The vents are just there as a visual anchor for the interior. Once we see the whole cabin, the vents will mellow out.

Not a chance. They will always stand out.m

Definitely not a good thing. And round vents on such a big German sedan are still extremely awkward. I am not going to like it, already know this.

The SLS and SLK both have round vents around the cabin, so it's a feature that we should be accustomed with by now. They are a good feature in the SLK and SLK and I can't see why four vents in the S-Class can't be gorgeous.

Agreed. Also the 164 GL. (y)

The round air vents are surely giving the interior designers major headaches in trying to maximize the size of the LCD screen for the COMAND system. They just cannot match the size of the LCD screens found in the new BMWs and AUDIs.

I serious believe Mercedes needs a new direction in interior design. The quality of materials used may be excellent, but the aesthetic design is mediocre at best. The dashboard of the W222 reminds me of that of an organ found in a cathedral. Just too old school for me.

I'd hate to hear what you think of a Mulsanne or Phantom interior....

Cars of this nature and stature need to show off their Classic and prestigiously old-world ties with elegant "old school" inspired interiors. They need to be warm, graceful, mature and age gracefully. It's a very big novelty to be able to flex your muscles in respect to being a brand with a rich history of Classics, which is something that Hyundai, Toyota, Lexus, Kia, etc. could never do, no matter how many times they start releasing more attempted Luxury-Cars. Letting this go would be a big mistake for M-B and pretty much give away their most powerful card. At the same time, that 2-spoke steering wheel looks purely geriatric and horribly functional, like a step back to the 50's (notice I didn't say a "throwback" which implies cool-factor) and I don't know what they'd be thinking with it. Maybe it's to fool us all.

Doing it RIGHT is a whole other thing altogether, however. It's just be upsetting to witness M-B's current desperation to look "tech" and "cool" yet still stick to their tried and true "Classic inspirations" clash and look forced like it has with some other cars designs. However, I think for the most part M-B is doing well with their interiors, especially in comparison to their exteriors.

Hahahahaha, in the new S Class, Mercedes designers have tackled the problem by putting in place four smaller diameter eyeball air vents to the lower part of the dashboard because of the large LCD screens at the top of the dashboard. It is not an ideal solution because having the cold air blown at your face at an angle from below is somewhat disconcerting to some.

The Bentley Mulsanne sacrificed some ergonomics by placing the LCD screen below the two large eyeball air vents. It is not an ideal location for a screen because the driver will have to take his/her eyes off the road for too long to look at the LCD screen.

And still people here wonder why Mercedes have pushed back the intro of the new S-class and prioritised the development of small and hybrid cars:

Which probably helps to explain what Mercedes factory workers and marque enthusiasts on the ground are actually seeing:

Still nice IMO they are to get a new key design. By the way, the steering wheel has three spokes, not two.

Ah, finally a new Key. I don't like the old one. I much prefer the new Audi style key that you just push in to start. Though, square turn peg would also be cool. Anyway, it's just a key.

Any chance the S63 or S600 will be offered with 4matic? Since the GL63 will be with 4matic, the S63 could have that as an option too. I live in the North East and 4matic is a must for me.

There were hints at a recent Mercedes document discussing the future of the vehicle line that AWD (not necessarily the 4matic) was being developed by AMG for the A-based 4dr coupe and that its applications were now being considered on the firm's larger and more powerful offerings (given their feasibility on GL, M and G AMG lines).

^ Yes. Some quotes. ;)

Even more future AMG models with all-wheel drive
All-wheel drive is set to play a bigger role at Mercedes-AMG in the future too – being offered not just for SUVs and off-road vehicles, but also for other AMG high-performance vehicles. Mercedes-AMG currently has four all-wheel-drive models in its range: the ML 63 AMG, the G 63 AMG, the G 65 AMG and the GL 63 AMG. To mark the start of the new era, in 2013 the new A 45 AMG will be launched with a performance-oriented all-wheel drive system as standard.
http://www.germancarforum.com/commu...brate-45-year-anniversary-tease-future.44764/

Mercedes-AMG deploys a specially designed transfer case for the 4MATIC permanent all-wheel drive, which distributes the drive power to the front and rear axle at a ratio of 40:60 in the interests of dynamic handling. As if that were not enough, the AMG RIDE CONTROL sports suspension with AIRMATIC package – consisting of air suspension, special damper struts, automatic level control and Adaptive Damping System (ADS) – is combined with the ACTIVE CURVE SYSTEM for active roll stabilisation. This system, which comes as standard and is specific to AMG, employs active anti-roll bars on the front and rear axles to reduce the body's roll angle during cornering. Apart from enhanced agility and driving pleasure, the ACTIVE CURVE SYSTEM has the additional effect of increasing handling stability and therefore safety, particularly at higher speeds.
