Yeah it is the changing a lot from the current one. Guess they've got to make room for the GLA. I really want to see Mercedes succeed with all these new models, but they've got to get the look right. People expect that from a Mercedes along with the quality, safety, durability, reliability etc etc. The stance does look great. I guess this will be based on the next C-Class so the interior should be different also.

Ooooh that does look good. I can see the AMG version now.

Mercedes' first stab at the compact luxury SUV market with the GLK, which was presented in 2008, having undergone a mid-life facelift just last year, has been deemed a success, and the German are preparing its successor, which will likely be introduced in 2015 as a 2016MY.
Our secret-car hunter scooped up the first photos of a prototype model for the second generation GLK while testing on European soil. There's a lot going on the body with the camouflage, but it looks like the new GLK will be slightly bigger and have a less boxy appearance and softer lines than the current model.
Under the freshly styled body panels, Stuttgart's Audi Q5 and BMW X3 challenger rides on a modified version of the next C-Class sedan's new MRA (modular rear-wheel drive architecture) platform. Understandably, the new GLK and C-Class will share a similar engine lineup comprised of four- and six-cylinder diesel and gasoline units, and possibly a hybrid powerplant as well.
The use of lighter materials, improved aerodynamics and tweaked powertrains will do their part to make the next GLK more fuel efficient and greener.

@martinbo

First I say sorry. But I thought in some cases it would be better to post links only because the texts behind would been to long to copy it in this forum and that would be not in your sense. Some of my posts were edited. I´m hoping they are now more in your sense.

Like the current GLK it looks chopped off in back. Never understood why they made the GLK shorter than the C-class that underpins it. The "U" in SUV actually is important, and cargo space is a factor in this segment. It needs more overhang in the rear to provide the usuable cargo area.
I'm liking the shape more than the earlier spy photos. You can see more of the actual sculpting here.

The GLK is only ~2in. shorter. That's negligible in my opinion, and may have been a design consideration for a slightly better approach/departure angle. Hopefully back seat space is more in line with competitors now.

Inches in a car is like square feet in a house. 2.4 inches is actually a huge difference. What you fail to consider is the 3D (volume) impact. When you span that across the rear of the vehicle and consider the height and depth you are talking about a significant amount of cargo volume. Take two feet out of the width of a room and tell me it's negligible. Two feet in a 10x10 room that is 7' tall equates to 140 cubic feet of volume. Look at any SUV brochure and you will see stats for cargo capacity listed in volume.

I could live with that and a knock out interior w/out the stick on screen and it will be a it. Oh and make it with an I6. That design would make life hard for the ML though.

M

Yeah that is more manly looking and reminds you of that G Force concept a little.

That would be awesome if it looked like that. Now I wonder if the GLK is going to get airmatic like the C-class.

If it is Autozeitung I don´t trust the car will look like that. They are always off when it comes to renders.

I would bet it will. Mercedes is pushing all the C-Class based vehicles upmarket it seems. The GLK is going to force the ML to move up and the then the GL will have too. I just hope all this expansion and breakneck pace of introductions doesn't erode Mercedes hard regained reputation for quality/reliability.

The GLK and E-Class should be the next MBs to move upmarket. Two cars that, frankly, need it so much. The E-Class has been behind the 5er and A6 since they came out. Some proper C-Coupe and E-Coupe to fight the 4er/A5 and the 6er should be fantastic as well.
