Personally for me, I'd like to think I don't like a particular brand just because they're number one, or have sold the most cars. Actually makes it sound rather common, not exactly prestigious.

Couldn't agree more, Luke. That's one of the reasons I don't like Audi. For me, it's just another, Rather expensive, Volkswagen. Personally, I'd be very happy if Mercedes is getting a bit more special, because they're selling less cars.

Totally agreed. In a perfect world, M-B could go back to not being so "mass", so it could uphold that ultimate "Halo Brand" cachet factor it used to truly have, WHILE still being viable enough to have funds to push out the best products and not be bought out.

Dr. Z's gotta do what he's gotta do, but c'mon man, AT LEAST MAKE IT SEEM LIKE YOU ONLY CARE ABOUT THE QUALITY AND POWER OF THE BRAND! Telling people that he "plans to be #1" admits that M-B is not #1, it shows that he only cares about mass sales in terms of determining M-B's status, not the actual status that the forefathers of the brand worked so hard to build.

EXUDE PASSION to the public, and not in a bean-counter accountants type of way.

While not wanting to appear totally dismissive with regard to Mercedes-Benz' effort, I dare speculate that in terms of unit sales, the W222 S-Class will come under heavy fire by its' rivals from Bavaria in 3-4 years. Despite M-Bs' recently very strong sales performance in the U.S., Dr. Zetsches' vision of recapturing the No. 1 spot on the premium brand totem pole appear illusory. Especially the VW-Groups multi-pronged assault on the luxury market segment with its' upcoming MSB-based offerings will be the source of major headaches for M-B.

In terms of the W222, I beg to differ. The A8, Panamera, and Bentley Continental models already exist in the S-class's competitive market and the current-gen S-class is faring fine. It's not like there's new models appearing in the horizon, just new generations of existing models I think it will continue to do so as the S-class line expands. The fact those three will be sharing a common-platform isn't too daunting- just sounds like VW-group will be saving tons of money.

Mercedes will certainly need to leverage the MRA architecture in its other cars to stay competitive though.

Is there a picture of a cornering S-Class with one wheel off the ground? I remember one such shot but haven't been able to locate it.

look good if that is the deal....notice that even the new bentley camo the line is dropping also, this should not be a big deal!

I am still confident that the W222 will look like this:

Comparing it to this:

The rear line in keyonte's pic looks too detached imho...

That really isn't goign to be it, looking at the white car above. My god I would love to have been around to rip off that covering. That is a finished car right there! Sigh...

It looks pretty good there, though the dropping line is a huge eyesore at that rear angle.

Also, the front looks cool, but the headlight-to-grille relationship looks so unresolved (a common trend from M-B these days, it seems).... like I just cringe and want to melt them in order to be allowed to smoothen them up to coexist with each other better. However, the overall character is nice.

Also, you can see how closely this car will look to the W205, if that above render is true. The greenhouse and side profile and dropping line, etc. all look like the W205 renders heavily. Not to mention, the W205 renders show the same kind of rear end as the W222.
