I would have to agree on that.

The design theme is the same, but W124 is smaller, more compact (relative to the W140), which IMHO makes it look better.

As far as the S Classes go... After W126, my favorite is W221. Even after 10 years since it was launched on the market, it looks amazing to me. Elegant and teutonic.

It had alot of potential but it's size and height as well as awkward back light design spoiled the car. The W220 is so elegant and I also like the W221 and new W222. I agree with all of you, but I also think this new E class will be the first one to look better. Not because the W222 is ugly, very far from that, but I just think the W213 will be even better looking.

All-New 2017 Mercedes-Benz E63 AMG Comes Out To Play

Our spies snagged the very first shots of the next-generation Mercedes-Benz E63 AMG, the crown jewel of theW213 codenamed E-Class series.
this E-Class tester, starting from the single-bar grille and the muscular front bumper with the large air vents.

Then there's the hunkered down stance and the big alloy wheels shod in some seriously fat rubber through which we see the gigantic brake discs. And if you're still not convinced, just take a look at the four-pipe exhausts residing on the corners of the rear diffuser.

Unless Mercedes-AMG pulls a different rabbit out of its hat, the E63 AMG should get a variation of the sub-brand's new 4.0-liter twin-turbocharged V8 in two states of tune pushing up to 600 horses, paired to a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission and the option of all-wheel drive, which may once again be standard in the USA.

And just like the regular models of the W213 E-Series, the E63 AMG will also benefit from the increased use of aluminum and high-strength steel to lose some weight over the current car, further improving handling, performance and economy.

We except to see the AMG-flavored version within a year after the presentation of the standard E-Class in the first half of 2016.

WOW, those pics gave me goose bumps.....I can't wait. Damn it looks good. Perfect proportions and aggressive, but still E-Class elegance. This E will likely replace my Lexus.

The bonnet has a different shape than the one used in non-AMG W213 (above headlights). And what is that thing behind the grille? Looks a bit like GT3's grille

^ Very good question, was the first thing that came to my mind. The hood line could be a decoy but it looks convincing.
I like the AMG version if it's real. I mean, if you're going to do the hood shutline visible like this you can go all the way and disconnect it even from the headlights, that makes it look special again.

Still, it looks fantastic already as an AMG. Truly beautiful.

Wow the AMG version looks really fantastic. I like the wheel arches they look like they flared a little and the car seems to have a more aggressive stance and look even than the C63. I wonder if those vertical slats behind the grill could be for active aero such as closing the grill off at higher speeds for reducing drag?

To blend C and S styling cues

We have received a fresh batch of spy photos depicting Mercedes-Benz's upcoming E-Class (W213).

The latest images confirm yet again the company's intentions of blending styling cues from the C and S to create the new mid-size sedan which will be unveiled as early as January next year at NAIAS. It will borrow the MRA platform from the C-Class which should provide a massive weight loss of up to 150 kg (330 lbs) despite the slightly larger proportions necessary to distance the model from the C which also had to grow in size now that Mercedes-Benz has the CLA acting as their entry-level sedan.

As far as the engines are concerned, latest gossip indicates the diesel range will kick off with a new 1.6-liter rated at 122 bhp (91 kW) while beefier versions are expected to use a straight-six twin-turbodiesel 2.9-liter developing 313 bhp (233 kW). We also heard a quad turbo version of the same engine is in the works with two of the turbochargers being electrically driven and enabling a total output of more than 400 bhp (298 kW).

The new E-Class could be Mercedes-Benz's first production model to incorporate a semi-autonomous driving system as Daimler chairman Dieter Zetsche recently said the technology is imminent although it would make more sense to debut on the S-Class.

I was instantly reminded of the S Class Coupe hoodline. Too bad it will be reserved for the AMG only.
