GLC [Spyshots] Spy Photos 2015 Mercedes-Benz GLC (AKA GLK)

The Mercedes-Benz GLC is a compact luxury crossover SUV introduced in 2015 for the 2016 model year that replaced the GLK-Class. According to Mercedes-Benz, it is the SUV equivalent to the C-Class.
I took the liberty to compile a collage of GLC renderings from car mags over the past 2 years or so. It's so blatantly obvious that most of the graphic designers - even of the most renowned publications - have very little clue of how the final product will look like. Even worse, some seemed to just have taken existing photos of an ML, B or C-Wagon and tried to distort the proportions to make it look like a compact SUV - with funny results...

Going forward, I guess we just ought to be more patient and not read too much into renderings :)

Hmmmm, I like it but I don´t love it. It really looks like a C-Class wagon. Which looks very good, but a SUV should look different.

I think it will look like a more handsome C-Class Estate. The design is predictable but the shape of the car will no doubt wear it very well. The C-Class Estate is not for sale in the US but the GLC will play its role.

This GLC is going to give Mercedes what is essentially a brand new entry in one of the hottest market segments, compact SUVs. This thing needs to be a hit. The current GLK just sold ok in the U.S. This needs to do a lot better. It likely will but at what price to the older/aged GLE? The C has taken a bit out of the E-Class here in the U.S. I expect the GLC to do the same to the GLE.

The GLK isn't even sold in the UK which I think was a massive mistake on Mercedes part. They must be kicking a door thinking about money lost to the Q5, X3 and Evoque.

Yup the lack of RHD was one of the stupidest engineering shortcomings of the GLK.

Mercedes have done an amazing job going down-market and appealing to younger buyers, but have been terribly slow at capitalizing on the exploding demand for small SUVs.

It's looking very attractive now all the cladding and disguise is almost off, can't wait till the official launch.

This is indeed the biggest short coming of the GLK - MB did not manage to produce a RHD version (because of packaging issues of the differential), and thus missed out on major market potential. I'm sure the GLC will make up for that. Only curious whether they will continue to produce the GLC also in Bremen only or also in overseas plants...

^ Probably in Bremen and Beijing like the predecessor. Suspect Vance may not have any free capacity at present. :)
