I don't think so. Please keep in mind, there's still alot of camouflage wrapped around the rear window. Is the w213 narrow than w212?Especially rear window. This is very bad.
Btw. does somebody share my opinion that W212 reminds of W124?
I wish the new E-Class will give a hint of upcoming MB design language and not too similar to S-Class or C-Class.
The pre face-lifted W212 did somewhat.
It had that angular theme about it that was present in the W124. After the face/life the W212 went all fish eyed, so the tie with the W124 was broken imo, at least on the front end.
That has never been the case with the E.
The design language of all the latest Mercs came from the 2009-10 CLS.
The anti-wedge profile and dropping line are featured on just about every MB model since.
I can only imagine the next generation CLS will feature MBs new language.
Carmaker1: It is a bridge gap between old and new MB design, not the trendsetter. It very much shows in it as well. The C218 might become a CLE based on the W213 and perhaps an S-Class related 4-door will bear that name.
I would give anything for Mercedes to get back to an E like the W124. That will never happen though, but there is nothing wrong with wishing.

Yeah it's amazing how low and narrow the W124 is compared to new cars. Actually it's still longer than the latest C-class (4740mm instead of 4686mm for W205) but much narrower (1740mm compared to 1810mm) and has a shorter wheelbase (2800mm compared to 2840mm). It had perfect proportions and is a timeless design, still looking relatively modern after been launched over 30 years ago. The thing I remember most about that ace was its incredible build quality and how heavy the doors were and the amazing thud they made when a person closed them.W124 must be almost CLA size these days....
