tires, notorious in the 70's for widespread failures." It continued: "Ford, not content to drag the revered Mustang name through the mud...added badges from Ghia, the venerable Italian studio that it had bought, to versions of the Mustang II with partial vinyl roofs and tacky opera windows.""

Well you asked us what is the worst car on sale today and I just told you my opinion. I expected a whole lot more from Mercedes-Benz.

Could have sworn you were talking about the Mercedes-Maybach G650 Landaulet.
I think that car has a few things going for it (i.e. the rugged G-wagen chassis, a delicious V12 engine, tremendous comfort), despite the brashness. As much as I personally hate that car, I have to admit that we cannot really consider it amongst "the very worst"
