Panny Turbo S 3.5 seconds behind Lucid. And if I recall correctly, the Porsche was on sticky Cup 2 tires. The Lucid is no joke.
Yea on Cup2, it would have probably edged 918's time. Particularly impressive given, it only uses 1000HP in the hot lap mode.

5 years later and McLaren Senna is still head and shoulders above everything else in Lightnight Lap.
What's it gonna take to relegate it to P2? Valkyrie?

Yes, and AMG One, Elva, Huayra BCT/Imola, SF90 AF/XX, Revuelto, Valhalla, Jesko Attack, next GT2 RS, C8 ZR1?

There's the C8 Zora Czinger 21C but although I'm very quiet on it, because it's very quiet at the minute I want the Evija to beat everything. LOL! We'll see.

IMO, Revuelto, Elva - no chance. Imola - close, but lacking downforce. TBH, I don't think even the Jesko would be a clear favorite to beat Senna's time.
AMG One doing a lap would be only adding salt in the wound of American AMG fans, who can't have one.
Ferrari, for some reason, are not big fans of the Lightning Lap, since the last time they lent them a car (488 GTB) was in 2016. Plus, the SF90s are too heavy for this kind of track. Valhalla is also gonna be heavy, judging by their stated target.
Downforce is the key on VIR. Senna was a gamechanger in this aspect and it really shows with this test. The only cars that have moved the bar even further (that at the same time are not overweight, like Evija) are Valkyrie and Bohema.

Senna was a benchmark in terms of lap times for road legal track cars, but the game has moved on, hybrid supercars and hypercars with even more clever aero have taken over, it's just that C&D haven't got access to those yet. We know of at least 3 cars that have bested Senna elsewhere. Huayra BC Roadster, SF90 Stradale with AF and 296 GTB with AF. Take for example Autocar's dry handling circuit, which I believe is even shorter, downforce heavy and tighter than VIR?

T50: Am I a joke to you?
Yes, completely forgot about it and T33.

Yes, these 3 cars you mention should be similar to Senna around a track, they have been faster in some circuits and slower in others. Then we have AMG One which should beat all these, and then the Valkyrie which should be the fastest of them all. How fast the 2000 ps Lotus Evija is around a track I am uncertain, it should be very fast with the right tyres.

but the game has moved on
That's the thing... I'm not sure it has. Bespoke Cup 2 Rs have gotten grippier and the hybrids have more punch out of corner exits, but they mostly excel at a certain type of track.

My initial concern was only about VIR's Grand Course, because it's a hugely complex, long layout with all kinds of corners, high speed kinks, directional and elevation and surface changes (on top of also having those long straights). Autocar's handling course at MIRA is child's play in comparison and seems to favor big horsepower more than anything. I feel like the layout's name is a bit misleading.

The Spa lap record debate is apples and oranges.
It's comparing the only clean flying lap in a customer's car on the same set of tires the Senna came with vs a balls out factory effort with multiple laps, setup changes and a Pirelli truck full of black round things.
It's keeping two wheels inside the white line vs taking liberties with track limits.
It's 280 kph vs 300 kph trap speeds between cars with nearly the same power to weight ratio.
If you really think Huayra BC Roadster, given a fair comparison, would genuinely be faster than Senna (which has double the maximum downforce), I have a bridge to sell you.
