E-Class (W213) [Spyshots] 2016 Mercedes-Benz E-Class (W213)

The W213 Mercedes-Benz E-Class is the fifth generation of the Mercedes-Benz E-Class, sold from 2016 as a 2017 model. It succeeded the W212/S212 E-Class models. The coupe/convertible models share the same platform as the sedan/wagon, in contrast to the previous generation. The high-performance Mercedes-AMG E63 and E63S versions of the W213 have been available as well from 2016 (as a 2017 model), and these are the only versions with V8 engines.

What is the cost comparison between LED and Laser? Surely the laser lights must cost considerably more.

May also depend on which LED version. At present MB uses 1x24 LEDS, starting in 2016 3x28=84 LED pixels and 16x128=1024 pixels after that, to further enhance precision and brilliance. :)

MB Passion

Ok, I don't want to waste my keyboard on ignorant fanboy.

Pathetic and uncalled for.
I was just wondering why MB doesn't seem too fond of Laser light. Because the big German brands usually mimick eachother's every move, and the two other big brands already feature Laser tech.

But it appears MB is already testing W222 with Laser tech, @Wolfgang?

^ Yes, see this post, Klier. Not sure yet if the laser system can also use the Konrad Zuse patent, which may be more suitable for an LED matrix, which may also have higher brilliance. :)

''Mercedes-Benz is testing in an S Class Advanced LED main beam and the first laser beam, which we could learn for the first time at night yesterday. In short, the experience in advance: the LEDs do much more in beam, as the selective laser main beam (which is by no means safe, ..) - Details coming soon with us''

And finally to demonstrate the precision of a 1024 pix LED headlight, a projected star.

Very impressive. Unlike Xenon, there appear to be completely different levels of sophistication with LED and it tech.

I haven't got a clue what future will bring. What I do know is that current state of the art is static Laser light.

Dynamic laser light is already in development for BMW. Too bad we don't have an @Wolfgang for Bimmers and I can't link to to cool pictures and info :(

But I absolutely don't want to steer this into BMW vs MB, I am genuinely exited for the new E class and like many here can't wait to see/read more of it.

I am also excited for the launch of this new E-Class, in fact I would go on saying that out of all the cars to be launched in the next 6 to 9 months I would say this E-class and also the new BMW 7 series are the cars I am most excited about. This E-class will herald a new era for Mercedes Benz for their mid size sedan evolution and no doubt will be the most luxuries, most comfortable, most high tech and possibly one of the best looking. The most exciting thing about this car is it will introduce brand new straight six engines and be the first Mercedes since 1997-8 to once again have this glorious engine layout.

The car will premiere in September?
And first sales will probably be March 2016?
Will the hybrid be available from start or 1 year later?

I think the car will premiere in January 2016. September is reserved for C Class Coupe/Convertible and GLC.

Mercedes-Fans.de posted some comparsions from their recent testing. The Active Multibeam LED headlights beam slightly further, to 485 m, than the headlights in the S-Class, which reach to the legal limit in the USA of 400 meters, and the beam is also slightly wider. They also tested the new headlights with enhanced LED high beam. It beams significantly further to the European legal limit of 650 meters, and the beam also appears wider than a comparable laser based highbeam. MB Passion is also preparing an article at present, I believe, as they also recently tested the new lights at night. :)

U spy new Mercedes-Benz E-Class in Prague

You can now add the Czech Republic to the list of places we've encountered prototypes of Mercedes-Benz's next generation E-Class sedan. Sharp-eyed reader Kirill was able to take a few shots of the camouflaged tester.

Codenamed W213, the comprehensively revised fifth-generation of Mercedes' executive sedan will arrive in mid-2016 followed by an Estate version about a year later.
While the prototype looks like it might be marginally bigger than the current W212, it will end up being lighter, thanks in part to Mercedes' new scalable rear-wheel drive MRA platform shared with the latest C-Class and S-Class.

Another thing the E-Class will share with these two models is their more slender exterior design language with curvier surfaces on the body, while the S-Class will also lend its dashboard layout with a large screen positioned above the prominent center console as an extension of the instrument panel.

It is understood that the W213 will debut Mercedes' first inline-six diesel and gasoline engines in more than two decades, not out of nostalgia, but out of necessity, as Stuttgart will follow BMW's example of using a modular engine family comprising of three-, four- and six-cylinder units with a common 0.5-liter displacement for each cylinder. Plug-in hybrid versions of these engines will join the range, as will AMG's 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 found in the AMG GT coupe and C63 AMG developing close to 600hp.

I was hoping they had done something more imaginative with the realights, making them more horizontal. They look too similar to the C-Class ones. Which look similar to the S-Class ones as well.

Not the most itelligent thing to do IMO...
