Who?

Audiholic? I actually agree with him.

We will have to wait until 6 of March to see the final product. And my hopes are high.

I'm refering to the remarks DaSilva made about the A5 being the best design he's made, or something like that?:eusa_doh:

The A5 better not look like that...I say it should be as close to the Nuvolari as possible. That chop of the blue A5 looks horrible. I'm not saying that it's a bad design but it isn't anything new or fresh. It looks so bland and is easily upstaged by even the G35 coupe...I'm not even going to compare that chop to the 3er.

where is iceman.... we need more explanation!! to be honest, i am not too impressed if this is the real deal.

not to sound cocky or anything
knowing audi this is exactly what i was expecting, or something along its lines

It looks nice but its so Audish. Personally I would like to see a more "brave" design.
BTW when we see the A5 we might get the idea on how next A4 going to look like.

I agree with above.

In my opinion, Audi currently has the best looking range of cars.

There is NOT a single model which I find ugly. From the A3 to the R8, even the A4 is understatedly handsome, the A8 looks sublime, the Q7 is the best looking SUV on sale today and the A6 Avant is by far the best looking Estate ever made IMO.

Walter D'Silva is a genius!

In term of looks, Audi, however, is only beaten in my personal Top 10 list by Maserati, Ferrari, Aston Martin and Lamborghini.

I can see Audi having similar problem in the future like BMW had in the 90s.

In the 90s BMWs were refined, elegant, understated, with clean & smooth design, yet they all look the same. Initially everybody like the cars but with time the design become boring. Also customers started to acknowledge that. OK - sameness & cohesiveness is needed for better brand recognition & image but at some point the design has to move on - with emphasis on differentiation between model lines.

And same can happen to Audi very soon - people / customers will start to be sick & tired be the eternal sameness of design. So ... Audi people are smart so they will definitely take a fresh approach & start to differentiate the model lines. And here the problem starts. What to do next? Eg. BMW top officials were deciding about going retro, evolutionary, revolutionary (completely ditching traditional BMW design trademarks), or avantgarde. They decided for avantgarde - for the design we know today.

Audi can go evolutionary. But for how long?
Retro? Retro designs age quickly - except iconic cars (eg MINI, 911, etc).
Revolutionary? Perhaps, but it's risky.
Avantgarde? Perhaps, but it's also risky.

The problem is that when you have "perfect" designs it is very hard to produce new one which is even more beautiful & "perfect". Question: how more clean & simple can Audi be? Answer: it can't be. Look at the A5: there are some signs of "new era": eg. wavy shoulder line. Which by definition is not a clean & simple design.

My guess is that people who love "clean & simple by Audi" so much will be disappointed sooner or later since Audi will go more exciting & less clean & simple. Maybe not with a big jump like BMW did, but with slow but persistent steps.

And this will be a truly important step for Audi. I'm all excited already. :eusa_danc

Eni has absolutely nailed it...Audi's predicament is the evolution of a design dna that has been refined to the point of predictability-
It is time for them to break the mold...at least on one model...so as to move the aesthetic forward
in a direction that may offer up a wider range of perceptions as to what constitutes "Audi-ness".

Audi

Audi AG is a German automotive manufacturer of luxury vehicles headquartered in Ingolstadt, Bavaria, Germany. A subsidiary of the Volkswagen Group, the company’s origins date back to the early 20th century and the initial enterprises (Horch and the Audiwerke) founded by engineer August Horch (1868–1951). Two other manufacturers (DKW and Wanderer) also contributed to the foundation of Auto Union in 1932. The modern Audi era began in the 1960s, when Volkswagen acquired Auto Union from Daimler-Benz, and merged it with NSU Motorenwerke in 1969.
