Good grief what a horrible car. This crossover trend has gotten out of control and has to stop. Right f#cking now. I mean, what next? An Audi QTT? QR8? Oh shit... I better stop now otherwise they might think these are good ideas and put them into production.

Audi considering a 300+ PS SQ2, RS Q2 on the cards

Despite the new Q2 will going on sale before fall, the SUV boom has had Audi officials looking into the possibility of adding a hotter version.
An "S" variant is, by the company's own admission, feasible and is very likely to be launched at some point in the near future.

"It is something we're looking at. It would be relatively easy to do with MQB. The Q2 shares a lot with the A3, but we have to see what appetite there is for the more expensive Q2 models first", Board Member for Technical Development, Stephan Knirsch, told AutoExpress.

The 2.0-liter turbo four of the facelifted S3 is rated at 310 HP, which is more than enough for the baby crossover.

Nevertheless, there is talk about an even hotter variant of the Q2, which will carry the RS logo. This isn’t the first time when such a model is brought into discussion, instead of the S3's engine, as previously reported, it could use the 2.5-liter five-cylinder of the RS3.

If everything goes as planned and the two beefed-up versions of the Q2 will get the thumbs up for production, then expect the SQ2 to debut around 2018, eventually followed by the more powerful RS Q2.

2017 Audi SQ2 Drops Hot Laps on the Nurburgring

Earlier this month, a higher-up at Audi declared that the automaker is considering whether to make a hot version of the Q2 or not. The confirmation that the SQ2 is in the pipeline arrived moments ago, courtesy of our team of spy photographers.

The smallest crossover SUV from Audi looks great as is, but things get better in SQ2 form. Ignore the halogen headlights of the pre-production prototype featured in the gallery below and concentrate on the most important things: the black-painted front grille and door mirror caps, bigger air intakes, bigger wheels, bigger brake rotors, aggressive rear diffuser, quad tailpipes, almost everything oozes performance.

Although this Audi SQ2 prototype is completely free of camouflage, not much is known about what hides under the hood. The rumor mill suggests that a 2.0-liter TFSI will fill the engine bay, as in the unit that motivates the 2017 Audi S3. In the compact hatchback, the four-cylinder turbocharged powerplant develops 310 PS (306 horsepower) and 400 Nm (295 lb-ft) of torque in the S-Tronic version. Considering that the S3 S-Tronic can hit 100 km/h (62 mph) in 4.5 seconds, the 2017 Audi SQ2 holds great potential.

To put all that power down to the ground, the go-faster version of the Audi Q2 will come as standard with quattro all-wheel-drive and a specific calibration for the Electronic Stabilization Control (ESC) system. A performance package is expected to add magnetic-ride adjustable suspension. Compared to regular dampers, the magnetorheological units actively change their damping abilities to compensate for dive, squat, roll, and pitch. Better still, they’re extremely forgiving in day-to-day driving conditions.

As for the cabin design, this hot meatball will be available with Audi virtual cockpit, the fancy way of saying that the instrument cluster is a 12.3-inch screen. Other technological highlights include a head-up display, Wi-Fi hotspot feature, sat nav with Google Earth, as well as Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity.

2017 Audi Q2 price starts from £20,230 in the United Kingdom

Now available to order in the (not-so-)United Kingdom, the Audi Q2 can be yours from £20,230. Customers who place an order when Audi opens the order books in August will get delivery in November.

Four engine options will be available at first. The range starts with a 1.0-liter TFSI turbocharged three-banger that produces 115 PS (113 bhp). This mill can be matched only with the six-speed manual transmission. If you move on up to the 1.4-liter TFSI, the Audi Q2 will entertain you with 150 PS (148 bhp) and an available 7-speed S tronic automatic transmission. On the oil-chugging end of the spectrum, British customers can choose between the 1.6-liter TDI and 2.0-liter TDI.

Regarding pricing, the cheapest 2017 Audi Q2 starts in the United Kingdom from £20,230. The cheapest diesel-powered model will set you back at least £22,480, while the range-topping Q2 2.0 TDI quattro starts from £30,610. Let that sum sink in for a moment. Thirty. Thousand. Six. Hundred. And. Ten. Frigging. Pounds! I don’t mean to be Capt. Obvious, but £390 more will buy you the Ford Focus RS Mk3.

If, however, the Q2 is higher on your priorities list, then I’m much obliged to tell you that British customers can get it in three specifications levels. The SE comes as standard with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, Bluetooth connectivity, heated and electrically adjustable mirror, etcetera. The mid-range Sport trim level boasts 17-inch wheels, cruise control, sports seats, light and rain sensors, sat nav, and a lot more.

The range-topping Audi Q2 S line adds a few welcomed goodies, including styling enhancements such as 18-inch alloy wheels, LED headlamps and taillights, dynamic sweeping rear indicators, LED interior lighting, and cloth/leather upholstery on with S embossing, just to name a few. The closest rivals of the newest entry in the premium compact SUV segment are the Mercedes-Benz GLA (£25,260) and MINI Countryman (£17,125).

Audi Q2 production commences in Ingolstadt

Having made its world premiere at the 2016 Geneva Motor Show in March, the all-new Q2has started rolling off the production line.

The Q2 is manufactured at Audi's main plant, in Ingolstadt. To increase total capacity, a fully automatic module store for the drivetrain was installed on the assembly line, which will put together approximately 450 units daily.

"The start of series production of a new model is always a great challenge and something special for a plant and its employees. We are proud to be building the Audi Q2 - the Q-family entry model - here in Ingolstadt for the world market", commented the plant's director, Albert Mayer.

Audi will soon begin taking orders for the Q2, which benefits from modern connectivity technology, infotainment and assistance systems. At the time of its launch, it will be available with a choice of six different engines - three TFSI petrol units and three TDI diesels, producing between 116 HP and 190 HP.

The brand's largest production location and Europe's second-largest car plant, the Ingolstadt facility is responsible for assembling more than 500,000 vehicles annually, with a new Audi being completed every 30 seconds.

Honestly the car doesn't look bad in person. Exploring it extensively in Geneva I found it to be the choice of the segment by a mile. (Maybe until the Mini gets the new model).

Audi

Audi AG is a German automotive manufacturer of luxury vehicles headquartered in Ingolstadt, Bavaria, Germany. A subsidiary of the Volkswagen Group, the company’s origins date back to the early 20th century and the initial enterprises (Horch and the Audiwerke) founded by engineer August Horch (1868–1951). Two other manufacturers (DKW and Wanderer) also contributed to the foundation of Auto Union in 1932. The modern Audi era began in the 1960s, when Volkswagen acquired Auto Union from Daimler-Benz, and merged it with NSU Motorenwerke in 1969.
