It actually reminded me of a taller Porsche 356, with 4 doors and a hatch. I know that sounds strange, but it takes more rounded styling from the ML, rather than the box-like G/L/K models.
The grill was very vertical, as on the SLS, and it was not tall by any measure. It actually seemed lower than a B, but with more ground clearance, so that the body was more svelte.
This picture is similar to what the body looked like, but the front was much better, like I said, more SLS grill:
The CLA (4-door coupé, size C or smaller) or whatever it will be called looked good though, although the car seemed too small for all the good design that went in to it, as if a painting was forced on to a smaller canvas.
As far as I know, there will be no new A, only a new B. In any case, it will be FWD, so neither it nor the A3 can compete with the 1er based on that.
The S coupé is nearly out; at this point the disguises do not hide much, and it looks very good.
The all new S and GL are still too far out, I can not speak on that with any accuracy.
When will the S coupe be released? Detroit, Geneva, or Paris?
I will try to find out where it will be released, but it will debut the new engines for MB when it is released in Summer 2010.
Where did you get this information from? Sounds like blsht to me
Where do you get your insider info?
Obiously RWD will always be a better choice, but I mean in terms of design, I thought the B-Class was still gonna be an MPV and the A-Class a hatchback ala A3/1er/Golf.
Have you seen the new S Coupe rear? How are the reverse light integrated?
MFA is "Mercedes Frontantriebsarchitektur", which means Mercedes new front wheel drive architecture, to be used in the A/B Class.
S-class to get four-pot engine
The current Mercedes S-class will receive an eco boost with the arrival of a four-cylinder diesel version next year.
Called the 300 CDI, the new model is expected to be powered by the E250 CDI’s 201bhp turbodiesel, pushing out 384lb ft of torque.
Mercedes' R&D boss Thomas Weber admitted that downsizing the S-class diesel was an engineering challenge.
"The issue is NVH [noise, vibration and harshness]," he said.
"Getting refinement to S-class levels was difficult and we had to change engine mounts and add body stiffness".

Any word yet?
BTW Unterturkheim...have you seen MB's Detroit concept? What will it preview the CLS or the W222 S?
Even though MB is supposed to be waiting for the CL facelift to debut the new generation of engines, it seems one managed to slip through early.
The CLS Grand Edition in the UK is based on the 350CDI with a lot of extras, and special options. Another treat is the revised engine, with 272 hp and 590nm (435lb-ft) torque, a considerable increase.
This may be the next iteration of the 350, or perhaps just a special spec until the real revision is released.
