Agreed. We might see those with the W222 update, and perhaps also the next headlights. :)

they should've based the rear of E class of the S class coupe's design, as its the swankiest Benz on the road right now and the long rectangular taillights would have been a nice update to the W212. but instead when i see on on the road next year i'll have to make three guesses whether its a E, C or S class before i'm able to read the badge on the back.

For me, that would dilute the specialness of the S-coupe as the E-class is one of Mercedes' highest selling vehicles where I am.

MB is testing these Highrange Highbeam Adaptive LED headlights at present, and they are said to premiere in the near future. :)

Normal Mercedes LED headlights reach to the legal limit in the USA of 400 m (S-Class) or 485 m for the CLS Multibeam LEDs. Laser headlights reach to the Euro range limit of 650 m, but one could also use normal H7 halogens, Xenons or LEDs instead which would have a similar range, according to MB developers cited by MB Passion. MB prefers a wider beam instead, and uses Multibeam Adaptive LED technology for their Highrange Highbeam, with three chambers. The beam is significantly wider, and thus able to throw more light onto the road. Of course, this is only possible due to MB's Multibeam Adaptive LED technology, using 24 elements at present, 84 soon and up to 1024 in the future.

I know thats how i feel about the S class which had a special design until the W205 came out, but hell its not a bad design so i'm complaining entirely.

The 2016 / 2017 Mercedes E-Class has been spotted on the Nürburgring.

Expected to be introduced early next year, the redesigned sedan eschews the angular styling of the current model and adopts a more curvaceous design that closely echoes the C- and S-Class. The styling similarities won't please everyone but the model will undoubtedly be attractive judging by its brethren.

Mercedes hasn't had much to say about the next-generation E-Class but it is expected to ride on the MRA platform and weigh 70 - 150 kg (154 - 330 lbs) less than its predecessor.

Engine options also remain unconfirmed but choices are rumored to include a 1.6-liter four-cylinder diesel with 122 bhp (91 kW) and a twin-turbo 2.9-liter inline six-cylinder diesel with 313 bhp (233 kW). We can also expect an assortment of other six- and eight-cylinder engines including a few that will likely be familiar.

Judging by the picture, I'm wondering if the production car will get metal window trim.

Perhaps this is just part of the test car.
